Due to my increasing consumption of junk food and caffeine drinks, my weight was increasing day by day and I couldn’t do the day to day activities properly. My friends also started teasing me in school with various bad names and I could not even helped myself since I was extremely fat person. One evening after reaching home from school, I was really upset du to this. My mother came to me and said that she has found a solution for me. And then she told me about La Fitness. This is a health and beauty clinic whose members help the people to reduce the extra at of the body by providing few drinks and medicine and also gym facilities. I trusted them and started my treatment with them. But unfortunately, I did not get the expected results. I only got disappointment in return of paying them so much and more over they betrayed my trust and broke my heart too that now I cannot trust any such company who claims to make me fit an slim. They gave me he wrong medicines due to which I had several stomach and skin problems. I went through various skin treatments after that but could no get my original fair and lovely face back. I was suffering from a serious depression after that and nothing was making me happy since my beauty was fully lost. The drinks they asked me to drink was really tasteless. Moreover it increased my weight further which was just not acceptable for me. After this, my boyfriend even left me and I felt so helpless. They are so irresponsible and careless. They have no service ethics and are just taking money from their clients. I would never ever suggest anyone to visit them and to have there slimming treatment.

No Security or Hygiene at LA Fitness
LA Fitness is a North American gym is a trap that lures you with cheap prices and gives you nothing.
I went there too thinking what cheap it is for the facilities they provide! But like nothing comes for free, at LA Fitness nothing comes for cheap!
For instance as they are giving new membership at cheap price the gym is really very dirty and you will not feel like visiting here quite often.
The trainers won’t take the job seriously and won’t teach you any of the techniques or methods of having the correct way of gyming and are sometimes rude if you try to talk against it.
I have witnessed rats and cockroaches running about. They do not clean the floors or equipment for days and therefore the place smells like garbage!
The most irritating part of the whole gym is the staff members are extremely rude and they will behave with you quite rudely and don’t even answer any questions if you have they won’t even teach the proper methods and will talk against you if you want to force them to do so.
The equipments that they provide you to work on are extremely old and sometimes they don’t even work. It will be highly inconvenient for you to try to work on them because they are faulty and the equipments just might hurt you.
There have been various injuries and accidents due to the old equipments and people usually feel really bad about the way the staffs behave here.
There is a lack of privacy here because once there was a homeless person in the women’s locker! There is no sense of security and you will not be protected.
After being a personal trainer for 25
After being a personal trainer for 25 years and having trained at virtually all of the other gyms in Ocean County, particularly, the Jersey Shore, this gym has to be, hands-down, the most mismanaged and filthiest gyms around. You will invariably find upper management M.I.A. should you have any type of concern at the gym. If a machine is broken or inadequately functioning, which, not surprisingly, is very often, the Operations Manager, Eric, seems utterly clueless. Instead of periodically walking around the gym and visually inspecting the weights, dumbbells, machines, and even the pool downstairs, Eric is stationed right behind the front counter checking members in when they arrive with their key tags. Excuse me, but that responsibility is delegated to the front desk help. Eric is the manager of the entire gym, but yet, he only seems to acknowledge what happens at that diminutive front counter. How can a salaried employee purposefully act so oblivious? Such a clarion example of management gone awry. I was wholly shocked to learn that alerting the repair guy of all necessary repairs to the entire gym falls on Eric’s shoulder’s. But yet, he invariably waits for you to come to him when you see anything that needs repairing. Umm, that’s not my job, it’s yours Eric. Please remind us once again why we are paying so much in membership fees per month to police YOUR gym? Perhaps, you should share your manager salary with everyone who does your job for you while you sit back and chillax. The General Manager of the entire gym, Ralph Kistner, reminds me of the captain of the RMS Titanic, Edward J. Smith, who heroically perished with his sinking ship. But, unfortunately, Ralph is no hero. In fact, Ralph is the one who is at the helm of this multi-million dollar behemoth but yet, inexplicably, is steering the gym right down into the abyss. Ralph is his very own iceberg. While employed at LA Fitness, I personally witnessed Ralph’s impotence and inability to manage this gym quite frequently. He’d rather mysteriously “disappear†during his shift whenever a gym member expressed any type of dissatisfaction with anything related to the gym. His repudiation of his appointed authority became so well known throughout this gym that anytime a member had any type of question or concern, Ralph’s perpetual pass-the-buck attitude pointed directly to his Assistant General Manager, Tyler Lee Russell. It was invariably up to Tyler to address every single issue in this gym. Pathetically, Tyler’s very own ineptitude overshadowed Ralph’s ineptness. This imbecilic management duo colloquially became dubbed “The Blind Leading the Blind.†Moreover, Tyler would rather stand right outside the gym and perpetually smoke cigarette after cigarette throughout his shift. Tyler is second in command at LA but his primary objective is to vigorously reel unknowing victims into the gym to become members. Once you pay your membership dues, you are no longer his concern. By the way, for an arrogant and smug 21 year old, he’s d**n good at ripping you off. He’s sneaky and slimy and once you sit in his chair, you, too, will be mesmerized by his chicanery. He can literally sell ice to an Eskimo. Beware, his desk is the second one in the front, right next to the GM himself. If you are sitting in his chair for longer than 5 minutes, it’s merely too late at that point. He would have already had you sign away your hard earned money. You know the old adage, a fool and his money are soon parted. Here’s a wise tip though, always use your credit card so that you can later have the dubious charges contested by your credit card company. I spoke at length to current member Sandy who credibly confirmed how the smoke and mirrors technique is perpetuated at LA Fitness. In the end, her credit card company threatened to sue LA and management, fully cognizant of their illicit wrongdoing, was forced to refund the entire amount it fraudulently charged to her credit card. After going to this gym since last year, I am relieved that my eyes are no longer wide shut. I have seen the decades-old decrepit carpet fraying and unraveling, perilously causing a trip and fall hazard. On a daily basis, dumbbells are left all over the gym floor, when they should remain in the typical designated weight area. I’ve personally witnessed unwitting members trip over these precariously and negligently placed steel dumbbells. Also, once something is dropped on the floor, such as a piece of gym paper from the dispenser, you will undoubtedly see that identical piece of rubbish in the same spot the very next day. In a significantly alarming phenomenon, I personally contacted Ralph’s, Tyler’s and Eric’s boss, Mr. Louis Pinto, III, many, many weeks ago to personally notify him about this gym’s lack of feasible management. Mr. Pinto is the District Manager for all LA Fitness gyms throughout New York and New Jersey and is the top guy. When you have a problem at any local LA Fitness gym, Mr. Pinto is the guy you contact for resolution. Regrettably, Mr. Pinto has chosen to never return my specifically detail oriented voice mail message. So now, he, too, is intentionally condoning the inmates running the asylum atmosphere at his very own Toms River LA Fitness. LA Fitness management, it’s time to vigilantly do your job. No more abdication. I have spoken to several former LA members who expressed the analogous sentiment I have aforesaid documented. This week alone, over ten members canceled their memberships at this management-neglected gym and every sequential week the numbers of former members augment. I regularly keep track on my Facebook page of these disgruntled former members who contact me about this distinct gym. In fact, I was just speaking to Toms River Police Officer Miehl yesterday at LA Fitness who, in no uncertain terms whatsoever, admitted to canceling his LA membership predominately because of the incessant mismanagement, filthy and putrid conditions existing and management inexplicably turning a blind eye and deaf ear to viable concerns of its very own members. Please remember this Eric, Tyler, General Manager Ralph and District Manager Louis, when the customer comes first the customer will last. Us former members would rather take our business to and spend our hard earned money at a gym that actually values its members. You guys have proven time after time that we are effectively meaningless and worthless to you!!
It was crime comited by computer teft
It was crime comited by computer teft by La Fitness! I paid in total of $2130.00 all together by AMEX and I have proof of that! After I wrote a letter to headquarters requesting that I can’t continue my personal training for health reasons and I like transfer my balance that my son can take some training classes my money suddenly disappear ( from the balance that I had there 11 sessions left ) on they computer data base??? WTF?! That is a Ripoff? or maybe perfect crime becouse no one care?! They are thief’s!
Just opened an account with Corey on
Just opened an account with Corey on 2/6/15 for my wife and myself. First time in the gym 2/9/15, and we took our 3 kids to kid play area and hit the treadmill and stretched out. I brought a “Husky” folder with paper and pen to write down our heaviest weight limit for each exercise (all leg machines). We went to use the smith machine to max out on squats. My wife went first and then right when I was going into my turn I had an assistant manager named SEAN HERMAN come to me in a very threatning body stance and yelling at the top of his lungs in front of about 30 people that I am not allowed to “coach” because we have to pay for personal trainers. I was “coaching” because i was writing down our progress. I asked to speak with the GENEREAL MANAGER EMILY, then he said she was fired and HE was the General Manager. Corey was there and watched both of us working out, so i took Sean to Corey and then Corey lied and said he didn’t see anything. I said it the situation was bullshit because there is a consumer affair report about the exact same situation happening to a mother and her teenage son. SEAN then intentionally verbally threatened me to take me outside and beat my a** if I had a problem with it in front of Corey. Coming from an experienced fortune 50 Retail store management background, i stated I was shocked at his professional demeanor, and as a BROWN BELT IN HELIO GRACIES JIU JITSU, I would not fight him. I also stated I was a VOLUNTEER SHERIFF OFFICER and I could call the local station on him for CA PC 422 criminal threats which is a FELONY… he quickly refuted his verbal threat and said he was cancelling my account and called me a BITCH in front of my wife, corey and other gym members. For my first time at an LA FITNESS and at the POWAY, CA location, I will never go back and expect a refund which they never gave the mom and her son.
My wife signed me up for membership
My wife signed me up for membership at LA Fitness. The salesman on the phone tried to get her to sign up as well, she refused, and I confirmed the order, that only I was the one with a pass. We began noticing duplicate charges, and recieved an email stating that she had an account too. i went in person to complain of the error, and they apologized and said they’d get to the bottom of it. A month later we still saw charges so we called the customer service line for LA Fitness, and they too did not help us cancel her membership, but claimed it was. Finally months later my wife noticed again the charges for the account, and saw that they signed her contract with an E*signature. I called the corporate office, and they tried to offer a partial refund, but then 2 days later refused. The use of an E*signature without someones permission is fraud, they did not at all take seriously the criminal offense that it is. Very Dishonest Company, you could not pay me to remain a member here.
All three managers listed have been complained
All three managers listed have been complained to by multiple club members about other members holding/hogging equipment using sweaty towels while they work out on two pieces of equipment at one time. Aside from keeping other paying members from using the equipment, these rude club members are possibly exposing other members to such things as Staphylococcus aureus, more commonly referred to as “Staph†and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections as well as many other infectious diseases. One such rude member that management is aware of and does nothing to resolve the problem is Joseph Manning, owner of Frater Electric.
Terrible Place to Workout
I feel like I am at a discount gym. For weeks the cable has been malfunctioning. 2/3 of the treadmills have issues with sound plugs for earphones or ability to hold a TV signal. All this while a gaggle of employees stand idly at the front desk doing no more than scanning member cards. They could be out surveying the equipment on a daily basis to see what is working and what is not, cleaning the machines (yes, that is an issue as well).
We left another local gym after they opened big guns, like you did, and did no machine maintenance, put signs on machines that they are out of order, for weeks or months, like you are doing. Workouts that become opportunities for frustrations are not workouts. This morning I started on four malfunctioning treadmills before walking out in disgust. Atlantic Blvd LA Fitness.
Lack of Hand Soap/Sanitizer, General Lack of Cleaning
I have been a member of LA Fitness at the Everett mall in WA ST for a little over a year. The equipment is great, some of the staff is very rude (trainers). The real problem I have is that I can see the same dirt/grime smudges on the bench in the locker room for days on end. It is so thick I could measure it with calipers. They have started to clean the showers, they didn’t used to and there was black mold in the grout lines. The trainer doesn’t clean or have the clients clean their equipment when they are done using it. This I could live with as there is cleaning supplies and hand sanitizer about the gym.
I noticed several months ago that the sanitizer dispensers were no longer being refilled, then they were removed from the walls that they were mounted on. I asked the staff and they said that they are in the process of changing brands of sanitizer. This was several months ago and there still no sanitizer. They have also removed the hand soap dispensers from the rest rooms.
Lazy Uncaring Employees
Always hair in the showers. They say they wipe down equipment but when I left something there on a machine still there next day. Shared a racquetball court with flying roach. They did not tell someone else that their van was broken into they just talked about it among themselves. The same day my iPad was stolen from there. When I called the next day to ask them if anyone turned in. They were rude and acted as though we were bothering them.
Cancellation Problem
I terminated my membership and they continued to bill my credit card despite numerous phone calls and assurance the charges would be reversed. If you join, never give them your credit card to bill. It will never end.
Personal Training Sessions
I am writing this because as I was looking at reviews, I saw people dealing with the same issues. I want to note that it is true! They word things just perfect so that they have “loop holes” to get as much money as possible. They say one thing, and say you can handle the rest in the future once the sessions are over. You get to that point and everything they say changes. I was told I would pay the initiation fee plus $200 and get 10 sessions. I got through THREE and they told me I didn’t have any left. I wasn’t even close to ten. If I was one or two off I would understand but I got THREE and they said I had to pay again.
I tried to contact the manager MULTIPLE times and couldn’t. I kept being told he would call. I tried talking to others there, they all gave me different answers but said they couldn’t help me only the manager could. So I tried for awhile. I finally tried to cancel because I was extremely unsatisfied and told I couldn’t. No one has given me answers, no one has called me.
I am unable to cancel, it’s all bad! The worst part is I asked to see the contract I signed and they can’t show it to me?? They then began to get rude with me and tell me the ball was in my court and I had to do something about it. And that if I wanted to play telephone and not talk to someone that was my choice. I am usually pretty chill and patient, don’t complain too much but never have I been this unsatisfied. I loved the training sessions I got, and my trainer for the few session we had, on a positive note.
Unsafe, Unclean and Disorganized
For years I have been communicating with the Operations Manager, Cesar **, about the condition of the gym (equipment breakage and free weight area disorganization). I have even spoken with several staff as well as attempted to reach corporate which is almost impossible.
The main issues with the gym/management is the free weight area is always a disaster. Sometimes there seems to be more free weights in the aerobics room than the free weight area. The weight plates are always all over the floor and the dumbbell rack is empty. Because of the disarray it takes me longer to work out and have even skinned my shins because of all the land mines in the pathways.
I have sent several emails to Cesar advising of the unsafe conditions and extremely unhappy customers I have interfaced with and all he can say is that corporate won’t allow for additional overhead or support. I explained to him that the LA Fitness near the expressway (5 miles down the road) is always neat and clean and I am sure they are subjected to the same corporate limitations and demographics. Long story short there is no excuse and he needs to become more of an accountable manager.
Another issue that has been progressively getting worst is the cleanliness of the workout area and locker rooms. When you first enter the lobby it smells like a sewer. As you go in the locker room there is an musty mildew smell. I know it is a men’s locker room so there will be other smells but this is 5am and already smells bad.
About 6-8 months ago there was a change in cleaning personnel and the new guy I have been witnessing for awhile now and yet to see him clean the bathrooms with any kind of disinfectant. All he does is get paper towels from the machine and wipe areas of the mirror and wipe down the sinks. As this has progressed there has been an increase in odor, roaches and bugs in the shower. Additionally there is frequent trash left in the lockers and sticky residue on the work out floor.
I did an experiment to see how long some powder will last on the floor in the locker room (tile floor) and it stayed there for 3 months. I don’t think the floor was ever cleaned but it got worn away. Needless to say I wear flip flops and shoes all over.
I have told Cesar that I refuse to move since the expectation of their gym is to provide a safe, clean and organized gym. I am also taking the lead to be a voice of all the disappointed members of the morning dedicated work out people. This problem is going to be fixed when Cesar addresses the systemic breakdown for good, gets removed from his position or an accident occurs and LA Fitness will be sued and the gym will close or change management/ownership.
I suggest any potential customers avoid the gym for now until we can get is straighten up and safe. To all existing members settling for an unclean, unsafe and below expectation manager write reviews and post your issues. The more we get them recognized the more loss of business to the point corporate will have to investigate. In the meantime I will continue to address this as well as find ways into corporate to bring this to light. “The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result” – Albert Einstein.
Sales Team Is Clueless
Signed up for a 5 day free pass to try out the club. I wanted to see what the basketball games were like. Was given a 1 day pass even though they emailed a 5 day pass. I was told if I didn’t go through their questionnaire and tour I’d have to pay $15. They asked what my goal was. I said, “To play basketball.” They tried to force personal training on me when it is completely irrelevant. I told them, “I will sign up if the games are good.” They tried to force me into a 1 year membership.
Sales people are a joke there. They just kept data dumping on me rather than understanding what I want. Nice club, mentally challenged staff. Games were pretty weak. 24 Hour Fitness Irving is much more competitive and safe (lots dudes fouling in shorts and sandals).
Filthy, Unfriendly, Machines Broken, No Management Oversight
I have been a member for over 20 years. I started my membership in Scottsdale, AZ. I had traveled and used countless LA facilities across the country. I am now living in West Palm Beach and use the Okeechobee/Military location. The gym is filthy, the equipment is never repaired on time. The management is non-existent. The staff is unfriendly and the custodian spends more time on the machines than cleaning. No one picks up their weights and just leaves them on the machines and on the floor. No one working at LA Fitness picks up anything, never on the floor.
Yesterday, a man had his 2 small children crawling around on the workout floor. NO one monitors anything at this location. Now I love other locations such as Port St Lucie in Tradition, nice friendly staff, always on the floor picking up weights, patrons have a great attitude and pick up after themselves. Comparing about 110 locations I have worked out in, the Okeechobee/Military location is by far the worst and getting worst. Corporate, do something at that location please.
Facility Experience
It happens all the time: No paper towels or soap to wash your hands, no toilet paper, trash cans overflowing, trash everywhere. Weekends are the worst, but it happens during the week as well. And the employees/management just don’t care! This facility leaves a lot to be desired. Not recommended!
Get Me Out of My Contract
LA Fitness uses, at best, questionable sales techniques and a tell them what they want to hear sales pitch. I signed up for a training contract after being given a “sample” training session. The problem is the “sample” session I was given was 10x better than any of the sessions I received after signing the contract. They had a master trainer work me out to the point I almost blacked out (which I liked) but then right after sells me a contract telling me I can have him train me. I can have group sessions. I will get an individualized training program which includes a regiment for the week in addition to my booked training session. The trainers will work around my schedule.
I can cancel if I am unsatisfied after a few weeks, but come to find out none of that happens to be available after I sign the contract. I get a sub par trainer. I get shifted around to multiple sub par trainers. I had trainers tell me it’s my fault when a session starts late when I was there early. I have trainers try to pawn me off on other trainers because I try to hold them to doing what the master trainer said I was going to get. I complained to both the location and the corporate office multiple times and I get the same run around stall tactics like: “try another trainer”, “I’ll call the location and make sure your session won’t start late, etc.”
All so they can keep you past the point where you can cancel (which cancellation time is not disclosed at the time of signing), but even if it was you are mentally and physically exhausted, which is the worst time for you to sign a contract, but the best time for them to sell you one!
One of the Worst Gym Ever
LA Fitness is one of the worst places ever. I became a member to lose some weight and get in shape but the place is so disgusting there is no fresh air you just want to throw up. You cannot stay in the facility more than 10 minutes. They have lack of air circulation. I couldn’t bare that disgusting place more than a month. I wanted to cancel the membership, but no it seems it is impossible. You have to fill out a form and send it via mail.
After waiting two weeks they still didn’t cancel my membership and charged me again. When I called the customer service they were so rude. They said they didn’t receive my mail yet and they asked me to send it a certified mail. THEY JUST DON’T WANT TO STOP CHARGING YOU. DO NOT REGISTER FOR THAT PLACE!!!
Hearing Issue Caused by LA Fitness Staff and Horrible Treatment Thereafter
The step class instructor at 9025 S. Highway 6, Houston Texas 77083 puts the music in her step class extremely loud and also screams at the mic. This gave me tinnitus based on my ENT. I called and the manager ** said he was busy and was extremely dismissive. He actually hang up on me. I was stunned at how awful a person he was. I have never seen anything like that. He was extremely unprofessional and hostile. I find that LA Fitness is not what it used to be. I called back several times to get a hold of someone and finally a guy picked up the phone and he said they were busy and he couldn’t help me. He also hang up on me.
Finally I called a third time and after several attempts the call did go through. A lady answered the phone and she gave me the corporate number. I complained to corporate. The complaint was handled by some kid who did not seem to take my complaint seriously. I have serious damage to my hearing as a result of the class I attended. The ENT doctor said my hearing issue was due to loud sound and that is the only place I have been exposed to a loud sound.
I had complained to the instructor before about how loud the music was and how loud she was when she talked on the mic but she did not seem to care about my complaints. I may sue them. I think they are awful and would not recommend anyone from attending the gym.
Worst Decision and Investment I Ever Made
The gym membership is great. In my area there are several gyms to choose from with swimming pools at a fair rate. Their pool is dirty, but it is the best considering other options. Personal Training: I was advised not to do it from friends because the personal trainers are incompetent and it is one big sales approach. I ignored these opinions, and I truly thought LA Fitness was going to help me. I WAS WRONG.
I have called different gyms inquiring about different trainers, no one called me back or wanted to speak with me. I spoke with the Personal Director in my area to help me find a good trainer for me, she only tried to sell me more, or trainers that needed more customers. Once I told her I was looking at other gyms, she was real quick to tell me she had an errand to run.
The personal trainers are all trained to work you out hard so when you are done, you are sweating and wore out, which in my opinion is not (training/ educating). At least that is what a few personal trainers told me when I asked. One of the trainers pushed me so hard I pulled a muscle in my shoulder and had to stop training for weeks.
I hate myself for wasting money on a low quality product with no customer service, or no one who wants to help. I blame myself for not doing enough research which is why I am writing this review. To give this review a happier ending, there are a few Personal Trainers who are great, but it is really tough to find them and most likely they will leave your gym, move outside of LA fitness, or get promoted within months.
LA Fitness Join at Your Own Risk!!!
As a member under the holiday franchise, then the Bally’s and now the LA Fitness franchise, I must say it was disheartening to discover that the contract now offered by LA Fitness has an exculpatory clause to protect them from liability… Be aware that if you get injured for any reason, any cause, any failure on LA Fitness’ behalf they will not be liable! You exercise at LA Fitness totally at your own risk!!!
I suffered a slip & fall in the women’s locker room/shower area because the facility did not use no skid mats on the floor. The water soaked mats on the floor skidded right out from under me and I suffered a concussion, contusions, and other muscular injuries. Court ruled that the exculpatory clause was enforceable! That’s right. I got nothing for my pain & suffering, lost wages, and medical. Be aware!!!
Break-ins
Apparently the facility has had multiple break-ins both in and out and still refuses to put video surveillance in the parking area. Four break-ins occurred including mine in the daylight in the front parking lot in one day and the receptionist told me they had posted signs. I went out to look and could not see the signs until I looked up high on the pole. The sign says, “Lock your car, take your keys and hide your belongings.” I did this and worker said I should have hidden my belongings at home! Never once did she apologize or voice concern for my loss. She made me feel like I was the cause of the break in.
When I asked her about video surveillance, she informed me that the policy is not to have it. Why? Would this not discourage criminals doing this? My instructor saw me and was the only one from facility to voice her concern. The police were very helpful and followed up with a call, but nothing from LA Fitness people! I find this appalling! Their customer service and consideration for members is poor!
Staff Has No Communication and Overcharges
For the two months, I was a member of LA Fitness [and] they overcharged me each time. As a young adult, I don’t have the funds to be overcharged every single month. The second time I was promised a $20 waive off then was told by another employee they wouldn’t be doing that and denied ever offering it. They made this promise in order to get my new credit card numbers so they could charge me $40.
When I demanded to quit and get my money back the manager Lisa was incredibly rude and refused to allow me to quit over the phone or to return my money. I think that if your staff cannot communicate and stick to their word then contract or not the customer should be reimbursed. I will never join this gym nor recommend it to anyone I know. I will be writing a letter to the higher authorities about this situation so they can rethink who they make a manager at this gym.
Worst Gym I Joined
I go to this gym and at first I like the gym but then they started getting cheap. They shut off the air conditioner which is bad because it smells like ** in there. The customer service line is so unprofessional that when I called to complain they hung up 3 times. They make Wal-Mart employers look great. The trainers there are the only good thing about this gym but too bad they don’t work for another company.
They shut off the wireless access most of the time so you can’t listen to music if you depend on wireless access. Machines are constantly broken and don’t get repaired for a while. My biggest mistake was joining this gym so if you’re thinking about a gym make sure it isn’t this one. I don’t plan on joining any other gym because of this and I won’t be coming back to this place. They are still taking out money out my bank account even after I closed the account. La Fitness CEO needs to retrain all their employees and get better attitudes if you’re going to be dealing with paying members.
Poor Management
When a young man was “camped out” on a machine, playing with his phone, I asked to work in and reminded him that others were waiting and that common courtesy dictates that one leave the machine between reps. He became indignant and refused to get up saying “You’re not getting the machine, I will stay on here as long as I want”. When I spoke with the manager, he told me that he can’t do anything about it, says everyone does it, and that he too “sits” on the equipment as long as he wants to.
Guess I was expecting too much. This same manager has done nothing about all the break ins in the locker rooms. When LA Fitness took over this location, they caused a great deal of confusion by not sharing correct information regarding the status of memberships, giving members different answers to the same questions, doing away with Silver Sneakers and making no attempt to retain those using the program, and giving conflicting stories regarding the future of the facility. I will no longer be using this, or any other LA Fitness facility and in fact will give up the membership that I have had since 1978.
Do Not Join LA Fitness, Dirty & Sleazy & Ripoff Company
I was with Bally’s (El Centro, LA) and since LA Fitness bought them, it was worse. The place has no hot water for days, shower & locker very dirty, no soap, no paper towels, theft inside locker room (inside job), employee was rude, I overheard the guy that worked there, to ask a customer to go outside so he can kicked his **.
They closed down the gym for 2 months to fix the place & took out the steam room without telling us. Now we only have dry sauna but lots of people enjoying steam room. They also breach the contract from people with Bally’s and jacked up the price. I was with Bally’s for more than 15 years, my yearly dues was $99, they want to charge me $500 a yr, this is FRAUD! After many months of contacting Bally’s to get my contract and Bally’s (just as bad) another sleazy corporation, would not send me a copy of the contract. They are in cahoots with LA Fitness.
I took them to court and won the judgment, now they are not paying me, and I trying to collect them. So people you are being warned, it’s time to let these sleazy company knows and shut them out of business, don’t join Bally’s and LA Fitness, go with 24 Hour Fitness much better. Boycott Bally’s and LA Fitness, you have been warned.
Nasty Noisy Management
I asked the manager to turn down the music as it was so loud I was getting a headache and could not get through my workout; the manager who looks like she has never been to a gym in her life became belligerent and stated that she did not think it was too loud. Unbelievable! Other members are afraid of her as they don’t want to get yelled at, and, don’t see the point in asking her/complaining to her as she ignores our requests anyway… I have contacted corporate to no avail to date; certainly La Fitness can hire a better quality of people to represent their company even if this is Georgia.
It Is A Big Fraudulent Company
If you want somebody that steals your money, go to LA fitness. They help stealing your money. If you want to pay $150.00 money although you cancelled, and you don’t owe any money go to LA fitness. If you don’t have a friend and nobody calls you, cancel your membership and first day of next billing period after you cancel, don’t worry. Every state every location calls you within 3 days. Doesn’t matter you are crazy or not. Actually, it is much more than that. It is a big fraudulent company!
Worst Experience One Customer Can Expect From Any Company.
Service was worst, never responded back to our e-mails, never took any action as promised and as discussed. Always lied and misbehaved. Caused frustration and increased anxiety. Took money from our account without our knowledge and when informed, absolute no action was taken. E-mail id of the manager (as given by the receptionist) was returned as saying: “**, Your message can’t be delivered because delivery to this address is restricted.”
Flyers That They Don't Honor
I received a flier in the mail with a special offer and without a due date, with two coupons where they said redeem by 7/15/13. I went to the gym yesterday the 7/15/13 and tried to subscribe and results that the offer is not valid anymore. If you are going to have a due date you must write it on the flyer, otherwise you would have to honored the offer or it means you lie to the customers.
LA Fitness Will Only Broadcast CNN in Their Facilities
I went to the gym this am. There were approximately 10 TV’s for viewing. 3 of them were broadcasting CNN, 3 were broadcasting The View and the other 4 had sports channels. I went to the front desk to ask if I went to an area where no one was viewing the TV, could they please change the news broadcast to another news station. They told me it was a policy of LA Fitness to only view CNN as a news selection. My membership has been cancelled. I didn’t know we were communists.
Existing Bally Rates Not Honored
LA Fitness refused to honor existing Bally Total Fitness rates after buying Bally Total Fitness clubs. Shameless with a bad attitude to boot!
Cleanliness
On Sunday morning the locker rooms are dirty, shortage of towels, half the showers not working properly, dirty floors and showers.
Worst ever
I was a member for LA fitness for awhile. I hired a trainer there as well. When trainer quit, so did I, but LA Fitness kept charging me money for 10 months! Now, when I contacted them that they been charging me over 300$ a month (!!!) for membership and personal training, they said they not going to refund or credit this money. They also said that they can help me to set up membership, which I have to pay for, their generic answer. And after I told them that they took my money without providing any service, they said that they can help me to set up new membership that I have to pay for… Bunch of crooks!
Discrimination, TERRIBLE Customer Service
I attempted to use Kid Klub services at LA fitness last night and was told my membership didn’t include this. The guy who signed me up a few days prior, **, never mentioned this to me. Nonetheless he comes over to explain that it costs extra per month to use those services and that he told me about those fees and that I declined. It was 7:30 P.M. and I had only 30 minutes to work out before the Kids Klub closed. I arrived with my kids and obviously wouldn’t had done so if I knew that I didn’t have this service. I explained to ** that he didn’t mention any of this to me during my sign up on Saturday, April 28, 2012.
He persisted that he told me. I reminded him that I even asked him what the kids klub hours were during my sign up and he gave me the sheet with the hours on it. I had received no further information. He left me in the lobby of LA Fitness to speak with general manager and I could hear him telling the general manager about how he told me all of this and how he was right and I was wrong. I walked over to their desk thinking they were going to take care of things or move forward with the issue but no, we basically argued over what he told me and what I heard from him on Saturday.
The conversation then moves over to cancellation and I was handed a form and told they weren’t going to assist me further and calling the police. Point is: They called the police, canceled my membership and told me that I wouldn’t be receiving a refund of any amounts paid on my account which consisted of first and last months membership fees of approximately $60-65.00 because they claim I breached my contract by arguing with ** in front of other patrons.
Ideally the situation would have gone down like this: “Hey **, sorry for this misunderstanding, let’s get you signed up real quick so you can hit that work out tonight. I can take care of the information for you while you hustle in the gym.” To be honest, that’s all I was looking for. Someone to take care of the problem and let me go work out. Instead, I was called a liar by **, store manager (male) and receptionist (male).
Bad Customer Service
My local club got bought out and I went in to get transferred over. I was treated like a outcast by the front desk staff. When I asked to speak to the manager, a man named ** came out and was very rude. He first said he could help me and said I had to take my complaints up with my former club that was going out of business. When I asked to speak to his superior, he refused and said he only reports to the owner and his contact information is not available. LA Fitness need to hire more professional, competent, and courtesy people to provide an inviting and friendly first impression for new and confused customers.
Rubbish Company! Avoid!
I signed up with LA fitness in Sep 2011. I unfortunately lost my job in November 2011 and continued to pay the gym until April when I could no longer afford and got in touch with them. After many, many, MANY letters, phone calls and emails my issue has still not being resolved even when doing what they asked to cancel my membership. They continuously send me threatening letters about owing money and I am overall disgusted with the way I have been treated and made to feel like a rubbish! Please be aware people to not join this gym, don’t fall for their fake smiles. My issue is still ongoing and I don’t want anyone to have to put up with what I have with them.
Customer Service
I have been a member with LA Fitness since 2012, paid my membership on time regardless of my gym attendance. Unfortunately fell into some hard times in the last 3 months, called LA fitness to pay for lost time (Balance was 60.00 without late fees) after 4 years of non-late payments. Paid 32.00 out of the 60.00 to ensure the reinstatement of my monthly dues and considering I have been loyal to the company and fulfilled my contract, I would think that they would extend a first time courtesy and allow me to continue with the membership or start a new membership with the same monthly payments, but they declined.
The agent made it seem like losing my business was no big deal, that the system is what it is? That makes no sense, why would a business prefer to lose more years of business for a 32.00 balance, in which I was willing to pay for to continue with the membership? I even expressed to the associate, that this negative review would take place and it didn’t even matter to her. She didn’t even offer an opportunity to speak with her leaders to see if something could be resolved. She just kept saying that “The system doesn’t allow me.” Where is the customer service and the loyalty to the loyal customers? I called 949-255-7200 at 8:14 pm on 11/29.
Difficult To Cancel And Lied About Reasons Over Phone
I called in to cancel my membership, and I was told it could not be done due to ID protection. They had trouble with kids or others canceling a membership. You can only cancel from 9 am to 5 pm, and it must be in person. You will also be paying/prepaid month ahead of when you are canceling. I was able to cancel in person with only my keycard and no other ID. There is no reason it can’t be done over the phone. I might have rejoined at a later date, but this is the second worst customer service I have ever had. I consider preventing something being done over the phone for customer retention only unethical business and a waste of time.
Horrible Service
I am very upset about how LA Fitness is treating us by discriminating us. They simply canceled our membership saying our kids are crying in the kids club without any notice. They have been very hard and talking very rude from the day we joined the club. They started talking badly in front of other customers. Personal trainers threaten you to join the personal training program.
Bad Experience With Personal Training Practices
As a gym, it is great. However, the Personal Training (PT) program is full of deception, deceit, bait & switch, & trying to extort more money out of you to keep your same trainer. Am super irked by PT. Had 3 major issues since Dec. Initially bought 4 sessions at a high rate per session + an Initiation Fee. Was told I could buy more sessions later & the rate per session would be dependent upon the # of sessions I bought & wouldn’t have to pay the Init Fee again. LIES told by Ron to make the sale.
Went to buy more sessions in Jan at a lesser rate per sesh. They said “nope, would be at your initial rate even if you bought 100 sessions.” To get a lower per sesh rate, had to pay Init Fee again & buy X # of sessions per month for a year. Discussed w/ HQ & Regional Manager (took a month & multiple contacts to hear from him) in Feb by phone on a Fri.
Had Chris ** as my only trainer in Dec. Fri night signed a year contract w/ Baracka & set up session w/ Chris ** for next morning. Sat after sesh, went upstairs to see Baracka to schedule next sesh w/ Chris ** & was told his last day at Co is in 2 days. WTF? No one thought to mention this to me before I signed the contract? The regional manager didn’t know? Baracka didn’t know? And Chris ** didn’t even have the decency to tell me in person during our sesh? Now I am locked into a year & have to start over w/ another trainer? Felt deceived & ripped off a 2nd time.
I train for BMX racing. It is super competitive & am trying to compete at the National level. It is not like I am just a once in a while gym goer or trying to lose weight. This is serious business to me. I had lower back issues during most of 2014 & was why I only wanted 4 sessions initially to try it out. I wasn’t even sure I could work out all year. Doctor had recommended I get a PT to help me with back issues.
I had to begin all over again & explain everything now w/ Thuan as my new trainer? I wasn’t sure he understood my goals/needs for the first month or that we were on the same page. It worked out well & I saw improvement. However, I went to schedule a session w/ him in Sept & the system said I couldn’t as I didn’t have a Master Trainer (MT) plan. LA Fitness made him a MT. To stay w/ him I have to pay more $ or find a new PT. WTF again? This is the 3rd issue w/ PT now in 7 months. And would be my 3rd “personal” trainer. HQ said my contract didn’t specify a specific trainer.
I could talk to Ron (NOT – since I think of him as a liar and can’t stand him) to pick a new trainer or pay more for the same trainer since Thuan is now classified as a MT. They gave me the # for the Springfield LA Fitness Manager. Had to call twice to reach him as he never returned my call when I left a msg. He said same – pick a new trainer or pay more $ to stay w/ Thuan, my trainer of 7 months.
To me, a “personal” trainer is like a doctor. Someone new just can’t step in & take over. Nor did I want to have to explain everything & begin w/ someone new again. I thought it was BS I had to pay more $ to keep my trainer when I had a year contract at a specified rate per month.
I asked Baracka what if I pay for MT & then Thuan leaves like Chris **? He said I would be locked into the higher rate & would then have to choose a new MT. I asked who, given my situation re BMX racing & lower back, which he was aware of & knew who I was, would be a good PT instead of Thuan as I didn’t think I should have to pay more $. He told me Kevin ** would be the best fit for me.
Had my session w/ Kevin ** on Monday this week. He is basically brand new to the company; it was only his 3rd week there, or I was his 3rd training session. I can’t remember which. But he didn’t know what BMX was or how to train someone for it. Baracka essentially deceived me too. He was NOT picking the best personal trainer for me & my situation. He was basically sticking me w/ the “new” guy.
3 issues w/ a gym in 7 months for a 30 year member is ridiculous. I am completely disappointed & frustrated by the whole PT situation. Apparently the MT switch to try to get more money out of someone is a common practice by LA Fitness as I have seen articles on the net now concerning this at other locations. What a rotten stinking business practice for something that is supposed to be “personal”.
Personal Training Scam
Joined the La Fitness at 8502 Cooper Creek Blvd, University Park FL, 34201. I signed up for a monthly membership at $34.95 on Set 30, 2015. The manager I was working with was named **. ** stated it was a month to month contract and that I could cancel any month that I wanted. ** then asked if I was interested in signing up for personal training. I stated “yes”. ** stated it was $360.00 for 1 month of personal training that consisted of 8 sessions. I stated to ** that I would try it for 1 month. ** then asked me for my debit/credit card. I gave it to ** and he charged me $360.00 for 1 month of personal training.
On November 5, 2015 ** called me and stated he needed my credit card number again to charge me $360.00 for personal training. I gave it to him. After getting off the phone I remember that I paid ** in full and wondered why he was charging me again. I called back ** and asked him why he was charging me again and he stated “the new $360.00 charge is for the new month.” I stated that “I already paid you when I signed up” and he stated “you signed up for 52 weeks.” I said “no I didn’t.” He said “Yes you did.” I said “you verbally told me it was for a month.”
While talking to ** I remembered that he never gave me a copy of the personal training contract. He said “I will get it to you later.” I have searched the internet and see that this is a common practice at La Fitness to scam people into signing up for a year of personal training when they think they are signing up for a month.
Personal Training Ripoff
I signed up for a year of personal training. The second week I had to 2 sessions booked, so of course I plan my schedule around them… I showed up… no trainer. I started asking around at the gym about the program and was told some frightening things:
Many of the trainers are not certified & you don’t really know what their education is.
The trainers come & go and you may have great difficulty getting scheduled.
When I tried to cancel I was told I would have a $800.00 penalty??? REALLY!! After they breached the contract & wasted my time! I wish to God I had read the 1,000 plus bad reviews about LA Fitness 1st. I’m done with them! Lots of other gyms.
Training Scams
I joined LA Fitness last week. I was told if I did a 7 day trial that the costs would go up when I walked in the door. I asked to take one class and they let me. Then I was told I had to go learn how to use the machines and that was a scam!!! They did three wimpy exercises which I already knew. Then they spent the rest of the time giving me a sales pitch about options for training.
They want you to commit to a year package. Then they told me it would be $50 for a 25 minute session! That probably is maybe twenty minutes max of working out when you consider rest between reps and walking to and from machines. That is insane!!! Then they tell me that I have to do this today or the prices will go up. I said NO!!! They said if I don’t do it today, I probably won’t and that is true because you would have time to think through the scam! These people are about money. I wonder what I will get a sales pitch on next!!! Be cautious.

Third Party Contracts
My personal training contract ended with L A fitness in Jan 2012. I checked with them in January and February, the customer service person told me that the canceling of the service was done. I did not get a charge in January or February but in March I got charged over 1,000 dollars for three months – they said that I did cancel correctly, but they charged me for two months because of this. They use a third party vendor to process their accounts and the third party vendor gave them my updated debit card number.
As a result they sent all three months of these transactions through. Their back is I did not submit a written notice to cancel. The customer service person that told me it was taken care of, did not have the authority to cancel it. They obtained information from a third party to send transactions against.
I had no idea that any outside person could give information as personal as your credit card number etc. No wonder vendors are making a money off consumers for security protection we certainly have no protection from the business community. What a joke on the consumers! Everyone is coming to the party to rip off the consumer’s life and privacy!
Buyer beware!
Buyer Beware – Horrible experience!! It is probably the most unethical fitness facility. We became members and the sales agents signed us up for personal training sessions which we found we could never use because one most of the trainers are not well trained themselves and two the ones who are trained are never available. The sales agent told me we could cancel at any time which I found when we went to cancel is untrue because they suddenly show you the fine print which says to cancel you owe them 50% of the balance – something they never tell you when they make you sign up.
They have no customer service and are most unprofessional. Makes one wonder what the health of American business is today.
Personal Training Nightmare
I got duped into signing a crazy long and expensive personal training contract that was for half the amount of time that I was told! It is impossible to get a hold of anybody in charge and your complaints and requests are repeatedly ignored. SO unprofessional, dirty facility, rude front desk staff. All around horror story – stay away!!!
