I live in an Augustine Managed Community in Stafford. The HOA guidelines are an uninforced joke. They HOA plays favorites, is inconsistant in their rulings and enforcement and completely unpredictable. Blackwood Management used to manage the HOA admin but they have been repplaced by SCS and Associa company. I thankfully did not purchase an Augustine Home but I unfortunitely purchased a home in one of their communities and therefor fall under this corrupt HOA. A casual drive through the community will reveal countless fences and decks that are not in accordance with the guidelines. I had a side door installed in my home with the intent of adding stairs and a small landing which would be enclosed by my fence. This is a common configuration in Hills at Aquia and other Augustine developments. I submitted my request per the guidelines for a four foot fence per the guidelines and made of materials per the guidelines and consistant with the rest of the neighborhood. My request was denied, no reason given. You can not talk to anyone. The management company simply says there is nothing they can do because Augustine is the HOA and they pick and choose at some random rate what gets approved and what does not. Meanwhile, we have no lights, broken playground equipment, no mulch in common areas and its difficult at best to get a response from anyone and the response is always thre is nothing we can do. I have met no one who has anything good ot say about the HOA or how Augustine runs it. Its hit ot miss or pure chance if your request will be approved or not. They impinge on your ability to enjoy your home and the restrictions are rediculous. I would recommend steering clear of Augustine communities. We have lots of hills and lots of erosion which clearly shows shortcuts taken by the developer. I was misled into believing the HOA consitant in their decisions and that I would have no issue enclosing my door. Its a security issue and an issue that impacts my pets. If you choose to live in one of these communities be aware that you will have to live with an unresponsive, inconsistant HOA that takes your money and does nothing to enhance the community. There are many other communities with well managed HOA’s that treat the owners with dignity and respect. You will get anything but from Augustine. This is the worst HOA I have ever been affiliated with. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid.
