I have been trying since October to get a voucher for VDT glasses. I work in front of monitor all day, looking at spreadsheets and it’s taking a toll on my eyes with my everyday glasses. I requested it and was told I would receive it within 3 business days. Never received it so I called again. They claimed to have sent it, verified my address and said they would mail another. Never received it so I called again to find out they never mailed the second voucher. They apologized and said they would overnight it so I would receive it the next day. Fast forward to a week later and I still haven’t received the voucher. So I call AGAIN. They claimed to have overnighted it but would have to track it. What was supposed to be 3 business days has turned into almost a month.
One representative even said they don’t know if his managers would ok sending another. Sir, this is a voucher for glasses, not a check. No one wants this but me. And I can’t make a vision appointment for even new glasses without it since I would need to get VDT and regular glasses at the same time. I never call them for anything else but in the space of a few weeks, I have called them more than I ever have in the years I have had this coverage.
Its All About Up Selling the Customer
Visited Davis Vision, as it’s who my company’s insurance had listed. Per my policy – I have a $25 co-pay, and $130 allowance on frames. So I find a set of frames within the price range, then the sales pitch starts on the lens. First I’m told that I need the ~$250 lens to protect from UV light, I pass, then the ~$200 feather weight lens they offer I pass, telling her I want just the basic lens the insurance will cover.
In the end I get the basic polycarbonate lens – with no glare or coating she’s pushing. The cost $65 – I ask about the $25 co-pay. I’m told they don’t offer the basic lens and must purchase at a minimum the polycarbonates. Not too impressed, nice glasses, but such a push to up sell and the prices are just crazy. Next time it’s Costco for my glasses. When I told my work about the experience, they weren’t happier either.
Lost Glasses
As a government employee, my choices regarding eyeglass frames are limited if I intend to use my benefits. If I want a decent frame, I usually have to purchase them on my own and get the lenses at Davis Vision where I can use my benefits. I ordered two pairs of lenses for my sons at the same time, while I purchased their Ray-ban frames elsewhere. I called Davis to see if the glasses were ready. I was told that they were. When I get there, they can only find one pair and they are unable to give me a cogent explanation as to where the other pair is. My son needs to see. If I went to Costco, I could have gotten the glasses back and it would have cheaper WITHOUT MY BENEFITS.
Update 09/30/2014:After expressing concern about what was now being reported as a prolonged process, and demanding the return of my money and frames, the manager offered to give my sons lenses without the bells and whistles and when the other pair of lenses arrived, they would switch them back! Not totally resolved but I’ll accept it.
Bad Customer Service
** was rude on the phone and after being very short with me when I said thank you, she just hung up on me without saying anything. Very rude.
So Slow They Are Going Backwards
Submitted a reimbursement form weeks ago. Called to check on status of claim. They have no record of it and recommended calling back next week… They cannot even tell me the typical turn around time because it “depends on the number of claims”. Seriously? How can a company not be sufficiently staffed to cover periods of high demand? Will definitely let my employer know this is an unsatisfactory option for vision coverage.
Customer Service
Hello my name is Allison and I work via a eyeglass retail store. Davis Vision is one of the many providers we use. I had a recent patient come in to use his Davis Vision benefits to purchase a pair of prescription eyeglasses. I used their website to obtain the patient’s benefits however, the benefits were used by a different retailer over 2 years ago and he was temporarily ineligible. I attempted to contact Davis Vision insurance to resolve the matter.
After being on the phone waiting on hold for over 40 minutes, while having the patient waiting as well and getting extremely frustrated. Need to either hire more customer service reps or something because there should be no reason I should be on hold for that amount of time. It’s unprofessional to not only me as a provider having to do a job but to a patient/customer as well.
Awful Insurance Company
Davis Vision is the worst vision insurance I have had. I hear from my optometrist every year how hard Davis Vision is to work with. This was my first experience personally though. I got new glasses 2 months ago. When picking them up, the optometrist noted that the lenses had a defect in the lens coatings. They said they would get a warranty replacement from Davis. 2 months later, and my optometrist states that they are getting nowhere with Davis, who continually just leaves them on hold or fails to respond. I get new glasses every 2 years with Davis, and now have a pair of glasses that is worthless because they were not properly manufactured.
Poor Service
I purchased Davis Vision for my eyeglass coverage through a state retirement consortium. I visited my optometrist in mid-September and ordered new glasses. I was told it would take 4 weeks, that Davis is hard to work with. They did send my glasses in 4 weeks, but had made the left lens inaccurately. My doctor sent them back to be redone. That was in October. As of today, 12/3/19, I have not received my glasses from Davis Vision. Two weeks ago I ordered glasses another pair of glasses after dropping Davis and choosing a new insurance company for my vision. I picked those glasses up today. Still no word on the pair from Davis. With such poor performance, and reviews, how can Davis Vision stay in business. I cannot, and will not recommend this company.
All Around Poor Company
This insurance is the absolute worst. They do not care about their members or providers. As a provider, we have always had issues with Davis with delays in orders and less than standard product from their labs. However, since Feb 2019 Davis has gotten worse than ever imaginable. Providers are having to wait on the phone 5+ hours to get a representative. And that’s if the call isn’t dropped or the phones aren’t down due to “unschedule maintenance”.
We also have issues with the new website constantly being down for maintenance. If this was a random occurrence, it would be no big deal… But again, we have been dealing with the bruhaha since February! Please stay as far away from this company as you can! They are worse than a nightmare. How they are still in business, is beyond me. They need to answer to their piss-poor service in the healthcare industry. The conversion to versant health has not been the answer needed, Davis/Versant needs to be shut down completely!!!!
Davis Vision is terrible, failing business Nobody to answer phone
I work for an Ophthalmologist and have dealt with Davis Vision for 20 years. Since they switched to Versant October 1st, their provider service is nonexistent. I have been trying to reach someone for a week. I spend 8 hours a day on hold and can’t get anybody to help with numerous problems with getting claims paid, getting glasses made correctly for our patients. I feel like Davis Vision is going out of business and they can’t find anybody to work for them. It won’t be long that most doctors won’t participate with them because it is nearly impossible to get any help from provider services.
Reimbursement
I’m new to Davis Vision. I called to ask some questions (was Costco approved/in network vendor, was told yes). Long story short, purchased the contacts and they’re not in network. Called to tell Davis Vision what happened and they pulled the phone record and agreed, I was told incorrect info. I have now been trying to get ANY reimbursement and they have me jumping through ridiculous hoops and not paying. The last reason was I wrote my last name over the space where middle initial belongs ??. I’m trying to get $126 and it’s proven impossible. Good luck to anyone else trying to get reimbursed. Can only imagine how bad it would be to get sizable claim paid.
PS – if I could give zero stars, that would be my rating for them.
Defective Lenses
I purchased a new pair of glasses through my employer provided insurance carrier (Davis Vision). After my exam, I picked out new frames and lenses and those arrived within a couple of weeks. About 3 or 4 weeks after receiving my new glasses, I noticed a very faint line through the lenses and took those back to the office where I purchased the glasses. They took one look and said that the coating was completely messed up and said they would call Davis Vision.
About 2 weeks later I received a call from the office and told me after holding over 3 hours for Davis Vision that they would not replace the lenses. I could not believe it – the glasses are completely useless. They told me I would have to call them. I honestly did not know that Davis Vision had their own lab and that they had made the glasses. Anyhow – after several calls, I was basically told too bad that I should have purchased scratch insurance… This is not a scratch!!!
Shoddy Work
Recently went to the eye doctor and got an updated RX for new lens and frames. My insurance only covers/contracts with Davis Vision. I was informed by the doctor’s office that it would probably take 2-3 for my glasses order to be filled. At 2 weeks, I got a call from the eye doctor’s office informing me that my glasses had come in, but were defective. Apparently, the lens were too large for the frames and also had scratches on them. The office told me they had sent the order back to be refilled and that I can expect to wait another two weeks.
I have not been able to find out which Davis lab/vendor that the order was filled at, otherwise I would be calling them to complain. So far, I have contacted Davis Vision customer service to complain. I spoke with a representative, who gave me the party line. I also have made a complaint to my health insur. company. I informed them about what had happened as well as letting them know that Davis Vision has a lousy reputation.
Horrible Service and Wait Times for Representatives
I work for a provider in NYC and the service is horrendous. They switched over to a new system which exacerbates the issues. Patients with years of orders disappeared, the wait time on average is 6+ hours and the work is shoddy, sometimes being inaccurate or defective. The majority of people around us have Davis Vision insurance so we have no choice. But if you have a choice, DO NOT CHOOSE DAVIS VISION. THEY ARE HORRIBLE.
Davis Vision Stinks
When you search for providers online, the search function attempts to direct you to Visionworks retailers that don’t carry the less expensive Davis vision frames. HVHC, the previous owner of Davis Vision, and Centerbridge, the new owner BOTH have ownership of Visionworks. Sounds illegal to me. Took 4 weeks to get single vision lenses with arc sent uncut to my doctor. When my doctor placed my lens order, they accidentally forgot the transition. Only way to correct the order was to call the company. My doctor waited on hold to talk to a representative that did not update my order.
This happened because Davis Vision farmed out its service calls to a call center that couldn’t actually update the order. My doctor wasted an hour of time to talk to a person that wasn’t even a company representative that could assist. Ordered glasses online from a website, got them in 1 week. For those of you fed up with Davis Vision and FEP blue vision I suggest an alternative: Zenni Optical, mail order glasses. I got 2 pairs of single vision, polycarbonate glasses, (the 1.57 lenses on their website), with anti glare for $50 total.
The company does transitions, sunglasses, high index, and tons of other stuff. The retail prices of their extra upgrades often is less or equal to what you would be charged in copayments through your plan. For what you spend in premiums all year long, 100-150$, you could take that money, pay for your eye exam outright, and get a pair of single vision, or lined bifocal lenses. For those of you that aren’t into mail order, I would recommend Wal-mart, Costco, or Sam’s Club Optical.
The prices they charge for the fancy upgrades are also often less expensive than what your copayments through insurance are. For example, Walmart charges about $30 for single vision plastic lenses; many Davis plans charge a $25 copayment for no frills, standard lenses. The only real value you are getting from the insurance is cost savings on the eye exam itself. Exams tend to be free – 10$ through the insurance, out of pocket an exam can be 60-100$ sometimes more.
Can't Even Ship a Frame
Been trying to get a replacement frame for my daughter for a month. They keep saying they’ll overnight it & then never send it. Have reordered something like 3 times now. So she’s been without her glasses for a month now. Don’t understand how anyone can be this incompetent & still stay in business. The kicker – I’m an optometrist & if they can’t do anything right for me, how do you think they treat their patients? I’ve been familiar with this company for over 20 years & they’ve always had a reputation as worst of the worst. One star is too generous but zero stars was not an option given.
What a Bunch of Crooks
I wish I read what others wrote here and paid out of pocket for my glasses. My job uses Davis Vision for insurance. I used it this year for the first time. I went to a new eye doctor (mine retired). I wanted to use my old, beautiful designer frames I paid cash money for a couple of years ago with the new lens prescription.
They sent them out to Davis Vision in PA (found out later). One month or so later, I am informed they BROKE MY FRAMES. Now, they want me to buy a whole new pair of glasses using one of the Davis Vision frames at 20% off. Really? They damaged my property and now they want me to send them more money and wait longer? Don’t use Davis Vision EVER EVER. I have contacted my state representative about their shady business practices. I will also be calling the work insurance ombudsman. This is fraud.
Don't Do It!
My first experience with Davis Vision was through an optician broker in my hometown. I bought frames from the optician, then the frames were sent to Davis to be fitted for lenses. 2 1/2 months AFTER the frames were sent to them, I finally received my glasses! But only after Davis “lost” the frames I purchased from my local optician. Lucky for me, the optician made good with me.
Even though Davis was at fault, the optician purchased an identical frame for me on their own dime, and sent this second frame for fitting. Six months later, I needed a second pair of eyeglasses, and a SECOND lost pair of frames occurred! Really?? I’ve now given up, and so has my optician. They will never deal with Davis again.
Terrible Service Regarding Eye Glass Lenses
New lenses were ordered for my frames in December. Called eye care center in early to mid January to check on status. Was told that only one lens was delivered. Here it is February and I have not heard anything regarding my new lenses. Called eye care center again to check on status, but they told me they still have not received the lenses and they know nothing about the status on my lenses. The eye care center assured me that they would follow up with Davis Vision. We have eye care coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield FEP Blue Vision and evidently they use Davis Vision. Service is terrible!!!
Extremely Poor Quality Lenses and Workmanship
I have Davis Vision Insurance. Eye Associates of New Mexico is one of the few provider who will take this insurance. Now I know why. My lenses were never clear, always blurry, and they scratched for an unknown reason, despite supposedly having scratch guard (I have never had a pair of lenses scratch before). They replaced the lenses with even blurrier lenses and with the wrong Rx. They were sent back again.
Today I received a call from my provider stating that the lenses did not fit the frames and were forced into it, so they would have to be sent back again! Each time it takes nearly three weeks. I am a student and have not been able to read for almost two months. This company needs to be put out of business fast!
Insurance
I order my glasses 02/2/19, and as of 2/28/19 still no glasses. All I got were excuses. If your employer tries to offer this company as your Vision Provider run. I called and all I received was one lie after another.
Forget Trying To Talk To Someone
The first time I called I sat on hold for 50 minutes. I decided to write an email instead. They responded back to my email the same day and said they would be in contact with me in 1-2 business days. It’s been 4 business days. I’ve currently been on hold for over an hour. I’ll stay on hold until the end of the day or until someone picks up, whichever comes first. I can understand why my eye dr, whom I’ve had since 1992 and takes every other eye insurance doesn’t take Davis Vision.
Refuses to Pay Claim
Filed proper paper work for claim with original receipt and it was refused the first time because the eye doctor had not signed it, had the doctor sign it and was refused again because the receipt was not with it. Then they tell me the wife was not on my coverage (has been for 30 years) after getting that straightened out now they want the form and receipt resubmitted together which they already have. What a lousy business.
Federal Vision Insurance
I’m a federal employee with Davis Vision through BCBS and will next year find another plan. I’ve had the same problem with lenses scratching as other reviewers. I’ve been waiting 3 weeks for new lenses with no hope in sight. There must be a better provider in the federal network. They could not be any worse.
Terrible Company
Why did Ford Motor Co pick such a terrible company like Davis Vision for eyeglass coverage. I had to pay for my own eyeglasses and submit the bill to Davis Vision. They only covered what I paid ($80) to have the coverage. Why bother with coverage? Terrible terrible company and Ford Motor should be ashamed for choosing this company for salaried retirees. Last year we had Heritage which was an excellent company. I will not renew my coverage with Davis Vision.
Poor Quality Lenses
Do not use this company for any reason. My lenses were ordered back on 2/12/18. Today is now 4/5/18 and after my lenses not being correct for a 4th time I still do not have them, very poor quality, blurred, thickness is uneven compared to other lenses, measurements off, everything about this company is bad. If I could have my claim reversed I would do so and not use them for lenses for my glasses.
Poor Quality and Taking Too Long
Once they took 3 months to make my lens. I had to send them back because of poor quality and they took another 3 months to get them back. I went 6 months to be able to see well. Now I have waited 6 weeks so far for new prescription to be made. Their employees are not experienced and do a lousy job.
2nd Pair of Poor Quality Eye Glasses
2nd pair of poor quality eye glasses. Everyone notices spots in glass thinking they are dirty. Fisheye in the glasses 2nd pair and can’t see. Going to pay out of pocket for new eyeware. This company having these glasses made in China should be shut down. I did not get what I paid for. Two pair and the lenses look dirty when clean. Davis Vision a RIPOFF.
Poor Quality and Customer Service
I am extremely dissatisfied with the service from Davis Vision labs regarding my frames and prescription. No order should take in excess of a month to fulfill correctly. My order has now been sent back twice because of the inexperience/ineptness of the lab and poor quality assurance and inspection prior to sending out to the patient. The first time was due to the prescription measurements being ignored. The second time was due to the wrong lens shape and without holes drilled for placement in my glasses. And due to Davis Vision mistakes and delays, I’m not permitted my money back. That’s theft.
My money was not paid to Davis Vision to get everything wrong. The reasons my order was sent back had nothing to do with me, but everything to do with Davis Vision and its incompetence and lack of attention to detail. I think there’s malpractice in something like that. The way its payment policy is set up guarantees they keep the money but don’t really have to hone your skills or produce a professional product.
A reputation will either make a business or kill it. Rest assured, that along with this negative review on the Davis Vision website, there will be other negative reviews online for the public to see regarding this provider. The Texas location was bragged up quite a bit but I see that was hype and wishful thinking. Perhaps Eye Professionals will decide not renew contracts with Davis Vision because their reputations are also on the line for what is produced. I know my eye doctor had done so for these very same reasons. He wants nothing to do with Davis Vision services.
It would be one thing to be a reputable lab and have a stringent refund policy, but Davis Vision makes it a practice of keeping funds and delivering poor quality. Davis Vision needs to be pushed out of business. Hopefully, it will get its act together and become a reputable supplier, but not before I choose another provider once open enrollment comes around in a couple of months. At that time, I will be going back to VSP. The Marketing and Customer Service departments can only do so much. The proof of business integrity and reliability comes with the ability to deliver quality products on time. Davis Vision has proven none of those things.
Incompetence of Customer Service Persons and Loss of Documents
About 8/2013 I sent a claim form with a copy of the invoice for an Out of Network claim. I should have received about $75 reimbursement. I got a letter saying I needed to list the date of service on the claim form. Note: it was on the invoice but they could not find the invoice! I again filled out a claim form with the date of service, xeroxed it and mailed it again. I waited and waited and did not hear back from Davis Vision.
On 2/1/2014, I called Davis Vision and asked where my claim was (second time I had sent in a claim form and the same supporting documents). This time I was told I needed to have a detailed cost breakdown, lenses, frames etc. I said no one contacted me that anything was missing and that the cost was not broken down for me in the invoice I had received. In addition, if anything was missing it should have been listed in the first letter I got from Davis Vision.
They have no record of the documents I sent in, invoice etc. (they obviously lost it again). The supervisor (Escalation Team) now wants me to again send in the documents! They lose everything and then want the customer to repeatedly send in copies of the same documents. Their staff is not only inefficient, but irresponsible and they make the customer go in circles and waste more time. I will talk to my group and recommend that they drop Davis Vision. I asked the supervisor to track down the documents that I sent in and to have a manager contact me.
I recommend going with another optical insurer as Davis Vision is irresponsible and wastes the customers’ time and energy. It might be that they save money by not paying claims in a timely fashion and making the customer jump hoops. They need to fire the staff that has ‘lost’ documents unless this is more a policy of Davis Vision rather than the inefficiency of the staff.
This Is What Hell Looks and Feels Like
I am writing this complaint after 6 days of pure hell. I took my daughter to the Centereach, NY location for an eye exam and new glasses. At my daughter’s visit, the person who performed the exam noted that after the test that measured eye pressure was performed that my daughter had “higher than normal” IOP AND ONH. She then proceeded to discuss IN FRONT OF MY 11 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER her opinion of the results. She scared my daughter and I stopped her so that I could send her out the room.
She then proceeded to tell me that she had “An old person’s disease” and that in someone so young it was not good. Her attitude was extremely abrasive. I asked her about what possibilities these results meant and she pronounced a sentence of glaucoma on my little girl. I work with a wonderful doctor who immediately recommended an actual educated and knowledgeable eye specialist.
I took my daughter to see him only to be told that her eye pressure was nowhere near abnormal high and even before ALL testing was done that glaucoma should have never been mentioned. Had this person just told us that they found something that needed further testing to determine and/or rule out a number of things, perhaps we would not have had as many upsetting and scary days and nights before we were able to see a competent healthcare professional. Her referral was even completely unprofessional. She did not include the numbers, values or levels of her findings.
I am planning on seeking legal counsel unless I have some assurances that she has been spoken to and dealt with accordingly. This will not go away, I plan on making sure anyone I can contact will be made aware of how their employees treat and scare patients and their families.
How dare she scare my little girl, myself and my husband. She should be ashamed. The ONLY reason I will enter the store again will be to pick up our glasses which I have an appointment with her doctor to be rechecked to make Sure her RX is correct, which I assume will probably be wrong knowing the inept person who performed her exam as well as the fact I won’t see them for many weeks. My insurance company will also be informed of my complaint against the person who performed my daughter’s exam as well as the Centereach location.
Incompetent Service
I have worn glasses since I was a small child (several decades), and never had problems with any prescription. My current employer uses Davis Vision as part of their insurance package. On 8/1/13 I had an eye exam but was not happy with the choice of available frames so I ordered a pair of frames elsewhere, and then returned to my optician who sent the frames to Davis. I was told they would be available in two or three weeks.
A month later I went back asking about progress. The next day, the optician called to say that Davis had mailed the glasses to the wrong address, and they could not be traced. The optician agreed to reorder the frames from where I purchased them, and Davis was to make a new pair of lenses. Three weeks went by and the optician called day before yesterday to say that the glasses had arrived, and Davis had not made the lenses correctly. I did attempt to cancel the glasses yesterday, but was told that any refund would have to come from Davis, not the optician, and that it was probably “too late” for a refund because Davis had already charged my insurance company.
It is now 11/2/13, exactly three months since my exam, and I still do not have a pair of glasses. Meanwhile, I am out several hundreds of dollars for glasses that I have yet to see. The optician told me that they prefer not to use Davis, but have no choice if Davis is specified by the insurance provider. The optician said that Davis quality is consistently poor. For example, bifocals or graduated lenses arrive with the graduation on the top of the lenses. Lenses are frequently reversed with the right eye lens having the left eye prescription, and vice versa.
I will never use Davis Vision in the future. I would prefer to pay a bit extra out of pocket to have good quality eyeglasses delivered in a reasonable amount of time. I have complained to my employer and asked them to drop Davis as part of their insurance package. Why should I pay extra for insurance coverage that is worse than no insurance at all?
Bad Customers Services
My dad is currently working for Goodman manufacturing company; as in the healthcare benefit they are offering him the vision care which is covered by Davis Vision. In the Goodman healthcare guide, they state that “there is no ID card. Simply tell the provider that you are covered by Davis Vision when you make the appointment.” So I’m doubt about there is no ID card, how come they can verify whether my dad has the insurance with ID number.
So I called to Davis Vision to verify with them my concern. Me: “Hi, My name is Nancy, I’m calling on behalf of my dad, could you verify if my dad has enrolled in your insurance? Could you find his name in the system? I enrolled him in the Goodman manufacturing benefit system but not sure if he really got covered without issuing ID card?” Customer Rep: “No, I can’t release any information about him for you without his consent.”
Me: “Really? I didn’t ask you to release any information about him. I just ask the question to verify.” The lady over the phone line seems not understand my question and kept saying the same thing. Me: “If you can’t answer my questions please transfer me to your manager or supervisor because this is my time ever that I have asked the question but someone asks for the consent.” Candy (who so-called manager) didn’t listen to what I am trying to explain but attempt to jump in my throat, even I didn’t finished talking.
The same answer was repeated over and over “We can’t release any information to you except for your dad authorization…” without any appropriate answers. Me: “Do you have someone there can translate to my dad? Since he can’t speak English that’s why he needs my help to verify for him.” Candy: saying the same stuff with no understanding the situation.
All I ask them is just say that “Yes, we cover vision insurance for Goodman employee, and there is no need ID card for your dad.” That’s it I wanted to hear but they make things complicated, hard to the patients. Both the manager Candy and the customer representative are so rude in the way they were speaking or explaining to their patients. They were talking loud and rude. They shouldn’t be worked in the customer services without human common sense, basis of understanding nor knowledge how to serve the customers.
Incompetence Reigns at Davis
My wife, daughter and son went for their annual eye exams at our optometrist. All three were eligible for new glass through our vision insurance. The insurance is through Highmark BCBS, with the vision administrated through Davis.
My wife’s glasses came back in 12 days, with little problems. My daughter’s came back in 7 days. Two weeks later the lenses kept falling out. They were not cut correctly. Having to send the glasses back to Davis to have the lenses recut began my second round of phone calls. They have physically had my daughter’s lenses in their possession for 12 days so far and still cannot tell me when I will get them back.
The first round of headaches began when they lost my son’s frames. My doctor shipped them in the same box as my daughter’s glasses. After 15 days they finally admitted to my doctor that they lost the frames and the replacement frames were on back order. My doctor was able to receive the frames from the manufacturer in 2 days. With many phone calls BCBS reluctantly allowed my doctor to make his lenses. They turned the glasses around in a week. No problems with those.
Every time I call I get a new excuse. I have heard: It was my doctor’s fault for not expediting the repairs. It takes longer when you do not purchase the frames through Davis. The previous representative I spoke with gave me the wrong information… and so on. Davis has a 66% FAILURE RATING this year. The previous year was only slightly better at 33%. My suggestion, if you have a choice go anywhere other than Davis. It’s a culture of excuses and pass the buck.
Refusal to Cover Required Prescription
I had chicken pox as a child, just like anyone else over 30. Instead of getting shingles on my torso, I got it on my cornea. I live near Sheie in Philadelphia, PA. The specialists there said it was unsafe to wear regular contacts as it could cause the problem to spread to my entire eye. Loss of vision in that eye, and possibly loss of the entire eye. Far less sharp than vision. However, vision correction with glasses is far less sharp than with contacts. I later learned that wearing a scleral lens on the affected eye would overcome the concerns and allow me to have the sharp vision I previously enjoyed.
This is the first time Davis has been asked to provide any eyewear in the five years we have been paying them premiums. They said no scleral lens. The total additional cost would have been less than $1000. Needless to say, we have paid far more than that to them over the past five years. I requested to hear why directly from the eye doctors they said made the decision. They said fine, but it would take a few days.
I’m still waiting, I’m not holding my breath. I think everyone who has paid premiums and not gotten services should file a class action suit. I have contacted an attorney with one of the top firms in the country who insists we would win. Anyone else mad enough to file suit?
Poor Service
Ordered glasses through Davis Vision. My optometrist has called me 2 twice to say that Davis Vision once again has not shipped the glasses due to them failing quality control for reflective coating issues. I have already waited 20+ days for these glasses so I called Davis vision to say that I would like to see what the issue is. They confirmed that yes they had failed at putting on the reflective coating 2x. So I said to please make the glasses without the coating. They claim they can not do that. Really I paid extra for the coating so why can I not get them without the coating!
Makes me think that the coating is a scam to begin with. All glasses either must come with the coating or they are having other issues at their lab other than the coating as they can not make my glasses without the coating. This company is horrible. Do yourself a favor and not use them, they are just one big headache. Waiting a month for glasses in this day and age is absolutely unacceptable. I pay good $ for their vision plan and they can not deliver on their end!
Lack of Honesty and Integrity
On April 29, I left my own sunglasses to a Davis Vision provider to have prescriptions lenses to my sunglasses. I paid $105 for the prescriptions lenses. Today, September 21, 2015 I still don’t have my prescriptions sunglasses. Davis Vision damaged and/or lost my sunglasses. I’ve been trying to get a refund for the $105 I already paid for the service never consummated and to have Davis Vision pay me for a replacement sunglass for the one they lost/damaged.
It’s almost 5 months since this process started and I’m still fighting with Davis Vision to have my refund. They don’t return my calls and I am appalled by this company lack of honesty and integrity towards their clients. And this is nothing to say about plain stealing. Stay away from Davis Vision if you can.
They Are All About the Sales
Part of my “eye exam” was performed by the sales manager because the eye doctor’s assistant was late. He skipped part of it, and I only found out because when she did finally arrive I saw her doing additional tests on a different customer…. I should have known better than to revisit, but my husband has been happy with them and I had renewed the insurance. Last year the prescription was horribly wrong and after complaining multiple times I finally tossed them in the drawer. The doctors are OK, but this is not a place that cares about your eyes. It is run by sales people and they do not care about your eye health.
Horrible Policies
My company is famous for changing insurance companies and two years ago we had Davis Vision. Last year, we had a different provider and this year, back to Davis. My son broke his glasses and went to get a new pair. New policy, should be no problem. Wait, Davis decides to use the 24 month benefit on the lapsed policy from two years ago. Now, if I tried to get them to cover lens and eye exam last year, they would deny but they are allowed to go back to a lapsed policy? My company’s insurance broker spoke to them and got fed a line about how there should be a benefit it is due to benefits being listed on social security numbers and not policy numbers…. What?
Well needless to say, even though Davis made the statement, when trying to access the benefit for frames, it is still denied at the provider level. A month later and no resolution. Waiting to January to get a second pair and paid out of pocket for this pair. Ridiculous!
Poor Service
Ordered glasses a month ago… Told it would be a 10 day wait. Optician called to tell me that they sent the wrong lenses and it would be another 10 days. Then all went silent. Spoke to my optician this week who told me I would definitely eventually get my glasses. Got a call back from my optician who told me Davis broke the frames and new ones would need to be sent (10+ days). My wife called Davis and asked them to FedEx the lenses while the optician looked for the glasses. They agreed to reduce the cost and FedEx the lenses.
The lenses never showed up. When I called today they said they would make them next Tuesday. After speaking to a rep, a supervisor, and requesting a manager I was told next Tuesday would be the best they could do and they would not overnight them. When the manager calls me back I will cancel the order and will ask my company to cut Davis as an insurance provider. This has been a ridiculous experience!
Always a Fight for Reimbursement
Went to OD Doctor for eye exam at Costco. Submitted OUT OF NETWORK claim for with the examiner’s signature for eye exam and Costco’s figure for frames and lenses filled in and signed by both OD, Dr and the glasses vendor. Included a copy of my prescription which also included charge for eye exam and a procedure code of ** (not noted on claim form). Got a rejection of exam charges due to unapproved procedure code refraction **. Always something with these people and we pay for coverage under COBRA since GM canceled retiree eye care and dental many years ago.
I do not go to their providers because they make so many mistakes and have poor quality frames and lenses. Called to question the rejection but the CS representative had no access to my paperwork so will request it be reopened. Now I wait again with no confidence of reimbursement.
Poor Quality
I am going into 6 weeks of trying to get a pair of eyeglasses. The first time they sent them to the Dr office, they had bad lens, the second time the lab sent them to the Dr office, the prescription was wrong. This is the third time the Dr has ordered these glasses. The lab told the Dr that they would call me and work out something. No communication at all from the lab. This is totally unacceptable!! I have asked for a refund so I can use another lab, even offering to pay out of pocket but Davis Vision will not give refunds. So my money is tied up with a company that has very poor quality and no communication. I am now trying to get my employer involved.
Looking For My Glasses If I Could Only See
I went to the Allegheny Ophthalmology in Natrona Heights, Pa. I received my glasses in about 8 days, the frames had nicks all over them. The optical dept returned them to the lab with Davis Vision to be replaced and I have been waiting 3 weeks still no glasses. They only had to replace the frames not make new lenses. I can not get any assistance with this. I am told the Dr offices has no control over this. The lab is picked by Davis Vision and they won’t give any information on what’s going on with my glasses. I didn’t get glasses for a fashion statement. I bought them so I can see correctly. I need to know who or what I can do next.
This is not a reputably way to service eye care. If this lab can’t do their job it’s Highmark and Davis Vision responsibility to partner with someone who will. I am sorry I picked these frames. For an additional fee I could have picked someone else. I also think it’s the Dr’s office optical dept to post a disclaimer letting patients know they have many complaints and no customer service if you pick these frames approved by Davis Vision. The optical dept. let me know this after I kept calling them.
Very disappointed on how this is handled and will post complaints everywhere I can, Facebook, Twitter and places like this. Everyone else should too and maybe we can force these companies to do what’s right or do us all a favor and get out of bad business.
Wasted My Time
I went in, late in the day, and they said they could do a regular exam; after having waited 45 minutes, I was informed that I must purchase lenses (i.e., no purchase, no exam). I thought it very nice of them to give an exam after hours however should’ve realized there was something attached! I did purchase from them last year; the glasses were nice-looking, however it did take them an awfully long time to produce the final result. Note: I wasn’t covered for the lenses last year so that it wasn’t even a ‘bargain.’ Many other places are far more professional –Beware of this chain.
Stupid Requirements
I have no problem with the provider I used. The problem is with Davis Vision Insurance coverage. My provider examined my eyes and said I needed stronger lens. I knew this was the case. The stupidity began when they said Davis required them to send in my frames to get the lens made. I didn’t want new frames, just lens. How in the world does Davis expect someone to see while they have my glasses. Most people that I know of wear their glasses because they actually need them to see. What a stupid company. I will be doing everything I can to get my company to drop them and get coverage from someone else.
Davis Vision - Horribly Snail's Slow Paced Service
Going through my eye care provider to get new replacement lenses, what a pain. They don’t even know the correct co-pays of Davis Vision and then Davis (the insurance co.), they’re even worse. Three to four weeks waiting to get my new uncomplicated prescription progressive lenses? Come on. This is just ridiculously poor service. If it wasn’t offered through my employer and the savings I receive, I’d have nothing to do with these morons.
I’ve emailed Davis’ customer services, bantering back and forth with their non-sense e-mails, saying I have to phone them about the co-pay situation and slow service on the new lenses. With all this energy expended, and they’re spending in engaging with e-mail requests and their answering, you’d think that they’d just do their jobs to
begin with?! Wouldn’t you? Go figure with these idiots.
Rip Off and Dishonest
I went to get a pair of glasses. The sale lady who took care of me was trying to get me to buy a upgrade lens. She lied and told me that my insurance doesn’t cover lenses. Which they do cover. The other salesman sold my husband with the same sales pitch. The people there are extremely dishonest. Their goal is to get you to pay much more than what the insurance co. pays. Beware. I do not recommend them.
Filling Glasses Prescription - Not
They are horrible. It took 3 tries before finally making the glasses the way they were prescribed. 1st time they didn’t tint them and they put the wrong length stems on. The 2nd time they made the left lens incorrectly. They refused a request to refund any money. The eyeglass facility said they had so many problems with Davis Vision, they were seriously considering dropping them. Be smart and complain to your HR Dept if you have this company offered benefit. It’s a joke!
Bad Service
I recommend going with another optical insurer as Davis Vision is irresponsible and wastes the customers’ time and energy. It might be that they save money by not paying claims in a timely fashion and making the customer jump hoops. They need to fire the staff that has ‘lost’ documents unless this is more a policy of Davis Vision rather than the inefficiency of the staff.
Incompetent Service for Claims
Filed a claim on October 16, 2014. Talked to more than a dozen people at Davis Vision (who pride themselves by saying “where all calls are PROUDLY administered in the USA”) and each one promised to process the claim every time including countless supervisors. The so-called supervisors also promised to call me back to give me updates but no one ever called. Today is the 27th of December and still waiting. Please take note that the claim is only $60.00. Can’t wait to move to another provider next year.
Bogus Insurance
I enrolled for vision insurance through them, in the benefits document they had mentioned Costco is one of the providers. When I bought glasses from Costco they informed that particular Costco is not covered, so they denied my claim. I was paying around $40 month as premium. I canceled their service, I used the premium money to buy 2 pairs of glasses from Costco next time. Looks like these guys are good in taking our money and when it comes to giving it back they find all kinds of excuses.
Skip if You Can!
Awful, rude workers who can’t be bothered to help you. Constant wait although 10 workers are visibly doing nothing. I have to go because of my insurance, if not I would totally avoid this place.
