Report Filed: A&J Home Contracting, LLC Joe Janas DO NOT USE THIS CONTRACTOR!!!! Toms River, New Jersey!!
I guess my story is very similar to so many that I have read on A & J Home Contracting , LLC. and Mr. Joe Janas. A simple internet search will demonstrate the character and lack of integrity that this company possesses. On May 3, 2010 we signed into contract with A&J Home Contracting who was being represented by Mr. Joe Janas and his assistant Mary. Mr. Janas, on several occasions, referred to himself as the owner of the business. A&J was recommended by Service Magic, who we have used before to get referrals on contractors. On this date we contracted this company to remodel our Master Bath, Install hard wood floors in our Master Bedroom, hallway and staircase. The installation of a new front door and the remodeling of our laundry room. Mr Janas was given a deposit of $15,000.00 on this same day and agreed to a start date of 05/10/2010. We started to get a bad feeling when the work did not start until 06/22/10 and scheduled appointments were never met. Despite not even starting the job, Mr Janas claimed that he had already ordered all of the fixtures and finishes and had paid Fergusons with his personal credit card. He said that he needed an addition $3350.00 due to the allocations for these items having been exceeded. On May 25th, Mr Janas was paid an additional $3350.00. Other than the minimal work of gutting the bathroom and sheetrocking (which by the way will need to be redone) and a small section of tile(already needs repair), no other work was performed. He was a consistent no show on scheduled days and full of every excuse in the book. After several weeks of us asking Mr. Janas when our Tile, Fixtures, Finishes, Jacuzzi and other items would be delivered, and being given a different story every time, we decided to call the suppliers only to find that A&J Home Contracting had never placed or payed for the items that he told us he charged on his credit card and had already picked up. The job was immediately stopped and a refund was requested. As of September 14, 2010 we have not seen a penny refunded to us by this company. Funny that when you call his office, his attorney will come to the phone. From the research that we have done, it looks like Joe is not even the owner of this company. Some say that it is under his wife’s name. We are in the process of confirming who the real owner really is. However, Joe Janas has also operated under, Father and Sons Handyman, which have negative reports throughout the internet. We were mislead and consistently lied to. Please do your homework on this company!!! I wish we had!!!
