I clikced on a link trying to watch Downton Abbey and my Safari locked up and wouldn’t allow the Mac to do anything. It gave a box on the screen andsaid Severe Security ALert and to call a specific number for Safari help. The person was Asian of some sort and I had a terrible time understanding him. He polly’d onto my computer and said that it had been hacked and put me in touch with Tech Care Live, who was “Apple certified”; she was also Asian. When I say “put me in touch” they supposedly transferred me to them. An Asian lady came on the phone and got into my computer and tolf=d me I had been hacked and placed 2 malware clean-up icons on my desktop. Said to run them once a month. Would also keep ads from popping up on my PC. I called Apple today (the next day) and they had never heard of them. He said that does not mean tyhey don’t exist but he htinks they are a company that scares you into believeing your PC has been hacked and sells you malware protection. $199.99. We took everything off the PC that they had placed on it, as well as putting a virus scanner on it.
