The Group Music Agency

I am the manager of an unsigned hiphop artist named EdotFlo, or “Flo” for short. While Flo was on Twitter last week, @anrservice1 sent him a DM asking how they could help him. He asked what they did and they told him that they could get him an interview with an A&R representative for $850.00 USD, radio rotation with Clear Channel for $500.00 – $1500.00 USD, or he could be the opening act for the Eminem/Rihanna ‘Monster Tour’ in August for $2100.00. When he decided that he wanted to tour, the “agency” sent an artist agreement that seemed to be legitimate, but when I did some research I found that the addresses in the contract were not checking out when I would search Google. When I asked “Brandon” – the talent agent, or so he said, he explained that he was unaware of any addresses, but he knew the company was legitimate or he would not be working there. He went on to explain to me that Kevin Law was actually the owner – the same Kevin Law that signed Nelly. Brandon then started talking money. He said that for Flo to tour for the month it would cost $2100.00 USD and that money would cover airfare, hotel, and ground transportation. When I asked who the check should be made out to, I was told that it would be done through a “cash, in branch deposit ONLY.” I was given the banking information to a Wells Fargo personal account. I called WF and the lady advised me to be “very leery” and that “Flo would probably not see his money if he gave it to them.” Finally, in a last ditch effort to really think Flo was about to take off into hiphop stardom, I contacted Mr. Kevin Law’s office in New York. This IS NOT his agency and it is a SCAM! If you are an artist, underground, mainstream, chart topper, etc., YOU get paid to tour, you do not pay. Just a heads up. I am just glad my client did not jump in head first and consulted his team. Trust your managers and attorney’s. That’s what we are here for!
