I met ‘Cornesha Bee Patterson’ on a dating website. After exchanging a few emails, we made plans to meet in person. Our meeting went quite well. ‘Cornesha’ was lively and charming. She told me she was a PhD candidate at the University of Chicago, and was in the process of completing her dissertation in Divinity. She claimed her dissertation committee was comprised of notable professors, such as Rowena Doniger, and Wendy Wilson. We went on several dates, and I began to develop feelings this individual who I thought was focused and scholarly. While we met in the Hyde Park area several times, where University of Chicago is located. I slowly picked up cues that I thought were odd. For example, she didn’t have any friends from school. While we would meet at coffee shops and ‘work’ together, she never allowed me to read any aspects of her dissertation. While she claimed to live in Hyde Park, we never actually met at her apartment. Conveniently, she had a roommate that was not open to male visitors. I later learned that ‘Cornesha’ was not a student at University of Chicago and was not working on her PhD. After we broke things off, I noticed suspicious activity on my webcam. I also have reason to believe my email was compromised. While I can’t say with certainty that ‘Cornesha’ was responsible for this, the timing appears to be very suspicious. I also have reason to believe that ‘Cornesha’ was working as an escort to support herself. She clearly was not a student, and didn’t have any other job. This is the only way she could have made ends meet. I’d like to warn other men out there who might fall prey to her charms. This woman claiming to be a scholar from a prestigious university is weaving an elaborate act, and might make you an unwilling accomplice in illegal activities. I hope no one suffers the humiliation I did at the expense of this woman.
