Was very displeased to learn that Flavie-Laurent rejected my donation of great condition furniture, dishes and children’s clothing because it came from a Winnipeg Housing residence. I was told over the phone they have a policy against accepting donations from Manitoba Housing and Winnipeg Housing. I was told that the policy was created because the donation coming from people living in housing were typically “garbage” and that CFL did not have the manpower to sift through the things that “no one wants”. I told them everything came from a bug / smoke free home but these facts didn’t sway them. I explained the reason for my contribution was because my family is relocating out of provonce and that there was nothing wrong with the items. I explained that our vehicle simply was not big enough to haul large pieces of furniture and I was told that they would not take them or schedule a pick up. I asked why a non-profit organization who claims to help stengthen the needy community would discriminate againt people wanting to donate from a housing home and the manager told me himself that he didn’t understand the policy but that he needed to honour it. I am sad to learn that this organization is not in fact true to their word and that they discriminate againt low income families, which are the very people they claim to target “helping”. It is my hope that the right person from this organization becomes aware of this outrageous misconduct and the spark change in an archeic form of busniess. I hope people who look into donating to this organization think twice before dropping off their goods here because these people are hippocrites and falsely claim to help those in need. I would urge you to donate to real organizations making a true difference within the community and not based on discriminatory selection. Here is a small list of organizations who truly make a difference in our community and are therefore great alternatives to Centre-Flavie Laurent: Turning Leaf Salvation Army Value Village Diabetes.ca FurnitureBank.org Oyate Tipi Cumini Yape MCC Furniture Thrift Store there are many others but please be mindful of the organizations you are giving to as many of them have secret prejudicial treatment.
