TimeShare Scam & Misrepresentation by the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya Please take your time to read our story so this does not happen to you. My husband & I went to the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya sales presentation at their resort in Mexico, with no intentions of buying. During our discussions with the sales representative, he told us their timeshare units are like real estate in the sense that they will appreciate in value. He told us his timeshare had gone up $20,000.00. Not only that, he told us that if we bought this particular unit it would rent for $1500.00 per week, he could give us two weeks per year, it would pay for itself in no time. He also gave us a company suppled typed out list of companies that could rent or sell our timeshare. To make a long and upsetting story short, after 5 years of owning our timeshare we have never received a dime, or a call about potential renters. Next, we decided to try selling it, so we called the same company to sell our timeshare, and still nothing. We started getting calls from timeshare sales companies (who knows how they got our numbers as we have cell phones) offering to sell our timeshare if we put $2500.00 up front. Obviously, at this point we are not going to fall for the money up front nonsense. Next, I contact the Grand Mayan to discuss what has happened & not happened with our purchase. I wanted to voice my feelings & point out the fraudulent tactics that were used on us by their Grand Mayan sales representative. The Grand Mayan representative I was speaking with responded by saying – We cannot control what each sales representative says during a sale. Wow, that statement made everything crystal clear for me. The Grand Mayan Riviera Mayan allows their sales representative to say whatever it takes to make a sale. They are an extremely high pressure sales company allowing their staff to misrepresent their product to get your money; it is a simple as that. In conclusion: My husband & I wanted to share this factual information about the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya to warn others of their deceptive sales tactics & misrepresentation of their timeshare product by allowing their sales representative to say whatever it takes to get you to hand over your money. .
