They promise to help you and guide you through what is the toughest job. Yes, of course, one needs a lot of efforts and hard work to get shifted from one place to another. The same is not a matter of joke and will never be. The things we have and the level of attachment we have for that is really something which is meant to be preserved for as long as we can and a single mistake in shifting and if we get loss of any such thing, the same kill us every day. Every memory lost is a moment never lived. We never want to lose that moment and for this, we need to be very protective of our needs.
Same was all explained in a clear manner to the workers I received from extraspace but still man, they never took my word seriously. Not only this, but I also saw that things were all pushed in there the carriers in a very inappropriate manner. All of it made me feel so bad but then when I raised a complaint the company didn’t even care to look after this matter. It was really the worst help taking, even not just this, they also ignored my words. I was even charged extra even when so much of help was not needed. a few km away thing and they wasted my whole day. I was kept waiting for long and had to even pay extra rent for the day just because the owner didn’t allow me to stay there one day extra free of cost.
I will never recommend their services to anyone out there and will request that everyone who is planning out to think before what you are asking for and even if you do, discuss it properly and completely and discuss the pay at the start. This will be better for sure.
Last June, 2013 I rented a storage
Last June, 2013 I rented a storage unit from Extra Space Storage located in Milford, Ct. I made regular payments until November, 2013 when I became very ill and had to be in the hospital. I have documentation of this from the hospital and my doctor. After being discharge from the hospital I made a payment to E.S.S. on December 11, 2013, and told them of my condition. I made another payment on January 4, 2014. I will be the first one to admit that I did not make payment on February 7, 2014 and March 7th. Being out of work for that length put me behind. Last week, on March 25 th I received a check, from Extra Space Storage Coporate office for $275.00 for my unit that was sold at auction on March 20, 2014. After receiving this check I immediately called and was not given any assistance. They told me they sent out a certified letter on February 11th but it was returned undeliverable. I never received or signed for a certified letter. The post office in Monroe did not leave a card stating I had Certified letter waiting for me and I called the post office and they had no record of this letter. I have spoken to the district manager and when I told him about my situation he told me he would call the person who bought my unit. He called the next day and told me everything including my personal belongings, pictures of my children, family photos were sold by the person who bought the unit. This whole situation is devastating. My whole life was in that unit. Why would a person who didn’t care for their things make a payment in January? I did some looking into on the internet about this company, and it am not the only one this has happened too. My unit contained many antiques and valuables in addition to my personal belongings. I have spoken to manager, district manager, and Coporate office and everyone has a different story without any similarities. Please look into this company, there were stories on the Better Business of Connecticut of people losing entire units the night before moving out their items, rates increasing without notice and the list goes on. I am a teacher with the Town of Trumbull for the last 26 years. I have a strong reputation and know I have been wronged. I am amazed that no one has sued this company over their practices. I have to tell you I am going to pursue legal action. My biggest issue with this is that I was not informed of this auction so I could have stopped it. I could have asked a family member to help me out. I was given no warning. My furniture, antiques, and other items mean nothing to me, but my pictures of my kids and family, the ABC embroidered picture my mom made, my daughter and son’s baby items mean the world to me! A laid back pleasant staff who is not interested in providing outstanding service. 1. When received quote over phone, no mention of additional insurance fees. 2. Free use of truck took weeks to book in advance & when I drove to location to pick up reserved truck, it was damaged and unavailable. NO PHONE CALL TO ME TO CANCEL MY RESERVATION. I TOOK OFF WORK AND ARRANGED MY ENTIRE WEEK AROUND THAT RESERVATION. 3. The employees could use some surprise visits by undercover ratings customers sent by headquarters. It’s not that anyone is rude, it’s that they clearly have no interest in being really good at the service they provide. I am completely dissatisfied each time I visit this location. I will search for a new storage space with another company.

About 4 months after I moved into a self storage unit at Extra space storage in LA I started having problems with them. When I went on line to pay the 5th month’s bill, the charge was higher than it is supposed to be! The system would not take the correct payment, only the new fee, over 5% higher! I called the company and got the run around and basically told that their standard practice is to jack the rate every 5 or so months. He claimed that I had gotten a notice (I had not), and basically told me tough luck, no apology, nothing. I finally found out after hours on the phone and being treated like crap by everyone I spoke with, that there supposedly is a glitch in their computer that it didn’t give me adequate notice, and that the extra payment would be credited to my next bill (sounds like a line given to those that catch them charging more, to me). I was treated rudely, told lies and am thoroughly disgusted with extra storage. To add insult to injury when I moved out (found more space cheaper elsewhere) they were very rude and the manager (don’t remember her name) was a true ###. Would suggest you try other storage companies, especially local ones. I have found one that is much cheaper than the pre-increase price I was paying, and am promised they don’t raise rates every few months. There are so many alternatives, use a company that appreciates your business and wont jack your rate constantly with out notice!! With the rude treatment and jacking the rent over 5% in less than 5 months in a time when rents and salaries are going down and fast… I think that in the interest of truth in advertising this company should change their name to either extra rude storage or extra rate storage. There are a lot of alternatives that wont jack your rents in less than 5 months, and will be courteous and treat the customer like a valued asset not a piece of crap… I suggest you look further and don’t rent there!

Between being told there was a no choice insurance policy, then later finding out a waiver could be signed, and the on site manager decideing to give her hold a bath 30 min before closing time so that the line of people could not pay thier dues, or the fact that I was told by Shay, that because what’s owed to me was less then 15$, They would not be refunding it to me and it’s a company policy. My review would be to RUn as fast as you can from this company. Oh and apparently gone are the days when a customer is rewarded for loyalty, I understand rates increse… But allmost 10$ a month?

Building code violations. Health & Safety issues and violations at certain branch (es). April 11, 2017 Their branches in Orange County, CA are under staffed. In paeticular, Extra Space Storage, 511 S. Grand Ave., Santa Ana, CA 92705 branch: 1. Currently there is only 1 staff member there; just the Asst. Mngr. – no onsite Manager, no janitor or maintenance person; just 1 person doing it all while gate hours are 6 am to 10 pm. This is not the 1st time. It has happened many times the Asst Manager only employee there doing everything until off at 6-6:30 pm. 2. People (renters and non renters) unlawfully live inside rented and vacated storage units, living inside units for months some times before any complaint to Extra Space management is even looked into or person evicted. 3. There has been an ongoing rodent problem there at this facility for over 1 1/2 years. Several renters complained or moved out. Names furnished upon requests. 4. Areas at facility”s outside units stink of feces and urine from people dumping human urine there that dump in front of other peoples rented storage units D122 thru D114 and urine dumped in the roadway in front of outside storage units. 5. This facility was managed and maintained better when a manager named Chelsea worked there. She did regular patrols and kept druggies, squatters, low lifes & rodents away or at bay. 6. Good renters are getting their belongings contaminated by horrible odors from mice feces and urine, and by human urine waste improperly or unlawfully disposedvof there. The urine odors do not come off everything – especially the rubber items, papers and likewise items. Your belongings get corrupted, contaminated and some of your belongings has to get thrown away. Extra Space isn”t reimbursing for your losses. 7. The gate hours of 6 am to 10 pm is allowing squatters and low lifes, especially when a facility is under staffed or if the employees don”t do their job or care about people living inside storage units there. It would be better if facility closed gate (s) at 8 pm and survelliance cameras inside buildings to prevent or capture squatters, drug dealers, burglars. 8. Renters” rent payments dropped off in mail slot have been known to mysteriously disappear, never to be found. This causes ID theft worries and a person forced to close bank account (s), plus the expense of ordering new checks to new bank acct. 9. Contacting corporate office is a waste of time. When you ask for Legal Dept., the response is “there is no Legal Dept.”. The same scenario when you ask for Customer Service or to speak to anybody in authority there. You get the response “I”m sorry but nobody here can speak with you and you cannot leave a voice mail, not do we have any email address or phone number to give you to speak to anybody in authority here.” 10. Wish I knew this 2 years ago when I spent close to $2, 000 moving a house and garage full of stuff into storage units at Extra Space. 11. Years ago Extra Space was a defendant in a class action. That should have been a red flag. 12. Now my belongings are imprisoned in the storage units because the human urine dumpages smell so strong outside the units doors. The urine odors contaminate &/or destroy your belongings if you open your unit doors and expose them to the urine odors outside your door. 13. I would not recommend this storage facility to anyone. It”s all about Extra Space having deaf ears, giving deceptive ads and false promises, and making money off the public, to keep their shareholders happy. 14. Renters insurance does not cover negligence or damage intentional from human waste dumping that damages your property or belongings, that is allowed or overlooked by business or its employees, by any unlawful squatting, people living in storage units at such Storage facility.

Don”t rent from here ever Very disappointed with how this operation is run. I moved my inventory to this location just under a month ago. I expressly told them that I would be using the storage for business. There were and still are many items that I have in stock that are not properly inventoried and I have been spending more time there than even I had wanted. None the less, I had not been told that there would be limits as to the time I was allowed to be there when I signed up, decided to spend 100s of dollars to rent a truck, take 5 days off of work to facilitate the move. The first time It was suggested to me (remember i just moved under a month ago) that maybe I shouldn”t spend so much time there., to which I thought they were kidding because if anyone wanted to get out of there it was me but this is work. The second time, I had been taking photos to list some items and a staff member, in his infinite wisdom, proceeded to give me suggestions on how I could achieve my goals by perhaps lessing my time at the facility. This condescending approach to customers and their affairs is right about at my limit for what I feel to be tolerable. I was there a lot, , I had a lot to do and most if not all had to be done on site. I was frustrated at this point, feeling I was doing the best I could.At the same time, I didn”t get into running my own business to be micromanaged by pretentious, invasive staff making me feel bad about doing exactly what I had told them upon signing, I would be doing. This isn”t my first storage unit, and I have never had this issue before. The only reason I ever move is because eventually the rent gets raised above what I want to pay. This is the best part, i payed 7 days early, in cash, only to get an email saying thank you for your payment of $0 followed by today, when no less than an hour after getting there my manager, oh no im sorry, I work for myself, The employee so keen on knowing what is and isn”t necessary for my business comes up to me to advise me that I have 72 hours to vacate. WHAT!!! I ask why, Im told that the decision has been made by the district manager, patty and tells me they will refund my payment. I ask him again why and this is what I was told: 1: I spend to much time there (unreasonable amount of time is the supposed violation. who decides what unreasonable is unknown as it is not detailed in the lease or anywhere else for that matter, they also said I was Loitering which I found hysterical as the sole reason of my being there is to get work done, I took smoke breaks every few hours maybe that was it.) 2: I come after I know the office is closed when I know noone is there 3: when moving from an extraspace up the street I “stole” a cart and left it at there facility. #1 I think I have already addressed #2 If I make a sale or need to post a package in the morning ill come anytime between 6-10 like the access hours my lease specified allows me. The Idea that I care at all what their schedule is, is beyond me. I am far to busy with my own crap to worry about what there offices hours are. Furthermore It to me suggests they think im doing something inappropriate after there offices hours which with an onsite livei-n manager who patrols the facility during all hours, would be of concern. The fact is, he never got around to explaining that part after I continuously asked what was wrong with being there during the posted access times #3 the most inconsequential but my favorite, I had asked the manager when I had rented my truck, if dollys got switched would that be an issue. I was told no, it would not. I will fully admit that at the end of it all, there may have been a +1 at this location at the end of it all a matter that I would have happily resolved had it been brought to my attention (I dont know how many dollys there should be) Instead I get a head shake as if I just farted in church shame shame shame WOW Great customer service. To wrap it up, as far as I can tell extraspac”s lease dose allow for operator to terminate at will for any reason WITH A 15 DAY WRITTEN NOTICE. a 72 hour notice to vacate is a made up policy and illegal in CA. The only applicable 72 hour notice would be for a timeframe in which you would need to Pay, or correct a violation of your lease, such as “you have 72 hours to remove the 20 gallon drums of gasoline from your unit as it violates your leasing agreement to not store flammables or face eviction.” When I spoke with the District manager, Patty, she had no interest in hearing what I had to say and was more concerned on how and when I was leaving. when I asked how, after 2 comments from staff about how much time I spend there, that they just jump to eviction. (I took the comments as requests as I had seen nothing in the lease about a limit in terms of time spent there) She said they had no obligation to give me any warning. GREAT POLICY. This company does not have your interests at the top or even in there list. I still have not received my refund, im told i must be out by the 5th of NOV. NONE of this has be documented and I have received nothing in writing. I will be requesting the formal paperwork so I will maintain my legal rights to go after them for the cost of a moving truck. I was lied to, told this was the place for me, spent $500 moving my stuff here and setting it up for my business only to be informally evicted. Its Sad, the review before mentioned that he was comforted by his partner only to be spurned by staff. I had not thought anything of it but I had given my partner a hug after he had dropped off some things only the day before I was asked to leave. I haven”t pursued a discrimination angle but the vagueness of their alleged violation coupled with a sudden change in their evaluation of my business there leads me to think that Daniel is not the only one. Got a unit at the Everett, MA store on 10/09. Went to pay my monthly fee on-line for the Month of March 2010 and saw my rate had increased 10%! Went straight to the office and the manager told me they do a “revision” every 5 Months on the market and adjust the rate based on it. Ridiculous!! Also, he said they sent me a letter in the mail stating the rate increase, which they DID NOT! Pure Lie! So, basically I will have a rate increase of 20% per year. If you want to get ripped off: go with Extra Space. They do everything to get you in, but they don’t tell you anything after you move!

I don’t complain about companies–I try to give the benefit of the doubt. But I resent the way I was treated by this one. When I signed up, I gave them my credit card number, my phone number, and my email. I thought the payment would be automatically made each month. When I went to put some of my belongings in storage, I found a new lock on the unit. I called the customer service line and leanred that my account was past due! I never got any notification–just the lock on the door. Since it was Sunday, there was no one working who could help me. It really messed up my plans. I paid immediately and was told they could probably get the lock off the next day–have called and not yet received a call back. Please do things the easy and nice way, Extra Space! Just call the number the customer has given you to clear things up–it will save you an unnecessary walk to put on an unnecessary lock. Grrrr.

While they did mention periodic price increases for maintenance etc., I had the strong impression that these would be infrequent and that they would top out – not so! I had been at the Auburn Blvd. facility in Sacramento for two months when I discovered what the manager and employees already had known for months prior —- they hadn’t maintained their units and a number of them were leaking from the roof – in fact, one could easily see after (or during) a rain which units were affected by the runout under the rollup doors. However, they never told the tenants until they themselves discovered it — in my case after substantial damage to my contents which happened to be the contents of an antique store. It seems to me that that’s the type of claim that should be handled by the owner’s insurance – not the tenant’s. That’s only one of the issues – every single month I’ve been there it’s been a hassle paying my bill because it’s never been “corrected”. I got an alleged “special rate” by reserving online but for some reason they can’t seem to get it together with their computer system or upper management. Last month they asked me to wait to pay until they got their district manager to correct the rate. I went ahead and paid online. This month it still wasn’t corrected so now they’re charging me a late fee, in addition to a “leaving a couple of mildewed, damaged boxes outside my unit” fee when I had to move due to their negligence – mind you, now all of a sudden they won’t let the tenants use the onsite dumpster unless they pay a fee and I’m not taking some dirty, mildewed boxes with me – I don’t have a dumpster at my house. And they’re trying to charge me a “staying after hours” fee – because a few times I got stuck inside the gate so when the manager’s husband came to make his rounds he let me out. The only reason why I was there “after hours” was because they were only giving me a few days to move to another unit due (again) to their negligence! It cost me thousands of dollars to pay people to move me to the first unit —-(I had just gotten out of the hospital from a terrible car accident and couldn’t walk) now I was supposed to move again all by myself in a few days after it literally took over a month for professionals to move me! And now I had to go through everything, inventory it, take photos and find a way to dispose of it (not on-site), re-pack what was useable AND move it to another unit? CRAZY! I’m moving on – who needs this kind of incompetent unprofessional storage facility when there’s so many who would welcome new customers. They’re looking at a class action lawsuit, I’m afraid.

I have a long, long string of complaints against this place, where I had a storage space for 12 years. I’m going to write about only one of them here. A $5 piece of flashing would have saved me a lot of hassle after I accidentally spilled a big bunch of personal files down a gap between the stairs and the wall as I moved out of a so-called “mezzanine” space. For 12 years, I assumed they had access to that space because it was so obviously an accident waiting to happen. By any reasonable standard they were liable for negligence for not putting something over those gaps, and they should have borne the expense of providing access to that space. They disagreed. After claiming that they’d made an effort to reach the files, the manager (who, in fact, had no idea where the files were–so much for making an effort) simply announced to me that they weren’t giving my files back. I was furious. I took it two steps up to the district level and was told they had made a reasonable effort to get the files, so any other time or expense was my problem, not theirs. At this point we were talking about having to take the stairs apart to get to the files. (There were a couple of too-lazy-to-look assumptions on their part as to how the stairs were put together, btw.) Turned out the files were accessible if you had two hours, some determination, and a garden tool on a pole. (The only help they offered was the use of a grabbing bar–the kind you use to get jars off a high shelf–which actually was useful.) My impression was that these knuckleheads had no idea they were negligent, even at the district level, and obviously that they didn’t care. So be warned: Stay away. They’re negligent about your sanity too.

I have a storage unit and they are saying my account is past due. It definitely is not. Specifically, they say that my payment for August was not made. My payment is made directly from my checking account, and my account shows that payment was made at the end of July for August. I spoke with the person at that facility and provided proof from my bank, but she claims to not have received payment. I have also spoken with my bank and they said they would stop the first payment and issued another — which the Extra Space person still claims to not have received. I have been charged a late fee, am receiving late notices, and have been locked out of my unit because of sloppy record keeping on their part. I have been a customer at the Gilroy location for almost 16 years I’ve tried to get my stuff out several times but due to lack of U-Haul trucks in the Bay Area or the help to get it not to mention running a business it has been difficult. This last year we had the Carr fire up in Redding CA which severely hurt my business we were closed for over two months then in December we had a break-in and thousands of dollars worth of stuff was stolen. I just now have been able to get my house refinanced so that I have extra cash I am behind in my payments at extra space I called today May 10th to let them know I will be making a payment next week however the auction is on Monday as usual they could care less about anything but the money! The really bad thing about this company is that they will not let you catch up any late payments you have to pay everything at once including egregious late fees! letter fees! special fees! you will end up owing an extra three or four hundred dollars just on fees! My storage unit is 515 a month they have excessively raise the rent, today I went online and found out that they’re giving much better rates to new customers while customers that have been with them for years are getting Raked over the coals! And now after reading many other customer complaints I’m worried that after paying all of this money I very possibly could be opening a storage unit full of mice feces and urine. I also would like to mention that there are hundreds and hundreds of complaints about this company but yet when you go on their website or look them up online they have nothing but five stars how is that possible?

I have been a extra space Storage customer for going on a year now and I recently have had some issues with not even extra space Storage employees but a painting crew that extra space hired to paint the Thornton Colorado store so our facility has had fpower it, for the first six seven months I have rented the unit for that reason every unit had power “lighting”but a few months now we haven’t had any power ? no power at all and at night it is extremely hard to see in the units and maneuver your stuff ..I cracked my head open almost requiring stitchs trying to get to something in my unit! And because there was no light, I then started running an extension cord to an outside outlet on the building next month to mine ..have been harassed by two painters who said they had permission from corporate that if anybody was plugged into those outlets that they could talk your customers like crap, treat them like crap, and “belittle” them and that’s exactly what they did!!! this painting crew is less than professional by painting things on the concrete wall referring to their co-workers as “gay” their ATTIUTUDE, rudeness, and aggressivness to be threatening and not to mention how they should not be able to touch or abuse. My personal things! I felt this to be extremely disrespectfuI, and that as an long time good paying customer of extra space Storage for almost year now, I would be shown a lot more courteousness respect and care for the safety me and the people who use my unit, If I wasn’t abusing that outlet I would be a little more understanding? I have been at this location 2 yrs I have been ignored when letting the office know of problems Such as filthy floor in front of my storage unit and building. Very unsafe and poor “no” security Eric and the other guys that worked In the office lock the door when they are in the office so no one can enter the office. #lazy Many calls to the Utah Corporte Office last year regarding the behavior of the guys in the office. I have been renting from this place for 5 years… 5 YEARS…ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE AND IT GETS WORSE AS TIME GOES ON…TINA IS HORRIBLE … First, THE CHARGES INCREASE SEEMS LIKE EVERY 6 MONTHS … Than, My unit was JUST Auctioned off without any notice.. IT WAS WAY BETTER … when the other guy ran the facility… He would make sure to reach out to you, if there was an issue…NOT TINA… All she said is we sent a letter…WHICH I DID NOT RECEIVE… NO PHONE CALL… NO EMAIL… ALL OF MY DECEASED MOTHER’S THINGS AUCTIONED OFF…

I have been trying to discuss my excessive rate increase for my storage unit and I have called multiple times with no result. Costumer service does not help at all. Finally, one of the representatives told me that the reason that the unit was increased is bc they look at the rates of their competitors and if the competitors raise their prices, so do they. But, wait, I just barely moved into this place. I”m being charged an additional 17% on the 4th month, so the rate that I signed up for was only good for 3 months, she said that maybe they got confussed and my unit is too cheap so they have to make up the money somehow. WOW!!!

I have been with this place for 2 years never missed a payment and always been on time. I had surgeries and moved out of state I got distracted and couldn”t give the 10 day move out notice so now I cannot get stuff until i pay the balance and late fees and i did not get a pro rated month so i paid for half of a month I”m not even there I will never recommend this place to anybody as well as the bugs. I Lola Bishop concern about my storage I really don”t understand how I was a customer since 2014 paid on time I also have been harassment defination of character calling police on me the staff has went into my storage without my permission I”ve been beat out of my money in 2017 Christmas day extra space storage told me that I had to pay 468.00 for me to file my lose I have proof that I had insurance due to management stating she reinstated my insurance then this time I went to jail for 85 days and they charge me 153.00 dollars months when I told them I don”t need their insurance so since they charge me I should be able to file my lost with them also all I had asked extra space storage to work with me until a received my check something needs to be done am tried of getting beat out of my money this is bad business plus the owner don”t like black people so today I respectfully asking please if you can be of service to me call at [protected] thank you

I recently contacted the rep from the website www.extraspace.com. I wanted to try their services and this jerk offered me deal. They offered to try their services for one month completely for free, but after 2 weeks they started to charge me for nothing. When I called them, no one picked the phone and they ignored all my emails. Please leave comments about this company, because people should be aware when they deal with such dishonest and unprofessional people.

I recently reserved a unit online with Extra Space Storage in Fredericksburg, VA. I had planned on moving an the end of the month because my current storage provider has mouse problems. After securing my credit card and making the reservations I believe it was three or four times Extra Space called me to confirm when I was coming in. They told me that it takes 45 mins to fill out paperwork, copy driver’s license, look at the unit to ensure it’s acceptable and to take fingerprints. Hell! I’m not an FBI applicant, I just want a storage unit. Well after Ron called me again the day I was suppose to move he again went through the speel of how it takes 45 mins to complete the paperwork and they weren’t allowed to work overtime, yadda yadda. I finally said to forget it. There’s too many storage businesses out there for a consumer to go through all this crap. Hell, the mice don’t even give me this much of a problem.

I rented a unit for 3 yrs;I moved out 9/28/07. I found the remains of a very severe rat infestation in my unit. My furniture, boxes, etc were covered in rat droppings & smelled of rat urine so strongly we couldn’t stay in the back of the unit to pull stuff out. Found silverfish all over the place.Dessicated remains of 3 rats in a corner under my stuff were found. The possibility of contracting some disease was on my mind. I gave the manager a letter 10/1 asking for some compensation; I don’t feel they lived up to their responsibility to provide me with a clean, safe storage unit.I left more than 3/4th of my stuff to be destroyed. The response from management was “They told you they had a rat problem” (Yes, they did as casually as they might say they had crickets.and they said it was resolved)2 months later & no one else has returned my call.

I signed on with a rate, not given the opportunity to lock in rate by prepaying, and 6 months later rate increase went into effect. Even though I was not given opportunity to lock in rate, James Klemic nor Michael Duncan refuse to right their wrong, by honoring a prepayment. This company is deceptive and stick together rather than do what’s right by the consumer.

I used the storage place, which provided the company www.extraspacestorage.com. But one day I received the phone call from this company and they told me that the pipe blew and everything was in water. I arrived and yes, all my stuff was in water. As well as they broke the door to my storage in order to get the access to the pipe. But I asked to pay for everything, but they refused me and told that I needed to place new door on my won. Terrible services.
