My friend Bob and I were deciding what we were going to do for the weekend. After discarding many plans, we finally decided to go for a boat tour. Neither of us had been on a boat tour before and we thought it would be fun to try something new and interesting. After several hours of browsing and surfing the internet, reading reviews of tour companies, we decided to go for Cape Water Tours and Taxi. Neither of us realized that we were making a big mistake.
We decided to opt for a narrated tour as Bob had a keen interest in history and origin in general. There were many options to choose from and it took us some time to decide upon which specific narrated tour to go for. After a long discussion, it was decided that we would be going for the ‘East End Lighthouse Tour’. The tour was one and a half hours long or so it was stated. We had read the general itinerary stated on the website it seemed fun.
We reached The Lewes Ferry Terminal from where the tour was stated to start. We had to wait for at least an extra hour as the tour did not start at the time specified. After waiting for an extra hour, we boarded the boat which seemed shabby to me. The seats were not broad enough and it caused some difficulties. Along with us, there were many people including children, teenagers, and aged adults. Our guide boarded the boat with a rather cold look. He did not greet us or say “Hi” at the very least. He scolded a child who was crying as he was not feeling too well. We decided to ignore the fact that our guide did not have even the most basic etiquettes. The tour started and we could feel the breeze on our faces. However, that feeling did not last too long as the boat stopped halfway after making a loud, horrible sound. It took almost twenty minutes to make the boat move again. Finally, we reached the lighthouse. An elderly lady requested the guide to help her get down from the boat but he ignored her. I stepped in and offered to help. Immediately after getting off the boat himself, our guide decided to start his learned routinely introduction about the lighthouse without even caring whether anyone is listening or not. Bob, being the history enthusiast that he is politely asked the guard if he could repeat the introduction to which the guide replied “No”. No one was happy with the guide and therefore we decided to explore the place ourselves. Although it was a beautiful place, the beauty was disturbed by the smoke fumes arising from the guide’s cigarette which he was smoking while moving around instructing everyone to not take more than ten photos of the place.
Finally, the tour came to an end and we were dropped off back at the Lewes Ferry Terminal. It was one of the worst experiences I have ever had and I would not recommend anyone to ever go for Cape Water Tours and Taxi.
