A TripMate claim starts with the assumption that I am a liar and trying to extort money from them. Good luck! I spent over 46 hours of my life I will never get back in trying to complete their complicated, ridiculous claim process. Ten of us went on a Viking cruise of a lifetime with our mother who was turning 80 during the trip. We bought the travel insurance. We thought we were covered when our trip started out delayed in Atlanta due to storms. Missed our connection to London, an extra 2 days we added to our trip then on to Paris for a river cruise. The extra 2 days was a “deviation” by Viking terms and was therefore “not covered”. We lost over $1000/couple for hotel, transfers, and train from London to Paris. If you call TripMate prepare to wait for upwards of 20-30 minutes or if you leave a message for them to call you back (within 24 hours) and you’re not available you have to start all over. Prepare to send in ALL your documentation, then resend and possibly re-resend a third time. Oh and each time you resend something, they restart the 30 day review for processing your claim. We sent in documentation for over $1600/couple for what we lost by not going to London plus the added expenses of an unplanned stay in Atlanta and trying to get to Paris. After 90 days they only paid $168/couple. Their business practices are very deceptive and unethical at the least. We were led to believe that our entire trip was covered by their exorbitant insurance premium. I honestly think they make the process so complex so you will just give up and say it’s not worth it. Customer service and customer satisfaction are obviously not part of their vision statement or any guiding principles of their business. Bottom line: DO NOT use TripMate!

Although I love traveling with Overseas Adventure Travel, they use a company called Tripmate.com for travel insurance. Tripmate is a truly evil company, I purchased their cancel for any reason trip insurance via the Overseas Adventure Travel website. I was diagnosed with throat cancer a month after purchasing the trip and insurance and contacted OAT and Tripmate to cancel the trip and request the refund. During the time of the trip, I underwent 7 weeks of Chemo and Radiation therapy. For anyone that has gone through or knows of someone that has gone through this for throat cancer it”s incredibly painful and exhausting. Obviously it would have been impossible and life threatening for me to have gone on the trip. After over 5 months of stalling Tripmate denied my claim due to “Unable to document a sickness that commenced while your cancellation penalty waiver was in effect”. It appears this fraudulent company does not consider cancer to be a sickness. Do not ever under any circumstance give this company a penny, you will have to chase them for weeks/months and then they will find any loophole not to pay out. I”m very disappointed that a class company such as OAT would point their customers towards this company via the OAT website. I”m currently out over $8, 500.00 – despicable.

Bought trip insurance for our son”s Link Year (Christian organization), trip to Ireland, last year. We are still dealing with them almost 1 year later and they give you the run around, need more information, bla, bla, bla. Once they got all the info now they claim that the whole trip was $3500 but only inured $1500, so everything is null and void.. Very interesting that everything is good when they are taking your money but once is time to pay, they don”t. Stay far away from this company, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! . This is the only way to hurt them, not to buy their product.

Dear TripMate: On May 5th, 2019 at 3:16pm I purchased your travel insurance as part of a reservation with Atlantis Paradise.com. Not one hour later on same day at 4:10pm i cancelled my reservation. It was then that i was informed your travel insurance was non-refundable. I was vascillating whether or not to purchase the travel insurance with the agent i was placing the reservation with (Charmaine?) and she never once shared the information that it would be non-refundable. When i brought that non provided info to the attention of the agent who took my cancellation request she pretty much said it ddnt matter and “everyone knows” travel insurance is non-refundable. well, as a 70 year old woman who’s experience in travelling is deminimus…i sure as heck ddnt know! So, I’m requesting a refund. I cant believe you dont have a “cool down” period of at least 3 days like any other contract. Please advise. Thankyou in advance for your efforts on my behalf. vty, thomas s. dubowik conf#KP5NmOoJIAj37943 booking #3003377 credit card: #8123 Barclay
Trip Mate Reviews & Complaints
I booked a trip through Grand Circle Travel on June 17th, 2008. Because of my mother’s physical problem we had to cancel on Aug 7, 2008. A Grand Circle phone rep told me what my refund would be which was minus the insurance premiums for both our trip costs. I completed all Trip Mate’s documents as did my mother’s doctor who check marked that she was disabled and could not travel. Trip Mate has been jerking me around ever since insisting that she was not covered – OH YES SHE WAS! Then they said they needed more information from the doctor. The doctor AGAIN wrote a letter saying she was not able to travel. Trip Mate sent us vouchers instead of a refund. This is NOT what I was told by Grand Circle when I booked the trip and when I cancelled. When I booked the trip a Grand Circle rep told me “buy the insurance and then if something happens you won’t lose all your money.” I am astonished that a company like Grand Circle would align itself with Trip Mate. They have had 74 complaints filed with the Kansas City, Mo, Better Business Bureau in the last 36 months, mine is the 75th, and 9 complaints filed with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, mine will be the 10th. This has been very upsetting to my mother who’s 83. She was in fine health when we booked, she’s taken 4 trips with Grand Circle, I’ve taken 3 with them and we’ve never had a problem until now. Any future trips are in doubt if they continue with this insurance company. Delaying tactics seem to be their game.

I booked my honeymoon and we purchased the travel insurance as a backup in case something happened. We departed for our flight and I became extremely Ill on the plane so we were unable to reach our destination. Trip mate denied our claim and when I call in to try and resolve the issue they tell me that they can’t tell me how to resolve it that I just need to do what I feel would be best to resolve it. I have called in multiple times and every single time my husband or I call in they give us a different reason why it was denied. They are extremely rude and unhelpful. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

I had a flight from Denver to Az July 7, 2015 for orientation to a new job. I had just moved 9, 000 ft up from Florida to Woodland Park, Co, and starting having breathing and vertigo issues. I had flight insurance put on, just in case. The company in AZ refused to pay my hotel as promised, and I wasnt” well anyway, so I cancelled my orientation, and went to a Dr. who declared me disabled. I have prexisting conditions, doesn” t everyone? But they refused reimbursing me, I cancelled weeks in advance. Suddenly Trip Mate thinks they are Dr.s ? Any class action law suits and I am IN !!! WHAT RIP OFFS…

I had put in a request for a claim on August 4th, because my wife was serious ill, from a mental condition, and her psychiatrist wrote a letter informing Trip mate, and the airline, that she was very sick, and I couldn’t leave her to travel for at least 2 months. After I filed the requested documentation, and told it would take 2 – 3 weeks to process, I waited over 2 months to get a decision on it. I had called numerous times, and was always told that “they were busy, but would expedite your complaint”. Finally, I requested to speak with a Supervisor. She called the very next day to inform me that the claim had been rejected because my wife had a mental illness, and was not in the hospital at the time. My wife died 3 days later. When I informed the supervisor about this, she asked me to fax a death certificate, which I did immediately. When I called today to see where in process this was, I never received a call back. Ironically, the other ticket that I had purchased for my wife, with no travel insurance on it. After filling out paperwork and sending the same information as I had sent to Trip Mate, the airlines refunded my money within a week. It feels like this has been a scam, avoiding to take responsibility by Tripmate, and refunding my money. Please help. This is ridiculous. I am out over $1600. It is clear that if I never took out the travel insurance, I would have had my refund from the airline within a week. HELP!!!

I had to cancel a trip that I booked through Globus and also purchased a Travel Protection Plan from Trip Mate through Globus’ prodding. I cancelled the trip for medical reasons. When I submitted a claim for refund my claim was denied even though I met all the requirements that they asked on the claim forms they sent me. Trip Mate informed me that Globus will send me a travel voucher instead of cash for rejecting my claim for a cash refund. I was supposed to receive the travel voucher in the mail from 5-7 business days from the date when they rejected my claim which was June 14, 2010. On June 28, 2010, I called Globus to follow up since I have not received the voucher as promised. A very rude and arrogant service representative named Monica (they never give last names) told me that TripMate was supposed to send me the voucher. I told her that James (no last name)from Trip Mate told me Globus was to send the voucher. After putting me on perpetual hold, Monica told me the voucher was issued on June 16, 2010. By whom (Globus or Trip Mate?)was not clear, just that it was issued. Arrogant Monica would not clarify. What is clear though, is that it is now July 10, 2010 and still no travel voucher in my mail. Lesson learned, is I’ve been had. Scammed by Globus/Trip Mate. Consumers should be very careful when booking travel. This is a clear example of scammers out there ripping people off their hard-earned cash.

I have bought travel insurancve through this company many times, never used it, till july when we went to Peru. I bought the insurance policy in 2008 along with the tickets etc. I injured my ankle in march 2009, I was advised not to do the Inca trail. My travel agent said that since I have insurance I will get my refund for that portion of the trip. They just sent me a denial saying that injury happened before travel, so trip interruption insurance will not cover it. This is for about $450. This catch is apparently not known to even the agents who sell these policies. Please let this be known to every one.
Trip Mate Reviews & Complaints
I purchased a trip along with flights with Sandals/Beaches resort along with Trip Mate insurance. A medical condition arose and I had a Dr’s written order to cancel the trip and they still denied the claim. Here is a copy of the appeal letter sent.May 16, 2008 Dear Trip Mate; I am writing this appeal letter to try and better explain my situation and why I had to cancel our vacation plans. I first saw Dr. Altman the beginning of January for my pregnancy and he stated it was high risk due to the pregnancy with my first child being difficult. He then stated we would treat this as a normal pregnancy and I should treat it as much. He said it was ok to go the Sandals resort in Jamaica, so I booked it. I was told my two different employees at Sandals resort that if I booked the flights with the Sandals Company that they would be refunded along with any payments made. I made sure of this twice. In February, I started having stomach pain and cramping, which was discussed with Dr Altman, who stated it was too early in the pregnancy for treatment. The medication did not work until you were 20 weeks along. By the end of February, we decided that it was not best to go out of the country in case of complications. Therefore, I cancelled the trip. I was then advised that the flights I was told would be refunded would not be. I purchased the travel insurance for this purpose, in case things made a turn from a normal pregnancy to the same indications that it was following my first pregnancy, as they did in February. In March, I started having contractions and at 20 weeks, Dr Altman then prescribed the medication needed. I am not trying to take advantage of this situation; I just want you to understand the events that took place. When I read the travel insurance policy, it stated for any medical reason by one of the travelers. I just want what was told to me was owed form the beginning. I feel that between Sandals and Trip Mate I was misled. I could have waited until March to cancel by any means, but I wanted someone else to enjoy the beautiful trip. I am asking that you reconsider this claim. I feel I have been misled and I do, did have a medical condition that limits me from leaving the United States. While it took you an over a month to decide, I called your company to see the progress of the claim because my husband needed to take a flight. He could have used the ticket that was purchased in January to go towards his trip, but was advised by your company not to. Therefore, he purchased another plane ticket. At least we could have used a portion of what we have lost then. I would like to think that a doctors order would be enough to persuade your answer.
Trip Mate Reviews & Complaints
I purchased trip insurance with Trip Mate. We were in a car accident in St. Lucia, and when I called to report the accident I had to leave a message. They did not call me back, and when I got in touch with them stated, “we don’t make phone calls outside the US, ” as the reason for not calling me back! Now I have filed multiple claims with them, multiple times, and have waited for over a month to receive an answer regarding my medical claims. When I call them, I am told, “it is in the final stages of review.” That is NOT helpful! I have paid a lot of money for medical services out of pocket and was expecting to receive the money back, due to the way the policy was written, as well as the fact that some of my medical bills have been paid. I need answers, and payment of my medical bills. I would recommend that people are WARNED not to use Trip Mate insurance if they expect money for trip interruption, medical expenses, or any kind of decent customer service.
Trip Mate Reviews & Complaints
-I submitted all my documents on Nov. 22, 2018 -They love to say “Goal processing time is 30 days” but they know it will take longer -TripMate keeps pushing date back with new random documents needed from the airline which they get within 12 hours of request (which they can then claim they restart the 30 days of processing) -Try to call for updates but keep getting waitlisted or put on callback list (all automated, never can get a human on the line initially) -Callbacks take 24 hours before they actually return calls (if they even return it) -I finally get an echeck with a partial refund in March 2019. Summary: Do not use this company!!! Its a scam! No customer service! They just wait to see how long they can drag you along before you give up

I too purchased TripMate insurance thinking that if anything happens I will be covered. My mother got sick and was in intensive care on June 10th. I called the travel agent and cancelled my trip on June 12th thinking that my mother was going to need some care after she was released form the hospital.Well she passed away on June 14th. As if this was not devestating enough! I filed a claim with the insurance company. I sent in the information they requested from the Dr treating my mother, a copy of her obituary, the itemized statement from the furneral home, a copy of her death certificate, a copy of the PAID IN FULL $5300)receipt from the travel agent. What more could they ask for.I received some postcards for tripmate stating they are working on my claim. When I opened the letter I nearly passed out on the floor! They sent me $1000.00 for all 4 persons traveling. Don”t get me wrong I was not expecting my full $5300 refunded but come on. They said it was due to “travel supplier refund” what ever that means is why my refund was so low. I asked if I had the customary 1 year time frame to use the already paid for airline tickets no one could answer that. What was the purpose in getting this insurance if you don’t get your money back? I am looking for a lawyer to investigate this case. I think its time for a class action lawsuit! When you google TRIP MATE there are hundreds of pages of complaints on this terrible company. Can anyone give me some insights on how to handle this case? ([protected]@cox.net)

I too purchased TripMate insurance thinking that if anything happens I will be covered. The roundtrip ticket was bought with CheapOair from Caracas to Los Angeles (Via Panama), with COPA Airline, from August 2 to 30, 2018 on Tue, Feb 27, 2018, for $1276 .51. I paid Travel Protection Plan Cost (TripMate) for $82 .95, in case of any odds. On April 2018 the Venezuela government decided to cancel all flights to Panama due to political disagreements ( See: www.reuters.com/article/us-venezuela-panama/venezuela-halts-commercial-ties-with-panama-suspends-copa-flights-idUSKCN1HC2UA ) As passengers, we feel that we are in the mercy of all these diplomatic/political odds occurring worldwide. I purchased a traveling protection plan, with that purpose, to protect my trip from anything. I submitted my claim to TripMate on 2018/04/11 17:55:54 and until today, I have no hear from them. I need my money to figure out what I am going to do, because of the current critical and devastating situation in Venezuela. I sent TripMate copy of the booking ticket and the Panama Embassy and Copa Airline Information. Until today May 16, 2018, I have not heard from them. What was the purpose of getting this insurance if you don”t get your money back? I am starting looking for a lawyer to investigate this case. I think its time for a class action lawsuit! When you google TRIP MATE there are hundreds of pages of complaints on this terrible company. Can anyone give me some insights on how to handle this case? ([protected]@gmail.com)
