, I have rented europcar car in paris bastilia on 1.7.16 and returned it in gare de nurd on 9.7.16. When I got the car the gasoline was filled with only quarter. I have discovered it when I was already on the way and took a picture with the gasoline mark and the speedometer (51723). I have returned the car exactly as I received it with quarter gasoline filled and took picture of the speedometer (54252). I told that to europcar representative at gare de nurd return station and she told me that I will not be charged. To my surprise when I got your invoice number [protected], I was charged for fuel for 114.28 euro. I have complained to ofran in israel few times for refund but did not get an answer.

1. We requested a specific car (large enough for family of 4 travelling from Australia) but on arrival, after long haul flights-with 2 small children-My husband was forced to pay another 700 pounds to get a car big enough as was told they go by “engine size”-really??? We ordered a specific car based on size… they did not provide it and took advantage of us in a tough spot. I want a full refund-all photos and info sent but still no reply… We are awaiting following this up with the Ombudsman who asked us to lodge a complaint with Europcar first. 2. Husband got a fine for being in a bus lane-they took 40 pounds to send us the penalty notice. He assumed this meant they paid it-who charged 40 pounds for admin??? But no, we received a 90 pound notice as it was unpaid and europcar misled us as they had written to say they would pay it. We want that back too. Still waiting…Paula O”[protected]@yahoo.com

22/23 August 2016 Hired a car from Europcar whilst in England for a funeral, unfortunately I had to cross the Dartford Crossing which I did not know there was a charge. Not only was I fined by the MOT but Europcar charged an admin fee directly from my card twice for the same incident. I cannot contact them about this at all – if you phone it is a charged number, as I am abroad being on hold for 20 minutes then having to give up twice is costing even more money! – not 1 reply to around 10 emails – no reply to a complaint in writing This company cannot be contacted if you have a complaint!!!

After hiring 1 car (BMW) almost every month for three years and several others at various times as well Europcar has seen fit to send an account for 400.00 NOK to a Credit Company because they could not get the money from the card that I registered with them three months after I returned the car. In the last year alone I paid Europcar Oslo over 75, 000.00 NOK!!! I have repeatedly requested that I get air miles credited to my SAS account, to date I have not received one single credit. How I regret to have paid a company so much money and to be treated in such a way. They will never get the oppotunity to do it again to me.

After renting a car for one week in Norway in July-August 2017, I turned the car in at a downtown Oslo location. I spoke to the rep at the location and he agreed that I had turned the car in one day early and would not be charged for the extra day. He even hand wrote the date/time of the return. However, the charge to my credit card was for the higher amount. Since August I have been trying to get Europcar to send me a corrected invoice in English but they never respond to my emails and their customer service line in the USA is constantly busy. The bottom line here is that customers should be wary of renting from Europcar in Norway and Europcar’s customer service in the United States is non-existent.

After renting a car from Europcar for a week in May the car stalled on the next to the last day. We tried for 5 hours to talk to somebody in the roadside assistance department. We were continually hung up on or put on hold. Finally at 1 a.m. a tow truck picked us up. When we got to the tow truck drivers shop europcar told us they were not responsible for anything. It would be up to us to get back to our villa. We took a taxi for 200 euros back to our villa. The next day europcar laughed at us when asked how we were supposed to get back to Rome. It took us 400 euros to get back to Rome. It cost $300 in phone calls to deal with roadside assistance. When we arrived that afternoon at the Rome airport europcar office we were told it was Saturday and nothing could be done. We filed a complaint and wanted our taxi fare refunded plus the 8th day charges of the car rental since we didn’t have the car for the 8th day. I have tried repeatedly to contact Europcar. They do not answer e-mails and will not answer the phone. A couple of weeks after returning home Europcar took money out of my credit card account for the tow truck, gas, and special fees. They have the worst customer service. How they can say on their website that they will take care of you wherever you are. And every Italian we met told us never to rent a car with Europcar.

At Europcar Faro we were robbed of 500 euros with the ‘tyre ok’ scam. They ask you to check tyres and, obviously, you check that they are fully inflated and have sufficient tread. On return of car they point out minute marks, or scuffs, on the tyre walls and say that because you agreed that the tyres were ok you must pay for the ‘damage’ to the tyres. We were ‘done’ for 3 tyres and they asked for 500 euros for a Mitsubishu Colt (approx 35 euros retail). Please report this scam to UK European Consumer Centre as they require as much info as possible to try to put a stop to the practices of this company. Beware Europcar – they are the pirates of the world !! Steve Northampton

Attached please find the Europcar documents I received for reference. I found that my credit card company has credited Euro 477 on Feb 12, 2019 instead of Euro 177. Later on, i was told by Economy Car Rentals that this extra Euro 306 was charged by Europcar Car Rentals Company about the paint scratch on mudguard. According to the documents provided by Europcar documents, i would like to complain about the Europcar staff and the overcharge about a paint scratch on mudguard. 1. On the date of return (Feb 11, 2019), I was informed by Europcar staff that i don”t have to pay any fee on the minor color paint scratch on mudguard. However, it turned out that my credit card was suddenly charged Euro 477 on Feb 12, 2019 without any notice in advance. 2. Secondly, the Europcar staff informed that there are already many other serious scratches on the car surface on 1st day. The staff informed me that the color scratch on the surface of the car.is minor damage on the date of return. 3. Finally, the admin charge (Euro 75) and damage charge on a paint scratch on front wing (Euro 214.43) are extremely high. It was seriously overcharged. In fact, your staff told me that it will not be charged on the date of return. I am writing to request Europcar explain the poor customer service provided and refund me all the excess payment issue regarding my booking below: Invoice: [protected] EconomyCarRentals e-Voucher No: ECBA5530 Car Rental Provider Confirmation No: [protected] Rate Code: [protected]

August 13, 2012 my friend and I rented a car at Belfast Intl. airport. As we were driving to our friends’ house, we had trouble with the clutch. After discussing with friends, I contacted Europcar and asked for a replacement vehicle. I was told someone would get back to me. About 3 1/2 hours later, we left to go to a nearby village for dinner and on the way the clutch quit working altogether, leaving us stranded and barely able to get to a safe parking spot. We had driven this car only 52 miles and only had it for 9 hours. Europcar would not replace it and charged us over $1500 for repairs. I filed a claim with Mastercard the morning after the car broke down and they spent many months trying to get documentation as to damage, etc and they never received any damage estimate from Europcar. To top it off, on our flight home, we met a group of women from New York that had the EXACT same issue with the clutch in their car; they had rented from the same location and car rental company. Coincidence? I don’t think so. I think Europcar is running a scam and figure that once you’ve returned home, you will give up the fight and just pay them. To say that this put a damper on our trip is an understatement. And because we had to go elsewhere to find a car at the height of tourist season, we ended up paying a premium price for a replacement. I just wish there was some way to hold Europcar accountable.

Beware of the bill- make sure you check Europcar/Alamo. I have been hiring for years and am fed up with the charges Europcar in Watford keep adding on at the end of a hire using the credit card details they have from you. I have had success in refunds, I hire so much I have separate insurance, and thankfully Barclaycard continues to come to the rescue at its own cost. Getting Europcar to respond in some cases must only work if you take legal action against them, which I would like to do. No point in giving you details- you have plenty of examples from other complaints. So all I can say is check your bill and make sure you pay with a company like Barclaycard who will investigate the fraud.

Beware when you rent a car from Europcar from New Zealand. I rented a car from Queenstown from 05-16-09 to 05-21-09, and I got ripped off. I payed using my mastercard before we took the car out of the lot. I agreed to pay the amount in full. Everything went well but a month later there was a charge of 56.25 from Europcar. It was charged to my card the same day I turned the car in which was 05-21-09. I never agreed or authorized that payment. I send am e-mail about the charge. Two days later, I was told because I had used the snow chains in the car. First, I never used them because I never had problems with ice on the rode. I did inspect them but never used them. They said the tape on the box was broken so I was charged. I send an e-mail about getting a refund to Daniel Goodsir the manager but never heard from him and never got my money. There was nothing in the contract, and I was never told about the chains. If i was told about them, I would never even touch them. Also the service was bad and very unproffesional. The clerk was rude and did not seem to care for there guest. The car was dirty when it was given to me. I would never use this company again. They have lots of complains in customer reviews. I wish I would of check the reviews first. Be careful if you choose this company. You might find a surprise when you get your statement

Booked a car via their website for pick up at Zaventem Airport (Brussels, Belgium). I ordered the max protection for insurance. I received a “guaranteed price” confirmation via email shortly afterwards. However, the amount they charged my credit card was much higher than the guaranteed price. On the invoice they had charged me extra 3 days for “Rental of special equipment”. I had for sure not ordered (and neither recieved) any special equipment for the car, so I emailed Europcar for an explanation. After several emails forth and back since December 10th, I still have not received any answer (Jan 01) on what the special equipment is. So for me this is a theft and I have reported the transaction as fraud to my bank. I travel ca 200 days/night every year and I often rent a car on my destinations. I have never been exposed to behaviour like this before. I am going back to Brussels in January (not using Europcar for rental car this time of course). Then I will also visit the local Police station and report them there if possible.

Booked a Peugeot station wagon at Venice airport. Get there they said no Peugeot so they give us a Seat station wagon. We had checked before booking and found the Peugeot to have enough space for our luggage. The Seat they offered us could not fit our luggage. I ask for the VW station wagon and they said it was booked. Well so was my Peugeot, no? Only thing they had was a Mercedes so they ended up forcing us to upgrade at our expense. Return the car in Rome. They said there was a scratch on the bumper. I rub it out. Just a scrape where the other car left some paint on it. [Never park your car in one of those underground garage with car jockeys moving them about!]. The Europcar agent said that is still considered collision damage. I said that”s barely a scratch. He said, and I quote, “Sir, it”s a Mercedes so we must charge you.” So they forced me to upgrade, pay more for the upgrade, then because of this upgraded car, inferring that they might have let it go if it was on a car like say a Peugeot instead, they must charge me collision damage penalty. Unbelieveable. Complain to Europcar through FB. They contact me on messanger. As me for my contract and some details after 2 days. A day later they tell me if I want to complain then send an email to customer service. I notice that they put the cost through on my credit card the same day they got me to provide them with my contract details. I think they just asked me for my details so they could expedite processing payment! Never again will I use Europcar.

Contract number: [protected] I”ve hired a car from Europecar Cape Town, South Africa between 12.4.19 to 19.4.19 and unfortunately had an accident. A careless driver ran into the back of my car. When I called the rental office, I was told to arrive to the nearest branch for a car replacement. When I asked the lady on the phone whether I should take details she said: “Oh yes, you should do that to”. But did not give further instructions. I did ask whether there is anything else they need and was told – No. When I arrived to the Cape Town branch I was told that I should have gone to the nearest police station as they need a police case number. The branch manager said that otherwise I will be charged for liability. Reluctantly, i did that. I dropeed my family off and went to the police station. When I returned the car, the employee at the desk told me that Europcar should have gone to the police, not me and that he apologises. Today I discovered that I was cherged for liability. Europcar South Africa: This is the worst experience i had in terms of car rental. You did not give me clear information. You did not process the information that I provided and your branch manager was extremly arogant and rude. I will avoid hiring a car from you, even if it means i pay more.

Date of Incident: 29 November 2016 Rental Agreement Number: 862736 Reference Number: [protected] Case Numbers: [protected] and [protected] Description of Incident: Reserved vehicle through Hotwire.com from Europcar for trip to Ireland from 29 November 2016 through 12 December 2016. For vehicle rental waiving purchase of Europcar insurance, I was advised I required a US issued World Mastercard, proof that the credit card on which the vehicle was reserved had relevant coverage for the Republic of Ireland, and the Letter of Insurance from the credit card had to be dated within one month of the vehicle pickup date. All of these criteria were met, and all of this was provided at the rental station on 29 November 2016; however, the Europcar representative refused to accept it and would not release the reserved vehicle until she charged us an additional $536.83 for Europcar’s insurance coverage. Since 20 December 2016, I have been trying to resolve this situation through Europcar Customer Service; however, Europcar Ireland is falsely stating I did not have proof of insurance at the time of the vehicle pickup. Desired Resolution: Reimbursement of $536.83

Dear Madam, Sir With this letter we want to file a complaint against invoice [protected]. We ordered a car from the Chevrolet Cruiz class. However at our arrival in the Port Elizabeth Airport on the 6 Septembre 2018, no car of this class was available. Instead we received a Toyota Avanca that we could use for 1 day. Our planning did not allow us to stay in the same place. Since it was not in our control that no car of the class we ordered was available, we agreed with the local Europcar responsible (Luzuko) that the correct car (a Nissan Almera) would be delivered to us without costs. This car was delivered to us in Plettenberg later that day. We exchanged cars and received the ticket from the Nissan Almera that Luzuko gave to the driver. In Port Elizabeth the Nissan Almera had 361 km. Since the Nissan Almera and the Toyota Avanca had driven about the same number of kilometers and have about the same fuel consumption, no fuel costs should be credited to us. Furthermore, when the Nissan was handed in at Cape Town Airport, it had driven, as I remember, about 2200 kms, and not 2450 km as mentioned on the invoice. We do not agree with the following amounts: Refuelling: R633.85 Refuelling Service Fee: R20 250 [protected]@ R3.83 p/km: R957.50 Furthermore an extra of R310 and R310 were credited on the 16 October and the 17 October respectively. Since these amounts do not show on any invoice that we have already received, it is not possible to know why these amounts were credited. Unless a valid reason can be given, these amounts should be debited back to our account. Kind Regards, Lien Veryser, Alex Degroote

Dear Sir / Madam, I am writing to you to raise an issue about: Car Rental The issue that I have experienced was: We had hired a rental car from Europcar on 13 June from Europcar Rental car at Schiphol Airport, Netherlands. On the 15 of June, we were driving on the Motor way in Germany and the accelerator pedal stopped responding. We noticed that the fuel we just filled in full was depleting and the suspected leak resulted in almost emptying the fuel tank within an hour of refilling. We somehow managed to drive the car to a nearby petrol filling gas station and reported the matter to Europcar on phone. This happened at around 15:00. After 4 and half hours of wait, at around 19:30 their representatives came with a towing vehicle and towed the car to a service station along with us. We had to wait further 2 hours at the service station for the cab to pick us up arranged by Europe car and dropped us at Frankfurt Airport at 22:30. At the Europ car office there, we got a substitute past 23:00. We also noticed that in the service history manual of the vehicle given to us was overdue for a service as the last record shows it was serviced at 35000km and we were given the car approximately at 88000. As per regulations, car rental must abide to the rules which include fully serviced car. We had specifically requested for fully serviced brand new car to which they assured at the counter that all their cars are six month old. To add more pain, we were given replacement car at Frankfurt with only 3/4th of the petrol. We were given the key at the Frankfurt airport Europcar counter and the person gave us instructions about finding the car at the parking area. We found the car but no one was there to instruct and guide us about the condition of the replacement car. We also noticed that the fuel tank was not full. We were tired and exhausted and needed to sleep after almost a full day of unfortunate events. We did a mistake of not taking a photograph of the fuel indicator. We got a shock and realized how we are being cheated by Europcar when we dropped the car at schipol airport. They told to fill the fuel to full and did not listen our painfull sorry story and how we suffered the day of breakdown. They said if the fuel tank is not full at the time of returning the car, they would charge additional 20 Euros. We had to fill the fuel at petrol station nearby schipol airport which was by far the most expensive fuel refill we did in Europe. Though the replaced car was good. The fuel cost for that car itself exceeded out budget as we lost almost a full tank of fuel from the vehicle which got faulty in germany. Then we had to forcefully fill the full tank to full instead of 3/4 just because the Europcar Frankfurt airport branch cheated us. Also the replacement car”s fuel tank was larger compared to the original car we had booked based on our tight budget. It occurred on: 15/06/2019 This meant that We panicked the first time as the pedal did not respond in the middle of a highway. All of us in the car had to wait 8 hours in total to carry on with the our journey. Since we were on holiday to Europe for a week, almost a full day was wasted waiting and panicking. As we got the substitute car after 23:00, we had to spend on hotel booking in Frankfurt. We were on our way to camping with friends in Cologne. As a result of being handed over a vehicle without performing a due service (as per the service history record file in vehicle), 3 of us who are in the vehicle rental contract had a day wasted and panicked instead of camping at Cologne. The incident caused a lot of inconvenience, panic, stress, exhaustion and nervousness that day as explained above. In contrast to camping at Cologne, we had to go through all these difficulties. Apparently we lost one full day of 7 days holiday, make an extra hotel reservation for our stay in Frankfurt, suffer from weariness and rest of the difficulties that we had to face being stranded on the road. Thus we seek compensation for the ordeal of events we went through with the after effect of giving us a unfit car to drive and thus putting our life in danger. we need to know how the rental firm is going to respond to the matter. I look forward to your prompt response on this matter. As recommended by Trading Standards, I would like to keep a complete record of my case, so please reply back via this email account. Yours faithfully, Lukman Alavi Mob: 00965 [protected] Email: [protected]@gmail.con Rental Contract reference number JP 5467 Hisham Saamsudheen, 803 Yousuf Square, Ainabda 2 Dubai 81443

The car was returned with full gas tank. Upon my return, no representative was in the parking area, and I left the kees, as requested. Dear Sir, Miss, As a regular customer from Europe car we trusted that there was no damage on the car as promised. When we picked the car in the evening, it was not on the promised spot but parked somewhere else not on the Europcar parking place.. We found the black (dirty) car in the dark and we trusted that there was no damage on the car. In the morning we discovered that there was mall damage which was already on the car! WE ARE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR THIS HOWEVER MY CREDITCARD is debet for an amount of EURO 417, 23 We have a good B&B at lake Como in Italy and the past year we advised at least 70 clients to rent a car from Europcar at Milan Malpensa airport. If we not going back our money, you are not only losing us a customer but a lot of clients in the future because we will report a very negative advise to clients and will negative reviews at Lake Como media. We trust that EUROPECAR will credit the amount back to my credit cardand the above steps are not necessary. kind regards, Tinka & Roel Helderman Oudburgerlaan 11 1852km Heiloo The Netherlands

Do NOT deal with this company. I was given a car with no spare wheel (and not advised of this) so when I had a puncture I had to wait over an hour for a pick up truck to transport me and the car (midday, no aircon!) for two hours. The car was then replaced (note the tyre note!). I then had a three hr drive back along motorway so lost the whole day. The replacement car (exactly the same model, WITH a spare wheel) had faulty air con and 3 hr drive back to airport was unbearable (37-40 degrees). Had there been a spare wheel the situation would have been resolved at the roadside and I would have replaced the spare wheel myself. Got home and Europcar had taken 198 Euros from my CC. Wrote to holiday autos who were v unhelpful (apparently there had been an “on board repair kit – like a bycicle repair kit). After months if wrangling I wrote to CEO who reimbursed me some of the amount. Id told my craedt card co. who did a recall on the money and europcar were supposed to appeal within 45 days. We heard nothing so assumed the matter had been resolved until I received a demand from a credit recovery co. in italy for the amount plus interest plus admin charges (!) or else they would take legal action. Sent copy registered to CEO holiday autos and a registered letter to Europcar Italy (who didn’t respond.) Then a further demand in June. Lastminute.com (who own holiday autos) wrote back and were quite helpful. Theyve managed to get the admin fee etc taken off but I am still having to pay the 150 Euros (although this should only work out at about 50-60 punds as already partial re-imbursement.) Absolutely disgusted with the whole process and will never deal with Europcar or holiday autos again.

Europcar agency at Lyon airport has given us a car in a bad shape, we had to change it 3 times before our journey, lost so much time… while returning the car with full tank, in good conditiions, there was no staff to take the key. Just drop the keys in a box.. After 2 weeks, they charge my credit card with 350 Euros for a serenity pack that I dont even know what it is about. I am really unhappy.. Keep sending messages. Is this the way Europcar is making money by stealing money from people? I would never rent a car again from Europcar.. what serenity in europcar became my nightmare…

Europcar charged my mastercard for damage in the form of a scratch on the bumper of the 4×4 we hired in Auckland. We did not cause this damage it would appear to be deliberate and no-one in the right mind deliberately scratches a hire car when they know they would be charged for it. They would not inspect the vehicle when we returned it, did not tell us they were charging us for any damage until I queried the amount deducted from my card. To add insult to injury the invoice was dated the day before we returned the vehicle so either they were clairvoyant or they knew they were charging us for damage they already knew was there. All in all this has the markings of a big scam – $337.00 dollars of each person who hires this vehicle is a good little earner for them. Anyone who hires EZZ311 there is damage on the rear bumper and front bumper that they will matt black out as part of their valeting process – be warned!!

Europcar has disappointed me!!! I needed a rental vehicle for the duration of my car being in the panelbeaters. Two days after having the vehicle your Randburg branch ( where I collected the car) contacted me to bring the vehicle back as it needed to be defleeted (why give me a vehicle that needs to be defleeted in the first place confuses me). After explaining to the gent that I come from the West Rand and I am not travelling to Randburg in peek hour traffic, he conseeded as it was apparently a matter of urgency and said he will meet me at Westgate Shopping Centre. I did not receive a copy of any contract when collecting the vehicle as well as again when meeting the gent at Westgate Shopping Centre. I experienced extreme fustration as I can never get hold of your Randburg branch and each consultant lets me know of different trading hours. Some tell me they open at 07:00 others say 08:00. When I needed to drop the vehicle off, I contacted the branch four times to enquire if it would be a problem if they dropped me off at Automagic Panelbeaters ( which is 4km away from your Randburg branch) the lady who greeted me at the door became sarcastic with me and told me “this is a car rental service not a shuttle service” I explained to her that if your branch answered their phones, I could have made alternative arrangements! After back and forward arguing a gentlemen conceded and dropped me off. I explained to him that I had filled the vehicle up and left the receipt in the vehicle. He said to me that its not a problem, the car will be topped up and if less than R50 I would not be charged. A few days later I got an invoice of my deposit stating that fuel has been deducted?? I emailed a gent by the name of Thabiso and I sent an attachement of fuel being deducted out of my account as that was the only proof I had and he said it would take 2-3 days for investigation. After hearing nothing from him, I emailed him twice in two consecutive days. He responded and said the Randburg branch have charged me for the fuel for the first vehicle. I feel as if I have been double charged in fuel due to Europcars incompetency. Europcar is suppose to provide a convienient survice! I feel that throughout my two weeks of needing your assistance I have been completely mistreated and inconvienienced!!! Your assistance with this ongoing battle for the double deduction would be greatly appreciated!

Europcar Hire Scam! We hired a car over a long weekend and they happily told us we were able to return it on the Monday morning even though the office was closed. They failed to mention however, that if their return car park was full, that there was another car park a few KM down the road|. So, when we returned the car on Monday, their return car park was full and so some other cars had been returned and parked on the side walk|. It seemed as if they forget to tell every one about their second car park|. When we got the invoice we saw that an extra £65 had been charged for the parking fine! There was no information anywhere on where else to park the car if it was full”. I called and argued with them, and they changed their story saying this extra fee was actually because they had found a scratch on the car! I said there was no way of telling if it was us, and it probably was someone walking by as the cars were easily accessible to passers byers”. They refunded the fee for the apparent scratch, that there was no photos of! BUT said that we would have to pay the parking fine if there was one, I asked them if they already knew about a parking fine as it had been almost 3 weeks since we had hired the car, they told me sometimes the fine takes a while to reach them:. The next Monday they had taken out £65 + 27 admin charges!!! I just don’t know where to go and what to do?! This is clearly unfair and it is obviously a scam as there is no where to park the cars, they don’t give out information about their second car park, they change the story about what the excess charges are for and then charge more and more, with out permission!

Europcar Invoice [protected] Hello, On 23.06, 11:00 I took a car from the Airport. I asked to set the return time for 12:00 on the return day. The person at the desk agreed and updated this in my contract. On 25.06 I returned the vehicle. But when I received the charge it was for 3 days instead of 2. I write a complaint on 29.06 and only received an answer yesterday! The answer was in poor English and very unclear but I understand that my claim to return the car by 12:00 was rejected. I expect that when Europcar say something they will stand by their word and not use this to trick clients out of their money. I expect to receive the 3rd day back. If this is not resolved by the end of the month I will be taking legal action and I plan to contact the relevant authorities at EU level. I look forward to your swift response. Yours sincerely, Ben Davis

Europcar Rental Agreement Number: [protected] I received a charge to my AMEX for 255E on January 10, 2020 for a supposed traffic citation incurred on August 2, 2019 in Malaga, Spain. I did not receive any evidence to support the violation with the execption of a statement from Europcar on December 25, 2019. I have requested AMEX to not may payment because I believe this charge to be fraud. If my AMEX card is charged, I want a refund. Dennis Chmiel

Europcar rented a car to me in Germany so I could drive to Poland, and rather than using my creditcard insurance coverage, I thought I would buy insurance protection from europcar for complete coverage. While in Poland a motorcyclist ran in to the car while is was stopped at an intersection as the motorcyclist was illegally trying to weave through the stopped cars. Anyway, the motorcyclist lied to the police saying we drove into him and as he and his girlfriend riding on the back of the motorcycle told the same lie, the police gave my wife who was driving a ticket. When I returned the car to Europcar in Frankfurt the attendant noted the minor damage, and since he saw that I had purchased the insurance he told me everything was okay, and that I could go. Then back in the U.S., Europcar started sending me bills for 774 euros inspite of my purchase of their insurance. Apparently, had I only used my credit card insurance I would have been completely covered, but by electing to use their insurance, my creditcard insurance is voided, and their insurance sucks. I might have been able to figure this out, if their agent had a clue, or if I read German as that is what the policy was in.

Europcar scams the customer by providing unclear information of how quickly late fees, penalties, and supposed tickets accrue. For example, I rented my car in Milan with a return at the Rome train station. Unlike the US, the rental return location is not labelled and is actually buried in a hotel parking deck. I returned the car 2 hours late, and was charged a full extra rental date, including all extra insurance that I had purchased, as well as, GPS rental. Four months later, I am now being notified of another 45 Euro charge by Europcar for a ticket which I will eventually have to pay. The car rental companies in Europe are a fraud. They continue to generate feeds from their customers. It would have been much cheaper to take the train. DO NOT RENT, YOU WILL REGRET IT and YOU WILL PAY FOR IT!

Europcar www.europcar.com Europcar (Guerin Lda) – Lisbon Airport charged me $1900.00 for damage to hire vehicle, see following detailed letter to them: I write with regard to the above contract and the monies that your company have seen fit to charge me for damage to the air conditioning of the vehicle. At 17:25 on Saturday 20th May I collected a Nissan Pathfinder (Group R) from your Lisbon Airport office and drove to my villa at Quinta da Beloura near Sintra along with three other members of my family. On Monday 22nd May the weather became warmer and we realized that the air conditioning was not working. The following day (Tuesday) the car was returned to your offices in Cascais where your representative confirmed that it was defective. Unfortunately your office in Lisbon were unable to deliver a replacement Nissan and I had to loose a half day of my holiday driving to Lisbon to exchange the vehicle. On returning to Lisbon Airport on 30th May I was told that I am to be charged a total of 2600 Euros for the repair to the air conditioning of the first vehicle. This charge is totally unacceptable as I did not cause the damage. I would ask for your consideration of the following points: 1.. The fault was reported to your nearest office as soon as we realized that the air conditioning was defective. 2.. During the time that we had the car we drove a total of 239 km, 70 km of which was driving to and from your offices in Cascais and Lisbon. The car was only used on good roads and was never taken off-road. 3.. Your representative at Lisbon Airport informed me that there was considerable damage to the underside of the vehicle causing the air conditioning to fail. He also stated that this was due to the car being used off road. The contract that I have shows the car to have considerable damage to the body prior to my hire. It states damage to right front mud guard, right front door, left front mud guard, left rear door, left rear mud guard and aerial. There were also a number of large scratches to the paintwork along the length of the car on both sides. All of this shows the car to have been damaged / driven off road prior to my hire. 4.. No additional damage other than that already described was reported by your office when the car was returned to show that I had treated the vehicle poorly. 5.. Your records will show that I have previously hired large four-wheel drive vehicles from Guerin Lda without incident. The reason for doing so is due to the increased comfort and luggage space as opposed to the vehicles four-wheel drive abilities. On this occasion the combined age of my party of four was in excess of 200 years, therefore off-road driving was of no interest. At all times I have acted in good faith and honesty regarding the initial reporting of the defect and my time taken to return the car to your Lisbon offices. It is ironic that had I not acted with such honesty the defect would not have been detected until the vehicle re-hired and I would now not be in such a position. Considering the above facts I would ask that these charges be withdrawn and that my credit card be credited with the total amount charged. The money was refunded but only I had identified and written to a number of Directors of the company and posted internet complaints with several newspapers.

Expedia and Europcar have teamed up in a foolproof scheme to defraud car renters at the St Maartin airport. It is a very effective scheme since the coompany making the fraudulent representations (Expedia) does not make the credit card charge and the companyi making the charge (Europcar) which has made no fraudulent misrepresentation. It works like this> When you get the price quote from Expedia they do not disclose that Europcar has a $8.00 per day (plus taxes) “mandatory insurance” charge. The price quote from Expedia includes the basic car rental charge and taxes and fees (no mention of the fee for the “mandatory insurance” Rxpedia also states that the rental facility desk and cars is at the airport proper. (The cleverness and impact ot this falsehood will be expllained below.) When you get to the SXM airport and go to the Europcar desk you cannot sign in. You are directed to a van which takes you to the OFF AIRPORT lot where you first learn about the mandatory insurance fee. Upon protesting they tell you that you are free to leave (of course you would have to find transportation back to the airport and try to find another rental) and they insist that if you want the car you sign the contract and take it up with Expedia. This happened to me in January 2010. I signed under duress (“duress” since I had been lured to the off airport rental facility by Expedia’s misrepresentation) convinced that either Expedia or my credit card company would protect me. When contacted, Expedia stated that it could do nothing since it had no control over Europcar, When contacted, Europcar stated that it could do nothing because it had no control over Expedia. When contacted, my bank (whose card is no longer in MY wallet) stated that it could do nothing since I had signed the credit card slip. Cool!
Europcar International Reviews & Complaints
Firstly, it took Europcar more than a month to give me a response on my authorisation charge inquiry, despite me calling and emailing on 3 separate occasions. I had to chase Europcar for an answer. Secondly, Europcar”s process of placing an authorisation charge on customers” credit card is ridiculous. When I picked up the car at Perth Airport on 18 Aug 15, a charge of AUD1, 410.74 was made to my credit card. This was the deposit plus GPS and additional driver charges. But, the very next day on 19 Aug 15, the same amount was debited back into my credit card account! When I returned the car on 31 Aug 15, a charge of AUD1, 409.74 (-$1 deposit) was made on my credit card. Becoz of the transactions on 18 and 19 Aug 15, i lost SGD98.69 due to the exchange rate. Why is there a need to debit back the amount into my account? Why can”t Europcar hold the amount until I return the car then debit back the deposit? Renee from Customer Relations Australia was defensive and stubborn by saying this is company policy and that I agreed to the terms & conditions when i signed the rental agreement. This was not what was written in the T&C: [General Rental Terms, Section 6.2 Terms of Payment]: “When payment is made by means of a credit card, an authorisation will be requested prior to the start of the rental… This amount is not debited. It is held on cardholder”s bank account until the final rental charge amount is debited.” [Prepayment Terms and Conditions]: “An authorisation will be obtained at time of rental and only on return of the vehicle will the corresponding charges be posted to the credit card.” Lastly, another charge of AUD512.38 was made on my credit card on 1 Oct 15. I did not receive any invoices, statement, or document to explain what this charge was for. When I called to get an answer, it turned out that they had keyed in my email address wrongly thus the invoice didn”t reach me. And the charge was for a small glass chip on the windscreen! When i finally received the invoice and damage report, they had spelt my name and email address incorrectly again! I have requested and have yet to receive the updated invoice and damage report as of now. This administrative lapses is outrageous and unacceptable. It is affecting my insurance claim. I”ve never been more disappointed and upset with a car rental company like this one.

For part of our family vacation to France in August 2009, I prepaid for a car for four days through Europcar”s website. On arrival in Pau, France, I walked over a mile from the train station to the agency where I was informed my car had been given to someone else because I was late. When I expressed my shock at the deception and asked whether a car would be available the next day, the agent then proceeded to berate me for my tardiness and informed me that as an American I needed to accept that I was in France and must adjust my expectations and attitude. When I asked whether he could help me find a car through a different agency, he stated there were no rental cars available anywhere in the south of France. Finally, the truth! He obviously was offerered more money by someone else and took it. All of this is in direct violation of Europcar”s printed Online Terms and Conditions which state, 8.2 Credit Card Details Provided – Guaranteed Reservation Hold: If you specified at time of booking your debit, credit or charge card details and Driver ID (or your Driver ID only in which card details are stored) the Europcar pick up station is required to provide the requested vehicle category until the station closure or up to 12:00 (noon) the day following the due pick up time for 24/7 stations. Their agreement also stated the agent should have offered some minimal level of assistance in dealing with the problem of now being stranded in a foreign city. Instead he rudely left the counter turning his back to me and left me to walk back to the train station where my family was waiting. He wouldn”t even offer to call a cab for me or try to find a nearby hotel. When we finally got into a hotel that evening, I lodged my complaint on Europcar”s website. They responded with an automated email and a supposedly real email address. I have sent several requests for a refund to this email address only to receive another automated response indicating receipt of my complaint, an assigned “file number”, and a statement that I would have an answer in a few days. Two months later there is still no reply nor an attempt to rectify their misdeed. This is not a reputable company. They have no concept of customer service and they refuse to honor the terms of their agreements. Plus they use misdirection to shield themselves from dialog with their customers.

FYI: Since Easyjet launched I have used the airline numerous times for both leisure and business travel and having a career in the travel industry have favoured and recommended the airline. However, after my car hire experience in Cagliari, Sardinia on the 29th May 2009 my opinion has changed. On arrival at the Europcar rental office at the airport I was informed by both of the employees at the desk that there were no available cars. Please find the attached back up of my confirmation with their handwriting and stamp on the top right hand corner. There was no solution given to me by the two men at Europcar. All car hire rental companies had no extra cars and it would not be possible for me to have a car at any time during my 4 night stay. The reason given was cars that were supposed to arrive on a boat from Iceland had not arrived in time. They also informed me that Easyjet was informed of this issue three days prior to my arrival. This completely affected our holiday as I had planned a driving tour of the southern part of the Island with different stops on each night. A car was an essential part of our holiday. We did ask at the other car rental companies and were told they only had enough cars for their own clients. As we were without a car and our first hotel was over 60 kilometres away we were advised by Europcar staff that the only solution was to travel to the resort by taxi and to reclaim the expense of all taxis we used during the four days. Page 2. Enclosed are the receipts for taxis:- 27th May 2009 Cagliari, Sardinia to Tanka Village Resort 100 euro 1st June 2009 Tanka Village Resort to Cagliari 90 euro 2nd June 2009 Cagliari to Cagliari Airport 22 euro TOTAL: 212 euro On arrival to the Tanka Village Resort, I noticed that the resort had its own Europcar Office and I asked the man who ran the Office if they had any cars available. I was told that there was a big conference on the island and Europcar had known for some time that there would be a shortage and he had only just managed to cover his booking list. Again, there was no available car under my reservation. At the hotel Reception, we discussed our three day driving route and the Assistant Manager of the Resort was very helpful but said that without a car we would have to pay 100s of euros to get between locations and also it would be impossible to get taxis to take us to some of our planned locations. Due to this, instead of one night at the Resort, we had to extend by a further two at a cost of 464.80 euro. The hotel invoice is enclosed. We also had to cancel two of the hotels we had booked for the nights of the 30th and 31st May and I am still waiting to see if the cost has been refunded to my credit card but believe I will be charged non arrival charges. As you can see, my not being able to pick up the rental car I booked on May 7th via the Easyjet Website had serious repercussions on both my holiday plans and financially. I would appreciate you giving this matter your urgent attention to my satisfaction. My confidence in booking a car through Easyjet has been severely compromised due to the above experience, and I really am not sure that I can reliably use and recommend the service in the future.

Germany, Nuremberg, North europcar office.the car ordered via economycar rentals (cheaper sub-contractor)-now they work with europcar. Excess protection purchased via economycar. I have stated very clearly to eropcar representative when picking the car up that I DO NOT need excess waiver. She has special pin with Britain flag, implying she understands, at least simple, English words. After all, hurrying up, I did not check the receipt. When returning the car, nobody to speak with. Blunt europcar representative does not understand straight logical arguments. They took my economycar voucher with all payment details on the 1st day, and when I returned the car they said that the voucher has gone. yes, after 9 days. Now dealing with company customer service, wasting my time. 1st time such a bad experience with seemingly western company. Having booked through Travelocity, we picked up our rental car from Copenhagen and dropped it off at Frankfurt airport 3 days later. Europcar helped themselves to 2 extra days rental fee and insurance charges, which amounted to nearly $400 U.S. They sent us an invoice claiming that we had returned the car 2 days after we flew out of Europe! We tried to resolve through Travelocity first and then American Express, and to our disappointment, neither company seemed to try too hard when faced with Europcar stonewalling with explanations that didn”t even add up. I don”t understand how a company like this could be Europe”s largest rental car company. Do not use Europcar and if you use an intermediary insist that they do not use Europcar.

Having taken our credit card details, Europcar helped themselves to an extra days rental fee. They sent us an invoice claiming that we had collected the car whilst still flying over Belgium and returned the car more than a day late when we’d been home for nearly a day! Europcar are stonewalling and lying to our Credit Card company who don’t seem to be trying too hard for us. Having scoured the internet it seems that kind of practice is widespread within Europcar. It is probably even in their business plan! Do not use Europcar and if you use an intermediary insist that they do not use Europcar.

Hello, I have requested a copy of my invoice for reservation number: [protected], name: andreea popescu, reservation period: 18-19 june, ra/contract: [protected] to be sent by email and seeing the company information was not correct, I have requested another copy with corrected information Instead my account was charged an extra 2 times the same amount (500+ euros) without my approval or without notifying me!! As per statement of return, the car had no extra damage. The amount as per invoice, was already charged once on 19 june upon return of vehicle. The bank had notified me that on 20 june, europcar tried to charge my account an extra 700+ euros, no justification, no invoice, but the bank fortunately rejected the attempt. Sadly for me, on 04 july, unapproved and without any notification my account was charged 2 amounts summing up more than 1100 euros. If they were fines, I have to be notified, if there was any issue, I have to be notified, etc.. I was not, so in my opinion my money was stolen by europcar. Please justify and correct these transactions immediately – refund my money! And send me the corrected invoice as soon as possible. Andreea popescu

Hi, As many time before in Europcar, I booked a car from 11-14 January. The pick up location and return location were in Podgorica, Montenegro. I received a confirmation mail with the Booking confirmation No. [protected] and with all conditions for this booking. One of the things which was not included in the price was a deposit in the amount of 755.61 EUR. I was ready to pay that deposit like many times before, but the problem occurred when I came to pick up the car. Namely, instead of asking 755.61 euro for deposit, I was asked to pay 3.500 euro! This was totally unacceptable for me and I had to cancel my trip to Croatia, since there were no other cars to rent that day in other rent a car companies. In order to avoid situations like this in the future, and in order to avoid pressing charges against Europcar for not being in compliance with the conditions from the offer, I would kindly ask you to find a proper solution for this inconvenience. I will need to rent a car again in February (7-12) and I dont’t want to come again in the same situation like now. If you don’t find a proper solution, I will have no other options but to press charges against your company.

Hi, I have been overcharged by Europcar and I am having issues getting them to refund the money. Please find a breakdown of all cost below: Rental (14 days) : R3531.72 Damage waiver : R1708.00 (Was not informed of and did not agree to this charge) Theft waiver : R1260.00 (Was not informed of and did not agree to this charge) Fuel : R317.25 Additional driver : R220.00 Contract fee : R45.00 Tourism Levy : R35.32 Airport Surcharge : R353.17 Total : R7470.46 When we arrived at the Europcar office Europcar did not have the car that we reserved. The agent offered us a cheaper car at our inconvenience as it was a smaller car and it had a manual transmission. The agent quoted a new price for us which was cheaper than the car we originally booked, she informed us of the additional charges and gave us the final price which we agreed to (Approx R3, 500 + Tourist Tax + Airport Tax + additional driver), it did not include the charges that I want Europcar to refund (Damage waiver and theft waiver). A few days after the booking off the car I got a phone call from the Europcar agent saying that they needed me to sign another agreement as my credit card did not come out correctly on the original rental agreement. She was quite pushy and did not give me many details as to why I had to sign another rental agreement I tried to arrange that I sign the new rental agreement on my return with the car but she said this was not possible. I waited in the apartment for the agent to arrive (she arrived late) when she arrived I just signed the new rental agreement as I had already waited too long for this person and had made plans for the day. I feel this just looks like a big scam to me and also I am not happy with the customer service Europcar have provided me with to date, this matter has gone on too long (89 days since collecting the car at the Europcar office). I travel regularly for business and for pleasure I have used Europcar before in UK, Spain and France but nothing like this has happened to me before. The price which they have charged me is more than I would pay in any other European country it is scandalous. Can you please help me with this matter? Once I noticed this inflated charge on my credit card I complained straight away. Since then I have been bounced from person to person in Europcar. I have not had any constructive response to date and I am becoming more and more frustrated usually it will take at least 1 week minimum for Europcar to respond to my mails. Thank you, Cathal

Hi, this is to report that Europcar has been processing my refund request/claim for almost one month and has yet to provide meaningful feedback or engage with me for details. This all started when their call centre and so called roadside assistance left us stranded on our way from Naples to the Amalfi Coast. We had not been in the rental car for more than two hours when the clutch broke and the vehicle was no longer driveable. We contacted Europcar immediately when we had the issue and the call centre undertook to return our call. Which never came for six hours. Do not use Europcar EVER!!!

Hi. Why should I ever rent a car from Europecar again? I rented a Golf registration nr 0661HRM Keddy voucher nr [protected], [protected]:00 from Barcelona. I was surprised to get a car in such a bad condition to start with! Automatic first gears was not in the best condition, and things just fall off, back shelf, door handle . And it got worse in the morning 11/7 the rear gear gave up and we were stuck in a hotel garage in Andorra. We were going from Andorra to Tarbes, Pau and Biarritz in France. That did not happen! We got towed to a garage by 24 h road service. 5hours of total confusion, 1h on the phone ( 80cent/ minute) then got transport back to Spain, Lleida and a new car. My complains are Why did take it so long time to get a new car? I missed one days traveling and we had to change route, and how could you rent out a car like that? I want compensation! Hired a car at Glasgow airport. It was dirty. It had had an accident to the passenger front wheel and mirror and duco. It was noted. I returned it two weeks later after only driving on tarmac roads and having no accidents and was promptly charged for a new tyre (as was the driver behind me). It was noted on the invoice that there had been damage when I picked it up and when I inquired whether the car was meant to have had a new tyre put on in Glasgow I was told “yes”. However, there was no new tyre on the car. I have emailed customer service with no reply as yet. Is their profit so low that they have to resort to charging two customers for the same tyre? I always used to use Europcar all over tyhe world. I will not be using Europcar again. What an end to a nice holiday!

Hired a car from Thessaloniki airport and the agent handling our booking would not allow our family to hire the car unless we paid 300 euro for damage insurance. (to remove excess cost in event of damage) I shows him my annual excess reimbursement insurance policy for such events but he said that we are in Greece and in Greece that insurance is not accepted. He was very aggressive in “selling” the insurance and in the end we paid as we had to get going to catch a ferry crossing. Not happy about this at all and expect a full refund. Happened on the 12th August 2016. Reservation No. [protected]

Hired a car last month from Charles de Gaulle Airport and when I went to pick it up I was advised the model selected was not available and was offered an automatic instead of manual gearbox with a surcharge of 180 Euro which I agreed to. When I got to the car I realised that it was not. After raising issue, numerous emails/phone calls I was reimbursed the 180 Euro only to discover that at the same time as the reimbursement was been processed my account was debited 331 Euro for some damage to the car. No details about where or what the damage was supposed to be. After complaining I was advised of some supposed scratches to rear of car. I have provided Europcar with dated photos showing these scratches as pre-existing damages and despite emails and phone calls I am still waiting reimbursement more than a month later. Customer service can be described as a series of empty catch phrases with no action. On reading other reviews it seems to be part of Europcar business model. Beware.

I am complaining about money being taken fraudulently from my NAB (National Australia Bank) Visa card. On 1 Dec 2017 Europcar helped themselves to my money without my authorisation ($29.99 – AUD). I rented a BMW car from 4 Sep to 14 Sep 2017 at Oliver Tambo Airport. I paid in full. I left SA on 15 Sep 017 and came back to SA. Why is money still being taken from my account? I demand an immediate refund and if Europcar dare help themselves to my money ever again, I will sue you for theft and make it very public how dodgy Europcar is. I am also instructing my bank to make the necessary enquiries. My name is Aletta Jeanne Harrison (Cell. +[protected]) and I live in 17 Windsor Place, St Ives Chase, NSW, Australia, 20175. My son did the online booking. His name is M.J. Botha and his e-mail address is m.j.[protected]@hotmail.com. I no longer have the car rental details as I did not expect Europcar to simply help themselves to my money three months later. My e-mail: jeanne.[protected]@outlook.com.au. I ma unable to attach a PDF of my credit card statement. You may want to improve your Complaint Registration Form to accept PDF’s of bank statements.

I am disgussted first of all with the customet service that was provided when i landed to sarajevo airport. The flight was 22 hours and as soon as i got there i went to Europcar to finally sort out my rental car for the month. Unfortunately as i got to the line the lady saw my fiance was with cash and immediately started to say to him you have to pay for all these things. Firstly he had to pay for the rental car and then another insurance deposit and then on top of that she blocked his card and said he will get the money back after he returns the car. My partner and i had a budget and the ladies feedback was you have cash and money. How disgusting is that? She then continued with attitude and lied about everything in terms of returning the money. We also had a car wifi that we added into the package . The wifi worked for three days and stopped. I returned back to the airport as my inlaws were comming and returned the wifi and was given a new one and was told this would work, sadly it worked for three days and stopped . I had to buy extra credit as the wifi did not work, i was travelling everywhere in Bosnia and to have paid for “car wifi” you would think it work but no it didnt. I continued to email and contact Europcar in regards to this no one wanted to respond and everyone ignored the situation. My trip came to an end and i was comming back to Sarajevo and i wanted to speak to the manager in regards to the wifi and wanting my money back . The managers response was “i dont have time for this i have work to do” the manager for Europcar Sarajevo did not want to help refund or do anything but take my money. He was very quick to take money for petrol and other stuff but did not care about his customer and how unhappy they were. He also said to my fiance and i to wait for the consultant to come who served us, mind you my flight was at 12 and the lady by the name Anela dupovac started at 12. I was charged more than expected, i was left with not a lot of money and was informed i would get my money back and never did. It has being a month since i have being contacting Europcar about my refund and no one would respond until several emails. I was told it was because of the bank and three weeks later apparently the bank returned my money. However they havent as i continue to look at my account every day. Till this day i stress and continue to contact Europcar and no one wants to help or returned my money. It has come to the point i would like to sue the company due to misleading and fraud. I have emailed several times for evidence that my money has being returned i cant even get that. If i cant get any sort of help i will do anything in my power to close this company down. I will sue and will complain and protest about how i was missleaded, tricked and forced to pay and do something that was out of control . All the money that had to be paid for the car including the Wifi no one wants to return, my finaces card was blocked for some reason and was told i would get it back. I am aboslutly disgusting with how bad Europcar in Bosnia Sarajevo is and i have had enough . I want some refund back or i will take this further, if Europcar Bosnia dont want to answer my emails and i have to sit here in Australia stress more about my refund then i will do anything to take you guys down. Thanks

I am writing an email to complain about my recent car reservation which I picked up on 6th of August from Nice airport. I wanted to drive Alfa Romeo as I have driven that car before many times and booked that car specifically but I didn”t get that car. I understand that sometimes you guys won”t have the car so you have to change it to similar one. The similar cars for the one I booked was Audi/Mercedes/BMW… I asked the staff if they have any one of those to replace the one I booked but the staff said they don”t have anyone of those either and offered me some other cars. So I end up getting Vauxhall. I understand someone you guys are running low on cars because of holiday season. So I was happy to take the Vauxhall and finished all the paperwork. As I was about to leave there was another customer who wanted to change his car and asked if they have an Audi car. The staff member checked and said they have when the staff who was serving me said they don”t have any left. I felt really neglected and felt I received a poor customer service. I felt like he was discriminating and in some point I felt like he was discriminating coz of my race and maybe coz I look young too. They gave an Audi to the white guy who came after me and they told me they don”t have any left. It clearly shows that they didn”t want to give me the car I booked which is a really bad service. The amount of time I have booked cars with europecar I have never experienced anything like this before. Even if they don”t have the car I have booked they have always upgraded the car they gave me in exchange not downgraded. It was really not a good experience for me. I hope you will sort this problem out and do something about it. Hope to hear back from you Many thanks Lakpa
Europcar International Reviews & Complaints
I booked a car online, deliberately excluding personal accident insurance, and then when I collected my car late at night, I was told where to sign by the agent, and he obviously deceitfully included personal accident insurance at an additional R30 per day (which I would have included when I booked the car if I wanted it!) and so when I got my bill at the end of my car hire stay, it was over R300 more than I was quoted. I am very angry at the deceitful way Europcar take advantage of late check outs to get more money and they have broken my trust. I will never use them again.

I booked a car through AutoEurop, I picked up a car at Europcar during business hours. ( The office was open ) and on returning found a charge for After hour pick-up : 60 Euros. I disputed the charge but found the invoice given to me at pick-up was actually for that very charge. I never looked at the invoice. They promise on their site that you only pay for what they quote you. This is just not true, look at their airport charges and daily charges, always extra. Daniel Arias, Victoria, BC

I booked a car to pick up at Europcar of the Geneva airport (French side) with EconomyBookings.com. I picked up the car at 9 am of June 10th (see photo attached). According to the proof of reservation, I had to pay 36.71 euros on arrival, but they wanted to charge me 45 euros. I showed them my proof of reservation and the representative of Europcar told me that I should not have booked with EconomyBookings, as they retain some part of the rental price. I insisted that the proof of reservation stated a different price and I shower her the document and she told me to go to the end of the queue until she attend all the other customers first. I told her that I came first to the others and I wanted my problem solved, so then she started to scream at the front office saying that she was alone there and that I had to complain with customers service. I ended up paying the wrong price and I was treated by this very indelicate person that has to idea how to deal with customers. Her name was Mina, according to what she said to me. As a customer I do not see this as normal and I fell injured by this representative of Europcar. This is an experience to not repeat.

I booked a van over the phone. I called a few days in advance for a qoute and to check avaialbility, and was told only a few hours notice was required. I called again on the day I needed the van, booked it for collection at East Midlands Airport and got a booking number. When I arrived at the station the lady took my details and said they don”t have vans at airports! She told me I could cancel my booking and then either leave without a car or rent a different one. The only one they had available and allowed for under-25 drivers was a Seat Altea. We were moving house and had no choice, so I took the car but it was smaller and so much more difficult to pack! We didn”t manage to move all our belongings before the deadline, and we had to make more trips anyway, so we wasted a lot of time as well as money. I have to say the lady at the airport office has been great and very helpful, but the booking centre clearly messed it up! What should I do now? Any advice? Thanks

I rented a car from Europcar El Calafate, Argentina. I planned on driving over to Chile for a few days and returning to Argentina. But due to the pandemic break out, Argentina closed their borders and shortly after so did Chile. We had no option but to return the vehicle to the nearest Europcar in Chile, Punta Arenas. Europcar Chile said we should not worry as it is out of everybody’s control what is happening, and so it is.
We returned the car earlier than what we would have needed to and flew to Balamaceda, Chile where we rented another car from Europcar for more than a month. We had great service from Europcar Balmaceda with no issues. I have spent a lot of money on renting cars from Europcar and specifically decided to use Europcar due to being an international company. I would have considered smaller companies if I knew that Europcar had the same way of scamming their customers.
Upon my return to the UAE and being able to see my Credit Card Statement I saw a huge amount deducted from my credit card. I queried this with Europcar El Calafate and indeed it was them who deducted
US$1 665 from my Credit Card without authorisation.
This is totally unacceptable.
Nobody can be held responsible for what a government decides to do in these situations. Airlines, Cruise Ships, Hotels all had to refund their customers. How can Europcar just decide on this deduction with no consideration for the situation?
I trust you will consider this situation unpresidented and refund the unauthorised deduction.
I will go to great lengths to make everybody aware of unfair dealings at Europcar if this is not resolved. I work in a big multi national company and will make it known on all our platforms to be aware when dealing with Europcar. All social media outlets will be used to maximise exposure to this as well.
