Last Chrismas I had to send a gift to my parents and wanted to share a collage of photos and the cards. One of my colleagues recommended me to visit Evin Thayer Studios. So, I went there with my wife and kids. Initial discussion and the photo session was fine, but everything fell apart when the time came to look at photos and choose a package. I chose a special vacation package. Adding tones to my pictures has never been a problem in the past, but today, when I asked to make one of my pictures look black and white and demanded a Santa coloured hat, the newly appointed manager said he has never done that before. I told him I had been here four months ago with Barb, the old employee, and he did it without a problem but he insisted he has never seen that before. I asked if he could contact Barb to check, but he refused straight away. I saw a picture on the wall of the right tone and showed him a still too as a reference but again he said he did not know how to do it. I asked his name and then he said he would call another studio owner and find out how could it be done. This is not the way a manager must act or respond to a customer. Anyhow, I continued to choose photos for my package and when I arrived at the gift card (part of the package) the employee did not know how to incorporate the gift in the package deal, so he called his manager in for help. The manager also could not find out the solution. Then he recommended me to have an extra 8”x10” sheet for making the frame for photos. I made an additional payment for 8” x 10” frame, which I needed to replace the Christmas cards. This time, the employee did it without a problem, but when it was time to complete the package, he told me that he can not do it. I was very disappointed and wanted to leave the studio in a second but I did not leave because I wanted to send the photos and Christmas cards before Christmas. Finally, we finished making the “right” package after a couple of hours. When I stepped into the front desk, I had to stand there for 20 minutes waiting for the manager. The manager arrived and started calculating the costs manually as their computer was not working. He gave me the final receipt and also told me that the photos would be ready by December 11, but the 8”x10” frame for collage and Christmas cards might be late.
New management has made this place even worst. The lobby was not warm and friendly. The staff was not helpful and polite. Welcome sofas and magazines were not enough for all ages. Photographers and staff were also not good at toddlers and babies. It did not appear as a family-friendly studio. The photo rotation was very slow. Above all, Evin Thayer Studios was not affordable too. I will not recommend this studio to friends and family anymore!
