Here are the complaint and facts: 1. Teaser rates of $10 month only for first 3 months then the rate jumps to $35 a month. The rate after the teaser was not explained or stressed up front. 2. Trial period is shorter than the teaser period–the trial is 45 days but this is not explained and stressed up front. The sound is terrible and servicing it takes a long time because service is slow, there are long waits and they keep pointing fingers– Vonage blames your internet service and the internet service blames Vonage. 3. When I tried to cancel after the 45 days, they charge a $100 cancellation fee because they said it was for a one year contract. Contracts should be against the law. Period. This is an extortion tactic and should be stopped. 4. They don’t allow cancellations online– only over the phone. 5. They only allow auto withdrawals via credit card or bank account. They should allow billing and payments by check. I hate it when companies glom on to your banking information and continue to pull out money even after cancellation. Then trying to get your money back is impossible. I want more control over my paying options for situations just like this when I am unhappy with the quality and service but trying to get rid of them results in extortion-like tactics. After all that, I barely ever use their service. If you look at the usage history during the 3-4 months I have had them, usage is usually zero. Why would I keep a subscription I am not using and why would I have to pay a cancellation fee when the product and service is bad? .

After being a customer for 13 months, signing no contract them trying many times to have my service disconnected they send another withdrawal to my bank account for early ternimation. PLEASE be aware they are someone you DO NOT want to have access to your banking information, The only way I could stop them was to change my bank account. What a scam! I am not done complaining! Not sure who will listen, but PLEASE watch this company. I feel violated!
Vonage Holdings Corporation Reviews & Complaints
After having Vonage for over 1 year I decided to cancel 01/13/2009, after being put on hold three times and given the run-around then an offer to stay with Vonage for 19.99 per month I refused and insisted they cancel the service. The rep was incredibly rude and told me I would have to pay 44.47 in cancel fees, I asked her if she is OK, she obviously was deluded. I was a Vonage customer for over 1 year so cancel fees did not apply, per the agreement when I signed up in 2007, after yelling at me to read my agreement; I continued to insist I had a 1yr no fee cancellation agreement. They eventually canceled the service after over 20 minutes of insisting that they cancel, I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO VONAGE OR RECOMMEND VONAGE PHONE SERVICE to anyone and will tell everyone I meet looking for a phone service, my friends who signed up on my recommendation is also leaving, spread the word the VONAGE PHONE SERVICE is a big scam and will no honor their agreements. My bank will deal with idiots like Vonage and their fraudulent billing practices. I phoned back to complain and nothing was done my account was immediately billed the cancel fees. Let them fight with my bank over this unauthorized billing.

After many problems with vonage i decided to take my number to another company. while in the process of porting the number Vonage disconnected my service to stop this from happening. I called them since i still had almost a month paid left on my service and they said they cannot connect my number back but that i have 30 days to connect it again. So basically i had 30 days to connect the number again and they cannot do it just 2 days after they disconnected my service vonage is a dishonest company be really careful when dealing with them.

Beware Vonage unlimited is not an unlimited if the usage goes beyond 3000 minutes they are sending emails and customer support calls you to change to powerplan Email below: Account Number: ************* Dear ****************, We appreciate your business and thank you for using Vonage for your phone service. In order to provide the best value to all our customers, we track usage of Vonage residential calling plans. At the time of signup, you agreed to the Vonage Terms of Service (TOS), which includes usage guidelines for normal residential use. If you would like to review the usage guidelines, please see sections 5 and 10 of the TOS. We have observed usage on your account, ***********, which is not consistent with normal residential use. Specifically, your account shows irregular patterns of use and/or international-minute usage that is more than twice that of our heaviest users. At this time, you can remain on your current plan, but your usage will need to be changed to fall within normal residential use guidelines; this usage would generally not exceed 3, 000 international minutes per month. As another option, you can switch to a different calling plan, or you can disconnect your service without penalty. For additional information about your options please respond to this email and one of our associates will be glad to assist you. Regards, Vonage Customer Service 101

Chronology: August 29th number was ported from ATT to Vonange to activate their service. It only took them 2 days to port the number. However, After 1 week ATT dropped DSL service. When that was done, I had no dial tune, no landline, could not make outgoing calls, and incoming calls were getting redirected to Vonage service and message were being left on my computer. I contacted ATT and was told my DSL line was dropped. So, without DSL I couldn’t use Vonage, and, in addition, I no longer had security service for my home because I had no dial tone, no landline, which my security system uses. So, from September 8 until October 4th, I could not make phone calls from my home number. September 11th: I contacted Vonage to cancel my account and port my number back to ATT. I was told that if I cancelled my account before the phone number was ported back, then I’d have no phone number at all. In the meantime, I am without a live telephone line. October 2: Phone number finally ported back to ATT and I can now make calls from my home phone, through ATT service. Vonage has charged a monthly service fee and my account with them still shows “Active”. October 13: Contacted Vongage to cancel my account. Again was denied this request. Was told that if I cancelled now I would pay $80.00 in addition to $39.95. Was told to call back after October 29th to avoid being charged the $80.00. I asked if they wanted their equipment returned because it was only used for a week, and was told “No, we do not want the equipment back”. On this date I said “Okay, I will call back for the 3rd time at the end of this month to try and cancel the account.” I plan on contacting them again on October 30th to try and cancel my account again, but this time I’m going to record my conversation with them. To cancel Vonage services are being just as difficult to do as AOL’s! Company details: Vonage, 23 Main Street, Holmdel, NJ 07733 www. vonage.com

Dec. 13 I had a long conversation with someone in sales at Vonage. Included in the conversation was the fact that I have the ATT Elite High Speed Internet package. “No problem, works GREAT with Vonage.” Made the decision to transfer both phone numbers to Vonage. Dec. 17 ATT disconnected my line, but eliminated my primary service completely since my Vonage Device Motorola VT 2142 didn”t arrive until Dec. 24. My fax line was to be transferred but now is being held hostage by ATT since that secondary line is linked to my high speed internet. Without it, I am not eligible for the Elite package since it is not compatible (or so they say) with a free-standing, naked, or dry loop internet connection. GREAT… Bad information from everyone. Not until last week did I even find out that “There is a feature on you account preventing your transfer.” In trying to reduce my bills, I will either have to go to a lower 4X slower ATT DSL program or pay for an additional ATT line to support my current Elite program. This is not only going to the FCC but also on complaints.com. What a scam! CarolWesterman AT aol.com

Few items to consider before you sign up “without contract” 1. Your $24.99 plan is more like $36.99 – they (similar to the people they criticize such as ATT and Verizon) charge all the fees and taxes and forget to mention how much it is going to be. So if you are paying your phone company $40 bills for your phone service – this is exactly what you will be paying with Vonage. 2. “No Contract” means that is you cancel before the end of a full year – they will charge you $80 for the crappy device they sent you and $40 for canceling the account. After 1 year they will charge you “only” $40 to cancel. 3. Their outsourced customer service department is always a “pleasure” to deal with. Similar to what Dell was before they moved some of their reps to US. You feel like you are talking to a robot that keeps repeating the same sentence no matter what you ask them. All in all – no different from any other telco – so the question is WHY GO THRU THE TROUBLE OF SWITCHING? Let’s recap – same price, same features, same crappy customer service, contract or I guess a virtual contract…hmmm…

Firstly I would let you know that I have been with you since your initiation. I have family in the UK, one of whom is in the hospital, and cannot get through. For years I’ve heard complaints about that mickey mouse company. On June 4, 2011, I rec’d a wonderful offer in the mail, so wonderful that I got suspicious so I decided to check with this Board and sure enough, my instinct served me well. My advice to all of you is to: 1) Report them to the BBB in your area, you can file the complaint online. 2) Report them to the FCC. 3) Talk to an attorney, or check with Legal Aid in your city. 4) Sue them in Small Claims in your city, it’s easy, you can get all the info. online. 5) Save all correspondence, bills, cancelled checks, etc. you will need them as proof when you take them to court. 6) Don’t be intimidated by Vonage or anyone else. Small Claims are there to protect us, the little people. They are informal, quick, and to the point. 6) Don’t forget to include the filing fee and the process server, the certified, return receipt requested cost in your Complaint so that you get all your money back. I bet that Vonage will not show up anyway.

Gave a 1 year “reduced charge” for service. When the 1 year was up, without notification, doubled the charge for service to $34. When I called to cancel the account, was told cannot refund the charge. If you are going to use this company, make sure you keep track of the year and call before the billing date, otherwise the same thing is going to happen to you. Better yet, find another provider who is not as greedy.

Good luck, I’ve contacted the rebate team like 10 times still haven’t received it even though they say they sent it. Now it’s been over 18 months still nothing. this company is a joke. they just try to hook customers and then never send rebate. I just receive a generic response stating that my rebate was sent and to wait 15 days to receive it and it never comes. I contact customer service and they say to contact the rebate center. I contact the rebate centers email again and receive the same generic response every time. I just keep going in circles with no end in site. I try and call the rebate centers phone number and it’s just a bunch of ads with ZERO way to talk to anyone. I literally spent over an hour. you should call it and see for yourself to see [protected]. I contact vonages customer service and they say they can’t do anything and the supervisor says he can’t do anything that I need to contact the rebate center. I explain the situation to them and they just tell me the same thing that they can’t help me. Someone needs to file a class action lawsuit. I’m going to send all me info to channel 8 news because I’m not they only one I’m sure this has happened too. I’m not going to let this company take advantage of anymore people.

Had Vontage 1 month and they used the we need your credit card ploy to cover shipping charges for their modem. Then did not get even 1st month free and $30.oo was deducted from my credit card again for service. I called and canceled the service the next month and was told we will give you the next month free if you decide to keep service. I declined and thought that was that. Went back to my other phone provider and even though not as good as it should be it was better then the vontage service. Then today i was checking my bank account to find out vontage has still been taking out $30 a month for the 3 months i haven’t even been using them. Called them up again and after an extensive run around asked them what was going on. They said i didn’t cancel the first time… lol I asked them how i could have 2 service providers serving my telephone line at the same time and to check their stupid records and they would see not even 1 call was made through them for 3 months. They could not give an answer. So this is over $100.oo i have had deducted from my bank account from their scam. Contacting the Florida Attorney general to wage a complaint also!

I agreed to try Vonage phone service, with the understanding that if I cancelled within 30 days I wouuld receive a full refund. After serveral attemps to make the device work with Qwest DSL, I cancelled the service and sent the device back; this was 14 days after placing the order. They recived the device 8 days later, still within the 30 day trial. They charged an additional $40 for not recieiving the device. Luckily a sent the device with delivery confirmation and was able to prove when they received the device. They have now admitted to reciveing the device and state that the technicians must certify the device before a refund will be granted; Vonage does not know how long that will take. As it stands after 21 since cancellation, they have not refunded the initial charge of $61.81 or the $39.99 for the device. I you try Vonage, be prepared for a fight to get a refund.

Vonage Holdings Corporation Reviews & Complaints
I am appalled by the treatment of my mother, who is a senior citizen in Long Island, NY by the phone company, VONAGE. She signed up for service in December, promptly cancelled service and returned the equipment, but they keep billing her monthly for service she doesn’t have. Frustrated, she called me to ask for my help. I was sure I could straighten this out, but incredibly, and just like my mother said, they actually REFUSED to cancel the service when we called them. In addition, there was no record of her calling to cancel the service prior to this phone call. I was simply stunned. I asked again and again, “Are you saying that you will not cancel service and refund this woman’s money for services she never used?” Not only did they refuse the refund, but they said they would charge her a cancellation fee and an equipment fee, for an additional 99 dollars. I begged and pleaded with the rep, who claimed she “couldn’t do anything to help”, but incredibly kept pushing to have my mother sign up for a cheaper monthly service plan. No matter what I said, this rep continued to push the plan! Exhausted, we hung up the phone and my 80 year old mom went to the bank to close her account, since it seems that is the only thing she can do to get them from charging her monthly fees. I went to the consumer affairs website and apparently, lots of other customers nationwide have experienced this same scenario. There should be a news expose on the terribly business practices of this company! People should know before they make that call to start service.

I am VERY disappointed with your online help. I received a call from your chat help, first of all what he was telling me, I could find NO where on the account. It would be very helpful if you had people that are understandable, this gentleman had a bad accent, not his fault. I would think you would like your employees to be understood by the customer, especially in such department. We finally got it, had to be on the cell phone itself, Vonage application. However I was INSULTED when he hung up on me, because I told him I”m having a hard time understanding him, due to ALL the background noise, sounded like there was a party. This on top of accent challenges, made it just about impossible to understand what he was trying to explain to me. What it actually sounded like is a boiler room where people sit for such, (sad). I would think that such noise chatter in the background is unacceptable because it reflect on the company. I can honestly say that this was the worst on line help I have ever experienced. I”ve been very satisfied with your service but this is totally unacceptable and very poor customer service! I would hope that your corporation does something about this, not a professional way of conducting business. Now to insult to injury, tried to email you 3x and even called to get an email address, [protected]@vonage.com which kept coming back as can”t deliver… what in the world is going on there??? Wonder if this will even get through… loosing confidence. Respectfully, Klaus Maserke

I am with Vonage for my phone service and my service contract ends on 11/22/2015. I paid monthly service charges until 12/08/2015. Last week i moved to a different carrier and submitted number transfer which was transferred on 11/20/2015. Vonage automatically cancelled my service when number transferred and charged early termination fee of $21.45 even thou I paid bill until 12/08. When I called them, they did not agree to refund termination fee or prorated monthly fee. How come they charge early termination when I paid until 12/08 and contract ends on 11/22.

I attempted to transfer my phone service to Vonage in good faith, and followed all of the instructions provided by Vonage. And as a result I am now out $11.00 for nothing. Very, very poor business practices indeed. Not only will I never become a customer of Vonage, the relatives and friends that I was intending to recommend your service to will never hear a whisper from me. And I intend to file complaints with all regulatory agencies available to me. All this trouble for a simple refund of $11.00. In hindsight, once my service had been canceled, the customer service representative should have initiated a paid return label for the adapter. It’s not like I have been using your service, and then decided to change plans. The fact is, I NEVER transferred my service, and could not do so without incurring additional costs. The whole reason I requested to change plans was to save money, which ultimately I could not. Do you really think it reasonable to burden a prospective customer with unforseen charges when attempting to become one of your loyal customers? You may want to revisit your marketing plan. Seems very strange to me. ******************************************************************** From: [protected]@vonage.com I understand that you wish to receive refund for the shipping charges for returning your Vonage phone adapter. I bought in to Vonage over a year ago. When we tried to adjust our billing date and was told no way… my reply was to cancel the service. We were told there would be a $200 charge if we canceled before the first year was over, so we waited. At the one year mark, I purchased a Magic Jack and told Vonage that we would no longer be requiring their services at the end of the billing cycle. They hung up on us with fifteen days left of paid service, shut down our service, and charged my bank account $42.00, which caused an overdraft fee of $35.00. Wow, insult to injury! I did successfully reverse the charges with my bank, but it took 90 days, and I had to re-dispute the fee. I have since bought another Magic Jack, which I use when I am overseas to call my wife back in the US for free. Don”t get me wrong, Vonage VOIP service was great! It was reliable, it was clear… but it was also $24.00 a month and their customer service was awful. They are also very deceptive in their business and quite honestly illegal. They claim on their website that they can change their terms of service without notification… not true, and not legal. Their sales people ($8.00/hr mall workers) lie and say anything to get you to sign up.
Vonage Holdings Corporation Reviews & Complaints
I can honestly say that Vonage service was acceptable and solid during the many years I was with them. However, I recently switched VOIP service to a much cheaper service. When I called Vonage to cancel I was given the opportunity to have my service provided for 1/3 of the cost I had been paying them for years. When I asked about this they informed me it was a “special rate” not advertised on the internet. In otherwords, if you are a loyal customer Vonage will take advantage of you for as much money as they possibly can even though they know and could provide their services for much less. In fact, the more loyal and uncomplaining one is, the more likely they will take as much from you as they can. When I cancelled I had been charged on the 6th and cancelled on the 10th. They are very adamant that the entire month I had paid for in advance could not and would not be pro-rated. While I agree that all of this is spelled out in the TOS and it is my error that I was not aware, it seems to me that most companies that care about their reputation and fairness to its customers provide a refund based on a pro-rated rate of the unused portion of service. So, beware, after several emails at different “levels” of their so called “Customer Care” (which others have so aptly put in perspective, only the customers care) Vonage would rather hold tightly to their clause in the TOS rather than provide Customer Care to a customer they had overcharged for years. No, Vonage has not done anything “illegal” and both situations I am complaining about I have equal responsibility for being taken advantage over. However, I have come to expect that major companies have a sense of rewarding long term customers and being fair in taking money for services rendered. There are so many VOIP services that are dependable and cheaper that there is absolutely no reason to open oneself up to the “legal” yet unfair TOS of Vonage.

I cancelled my Service with Vonage 5 years ago. I never gave it a second thought until they called 6 months ago to tell me I owed 2 months like $42. I refused to pay and told them I cancelled 5 years earlier. Then they said they never had any indication that I cancelled my service. I said, well I did and I still want it cancelled. I thought it was taken care of but started receiving calls from a collection agency 2 days ago. I called Vonage and they passed me around 3 times before I got to someone who would help me. She said I still owed like $42 from March but my service was now cancelled so I would not receive any more bills. I informed the lady I was recording the call too. She then said she would reduce my bill by $20 and I said ok so if I pay it the new amount of $22, am I done and I won”t receive anymore calls or bills from Vonage and she said yes and I received a confirmation and receipt. Today I received another call from the collection agency. How the heck do I now get the collection agency off my back? Do I need to get a lawyer involved?

I decided to give Vonage a try because it is cheaper. I liked the online account management. It was easy to install. That’s about it for liking it. They advertised at 24.99 but it was almost ten dollars more per month after other charges. Ok, that seems to be the norm, so I disregarded it. There were numerous small oddities in quality, but again, I disregarded it and thought it might be attributed to ther things, like maybe the integrity of my power supply, my computer, my cable modem, various wires, etc. There was a consistent echo, the time between dialing on my end and ringing on their end was occasionally really long, more times than I could count, my initial call would have to be dropped and redialed because it sounded choppy, like we were both talking through a fanblade. At times, it would go completely mute on my end, and either I would hear nothing from the person I called or they would hear nothing from me, for sometimes a half a minute at a time. There were clicks and pops consistently. And sometimes I would get a call on my cell from someone trying to call my home phone, and if I am on my home phone, didn’t get a beep or any indication like call waiting like I normally would and should, or if I wasn’t on the phone, it would ring once, or not ring at all. The only way I knew the call didn’t make it, was because the caller tried my alternate cell phone number telling me they calledmy home phone and couldn’t get through, yet I often didn’t hear it ring even when it was right next to me. It makes me wonder how many calls have been lost that I didn’t know about from people that didn’t know my cell. Clicks, pops, sporadic muting, I shouldn’t have had to deal with, but I did. But towards the end, it was all that plus repeated problems dialing out and receiving calls at all. I do not want unstable phone service. Now, in regards to customer service, I have mixed reviews about this. They were hard to understand sometimes (India from the sound, which was fine except for the few of them that had an extremely thick accent), and didn’t ever seem to understand what I wanted and continued talking over me for a script without hearing me. This was frustrating. However, if I had an error message that made the phone service inoperable, they walked me through it, frustrating commnication and all, successfully and politely. Problem is, the error messages became more and more frequent. The several times I had to call support, they fixed my problem, but the problem always came back almost immediately. Right before cancellation, for two days I had continual and changing error messages. Not only would my phone not work, but my internet would not work either. I called Vonage first. They determined it was an internet connection problem. Ok. I called my internet provider and they walked me through but couldn’t fix anything either. SO, my internet provider sent a service technician who came to my house, confirmed my internet was fine by using his laptop, but could not determine why my phone nor internet would actually work on my computer. Ok, I hooked up a seperate computer to my net modem after he left, and the net was fine just like he said. I then hooked up Vonage, and boom, their computer froze, the net stopped working, and ofcourse, the phone still didn’t work. Aha, so the problem is with Vonage after all. I called Vonage a second time with intent to cancel, but decided to walk through fixing it one more time (maybe it was a fluke, stupid me thought), and he successfully got my net and my phone working. I was happy. Until I hung up, tried to use my phone a split second later, and saw another error message and had no dialtone. And the net was out again. Aggravated, I unhooked Vonage completely, rebooted my pc, and my net worked again. So, the problem was Vonage. It was Vonage all along. I called Vonage to cancel and a thousand times I had to tell them I was to disconnect service instead of using technical support. They were determined I was going to go through technical support. I was firm and repeated over and over I wanted to disconnect. I was put on hold, transfered to another, went through the same thing, put on hold, transfered, and put through the same thing. I was informed I was going to have to pay 39.99 disconnect fee and 79.99 for the Vonage adapter. I was furious. I now owed my internet provider $25 for a service visit because the service visit was determined to have been rooted in a cause other than with their internet. And they were right. They came out to fix the net and nothing was wrong with the net. The problem was with Vonage. So I owe $25 extra to my internet service provider. Because of Vonage making me think, through their tech support, that I had a net problem. And considering my net didn’t work, well, it made sense. Problem was, Vonage was what was screwing up my net. SO I said, “I do remember the disconnect agreement, BUT you can deduct the $25 I spent because of your tech support, and I certainly will not pay for faulty equipment that I am more than willing to ship back.” She was determined I owed the bill, because she said I had used the service three months and also tech support resolved my problems. Yes, three months of overlooking minor problems and tech support temporarily fixing a problem only for it to come back almost immediately. They were tryign to say they had given me flawless service when they didn’t. I have read from other users that they will charge your card for this disconnect/adapter fee almost immediately, so my advice is to not give them a chance. If they take your money, I guarantee you will never get it back, and customer service’s “dispute resolution” is code for “Try to get your money back now” according to other users. To provide not even substandard service and think they are justified in charging for faulty equipment and fining you for disconnecting service because of them providing you with inadequate service is ridiculous. I can understand if Vonage was great service and you just decided to stop. But it’s poor service, and disconnecting is a result of poor service. Not because I have nothing better to do with my time. The agreement was I get quality phone service. They didn’t keep their end so that negates me of any responsibility on my end as far as I’m concerned. My advice is don’t get Vonage to begin with.

I don”t use my vonage phone service so I tried to cancel. All of a sudden there were all of there charges and fees that they never mentioned before. The talk about there free trial, but if you keep them your stuck with them for years. There worse than the cell phone companies. Then when you do try to talk to someone, there in India and its imposable to understand them. Avoid Vontage at all cost.

I got a phone from Vontage, I told the lady up front that I had satellite and she said that was ok. When i got the phone after messing with it for a few hours I called them and they told me if I had satellite that I wasn”t able to use the phone. I asked why the lady didn”t tell me up front the man”s reply was I am not why she did that. Well, she didn”t and they told me to hold on to the phone in the event i was moving. Well, I never moved and when i called them back to cancel after them taking 9.00 out of my account for several months. Well, when I asked for a supervisor they hung up on me. I have been on hold a total of 2 hours alone this morning. I held for 45 minutes before i even got to talk to anyone and then after 20 minutes they hung up on me. Then I started all over…

I got a Vonage phone in 2/2008. I was not told that it would be a monthly trial period. I thought that if you signed up it was just like any other phone. Well I had lots of problems with the service. No one could ever hear me. The service was so choppy and I was trying to work from home. In May, I switched to my cable company for a phone. Vonage charged me $114.89 for my last month bill. I was charged outrageous disconnection fees and I was charged for the Vonage phone adapter (which you have to pay for when you sign up). I told the Rep on the phone that I had no idea about any disconnection fees and that they could have their device back because I didn”t need it. I was told that to send the adapter back for a refund I would have to contact the corporate office to see if I was eligible for a refund!!! I could not believe that I was being charged this much money to disconnect PHONE SERVICE!!! Beware of Vonage. It is not a better way to phone for less. The service is terrible and you will get ripped off!

I had vonage in 2006 for a short time before i was told that i had to deploy to iraq. I had called and canceled the service sent all the eqiupment back and sent them a copy of my orders showing i was leaveing. They never canceled it!! So while i was in iraq i got a chance to call to find out why. Vonage tells me to call back in 3 days to cancel that they cant process it then, I tell them it will be impossible because i was deployed not that easy to get to a phone. They said no problem we will take care of it. Funny 2 years later i am still getting billed with no help at all. They owe me $771.00 and refuse to pay it to me. They even show that i called to cancel and they still refuse to pay it to me. Then they tell me that they want me to send them billing statements for 2 years to they customer care service when they have proof that i have paid them. Really awsome how well they take care of people and screw the soldiers that defend this country so they can have a business. Guess I am just S.O.L thanks alot you ###!!

I had Vonage service in 2009, and after finding no need for a home phone, I called to cancel my service. Having heard nothing from Vonage or anybody representing Vonage I assumed the matter was through. Now, in 2012, three years later, I recieve a letter from a collection agency informing me that I owe $99.67 to Vonage for unpaid services. I contacted the collection agency and was told to contact Vonage to dispute the charges. When I spoke with “customer service” at Vonage, I was informed that the account was never cancelled. I asked several times why, if they believe I owed them money, it took three years for them to contact me. They claimed that they called me (on the phone that I assumed was disconnected and was not using), and emailed me (through an old email that I had cancelled and never updated with Vonage because I assumed the account was closed). I asked why they didn”t send something through the mail and was told they “don”t do that.” They claimed that I never cancelled my service and had just made an “inquiry, ” and asked for the confirmation number. Having been three years, I told them I was unsure where the confirmation number was, and maybe if they had informed me that week, that month, or even that year, this could all have been resolved before they started ruining my credit report over a lousy $99.67. I cannot for the life of me understand Vonage”s business practices.

I have been a Vonage customer for 5 years with 2 lines. I called to cancel my service because I am giving up my land lines. After being on hold for a while, I spent a full 5 minutes explaining why I was giving up service, and fighting off sales pitches – no I do not want a lower rate, no I do not want to give up only 1 line… Several minutes later I received my confirmation e-mail thanking me for agreeing to continue my Vonage service: “We’re delighted that you’ve chosen to stay with Vonage. We’re writing to confirm the terms you discussed with our Account Management representative on 04/28/2012 to continue your service on the following plan: U.S. and Canada 750. This plan is associated with the phone number(s) listed above. As discussed, you’ll continue to be charged a monthly fee of $19.99 on the following plan: U.S. and Canada 750. Your next billing date is 05/05/2012. This was all a blatant lie. So another call to “customer service”, Another representative trying to change my mind. And finally an e-mail confirming cancellation. Now the wait to see if my credit card gets charged. Vonage is not worth the aggravation.

I have had to deal with Vonage Customer Service Reps 4 different times to try and resolve my $50 unlimited calling business line(s) charges. These reps blatantly lie to you! Every one of them has and then tells me that the previous rep’s statements were not valid and what I am currently paying is ‘what I signed up for.’ I am now paying overage charges on my unlimited calling plan due to one of the reps signing me up for it. According to them, I was told that I would now be charged overage charges and I must have agreed to them. NOT! Why would I call 4 straight month’s in a row trying to straighten out my ‘unlimited calling for $50.00 per month!’ Now that I am canceling, they are charging me cancellation charges on 4 lines, not the 2 that I am paying (2 were supposed to be free ‘virtual’ lines. How can they get away with this? Also, when you call technical support to get your phone lines to actually work, you are connected to a representative that can not speak or understand english and will not transfer you to someone who can! I have dealt with this issue 4 times as well. I would love to be involved in a Class Action Lawsuit… where do I sign up!

I have had Vonage for eleven months and up until about two months ago all was ok. Then, for no reason I have begun to have issues whereas people whom I call advise that that my voice is all choppy. I replaced my phones, cable box and router, but still the problem continues. I have called Vonage numerous times and they run tests and tell me to continue to try the service. I have advised them over and over that all my equipment has been changed which leaves me to believe the only way to fix this is for Vonage to replace my Vonage box. No matter how many times I call and no matter how many times I email them, they continue to blow me off. They continue to try to place the blame on Comcast or my phone or my modem. I have done the tests and the Vonage Device (BOX) is causing issues with up loaded data. It’s that simple. A replacement box may very well fix the problem, so why won’t they just please a customer. The box is still under the one year warn. My one year contract is up next month. If they don’t change out this Vonage Device, I intend to dump Vonage. If they can’t serive a good customer, I say screw them. I’ve had it with this company who talks a lot, but doesn’t deliver.

I inquired at vonage about international call, the agent told me that they have unlimited calls program to philippines, agent told me all the set up fees and I said I dont want the service because the fees were rediculuos, then she told me that she will waive all the charges except for the $14.00 for shp and handling then I said ok I gave her my credit card and then she said she made a mistake instead of $14.00 I will be charge $60.00 then I said NO but she said its already been charge, she gave me a customer service number but once they know that you are trying to get a refund they will put you on hold for minutes then they will transfer you to a different agent to make it short they will try everything so that you cant get your money back, then after 60 days I got another charge for the services that I dont have, I dont even have any equipment from vonage, never had any even a piece of wire, then my bank called them disputing the charges and my bank told them I intend to cancel the “service” that I never had in the first place and vonage sent me an email that they will charge me for $119.88 for cancelling the service, this people are crooks, please spread the word, they are nothing but a common thief, beware dont give them your credit cards, Its a nigthmare, worse of the worse company, what else can I do to make sure that other dont become a victim, is there any gov’t agency that can investigate this crooks?

I just cancelled vonage after a year and a half with them. I do not use my home phone and did not need it any longer. They cancelled the service and went on to explain that they would need to charge a $39.99 termination fee because I was cancelling less than 2 years. I pointed out that their terms of service of their website states that termination fees would only be charged for accounts cancelled before one year of service. They said that was only for accounts after May 2009 (although it says nothing about that in the terms of service). Ridiculous!

I opened a Vonage account ([protected]) in December 2007. I cancelled the account as of Dec. 11, 2007 and received confirmation from Vonage that the account was deactivated. I recently learned that, without my knowledge, Vonage had opened a second account at the same time ([protected].) I have been charged monthly fees for that account with no notification or bills sent to me for a whole year. When I called to complain, I had to pay to have this second, unrequested account, deactivated. I was also told I was not entitled to a refund of the year”s fees because I did not formally request them to deactivate the account. Of course I did not request it because I never knew I had that account. Is there anything that I can do to recoup that money? It was their error in opening a second account and they should have informed me of it when I cancelled the account I knew about. Thanks. Terry Karcich

I ordered vonage in April 2007. The guy told me that i would have 2 months free and billing would start on June 28, 2007. He also told me that I had a 30 day money back guarantee from the time i install my phone. The equipment was supposedly sent by DHL. I never received it. I called them and they said they would send it again bc DHL left it at the door? I never got the 2nd shipment bc they never sent it. However on May 29, they billed me 39.99 for invoice fee and then May 30 29.00 for invoice fee. I called them to cancel because it just was not working. They said i could have all my money refunded after i file a lost shipment claim with DHL, and when i called DHL they said their policy is that the shipper must file the claim and vonage knows that very well. when i looked at my bank statement later that day on line, I saw that Vonage charged me another 39.99 disconnect fee. (DISCONNECT WHAT?) I called them back and was disconnected 3 times, after waiting 10-20 minutes each time waiting to talk to a credt supervisor. When i finally got someone they said they would refund me the disconnect fee. They did that but then I called them again to fight for my money back guarantee. They refused me saying i was 1 day over the 30 days. I had an argument with the guy jonathon something or other and after HE HUNG UP ON ME, he went back and recharged me the disconnect fee. They sent my bank account to overdraft and when i called them again I spent over 3 hours on the phone with them. 1.5 hours with one guy who just repeated that he was very sorry. Then I was sent to a guy named george higgins and he told me I would not be refunded any money. I told him that their terms say 30 days from the activation of service and that the original salesperson told me no charges till june 28. and that the other girl said i would be refunded all my money if i called DHL. He said no way. I was not getting a refund. He said their terms are written on the site and the salesperson was wrong and will be coached. He also said that VONAGE’s policy doesn’t issue credit FOR NON SERVICE!!! I asked him WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? that means that you charge for no service and steal the money?!!! He did not care that they overdrew my bank account and that my rent was due. Vonage is a disgusting company and i suggest that anyone thinking about it get a can and a string, because that is worth more than being ripped off so blatantly. I wish everyone who reads this stays away.

I ordered Vonage, and never hooked it up. Called to see what I could do to get a refund. Was told I was out of the refund period by 8 days. After yelling and asking for supervisor, I was told to return the box, and I would get a full refund. I did that, and after numerous (8) calls and many hours on hold, I was told TWICE with two different confirmation numbers that I would receive a refund. This was over a period from 12/08 til today 3/6. I was told again this morning that their computer was down and would be called back when it came up to give me my refund status. I’m not holding my breath. I hope no one does any business with this company. They are located in many locations throughout the world, and are very unorganized, and I’m sure are reading from the script that says “tell the customer what they want to hear, but never give them refunds”

I purchase Vonage back in 2007. I had issues on and off with the service such as the broadband and the echoing. We tried to cancel the service in September of 2008 and were given the runaround. They went to forwarding the calls the lady I spoke to today said that it costs 4.9 cents to forward the calls to the new number. They are considered to be outgoing calls just for your future reference. I was told I had a 2 year contract but when I called then a few minutes ago to set up service I was told there is no contract. Someone is lying somewhere. I did bring this up to the supervisor I spoke to. After reading the complaints on this site I was prepared for the excuses when I asked for one. I did pay the cancelation fee. It was the best $42.69 I spent. I will be keeping my eye on my account to see if they continue to bill me. I did let the supervisor know that I would be doing so since that is a practice they seem to perform, and if they did they would be seeing me in small claims court.

I purchased a Vonage kit with phones from Walmart. When I tried to activate it on line, the only way to get the specials was t order a new adapter and wait for it to arrive. I called Vonage and they said they could do it over the phone and give me the specials. Their own representatives did not even know how to get to their activation website. They could not give me tne specials or even activate the phone. I ended up returning the kit to Wal Mart. And cancelling the service they said they could not set up. I logged over 4 hours on the phone with them, mostly with people in India with poor English.

I purchased the V-Phone from Vonage for my portable. I asked for overnight delivery and was immediately charged for the purchase price and the device was shipped. The device arrived and immediately locked up my portable. I attached it to my desktop. It immediately locked up the desktop. I called their tech support and was transferred to India where I got someone who could not speak or understand English and knew very little about the V-Phone device. I spent four (4) hours on tech support only to find out that the device was faulty out of the package. I was forced to do a presentation to the Air Force on my cell phone in a remote location with poor service because I depended on Vonage. The replacement device arrived about three (3) days later. I plugged it into my laptop, but the device could not register on the internet. I called tech support and got someone who could not speak English. I asked to be upgraded to the next tech support level. After two (2) more hours, the device registered. I went home that night to use the device to call my daughter. I could hear her, but she could not hear me. I called tech support and got someone who could not speak English and knew absolutely nothing about the product. After esclation to the next tech level, they were unable to correct the problem with the second device. I, at this time, decided I had had enough of Vonage and asked to drop the account. They said I would have to call the next morning when that department was open. I called the next morning and was immediately put on hold for fifty (50) minutes. When an attendant finally came on, I was told that there would be a deposit put on both devices and my money could not be returned. NEXT, THEY SAID THAT WOULD SEND ME AN RMA FOR EACH DEVICE. NEXT, I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE MY TIME AND MONEY TO RETURN THESE USELESS, MALFUNCTIONING DEVICES TO VONAGE!! This, simply put, is above and beyond the definition of injustice! Do not venture into the world of gross corporate incompetence and customer mistreatment that you find rampant in Vonage.

I really just wanted to let everyone know what kind of business Vonage is and how horrible their costumer service really is. I would greatly appreciate it if everyone would pass this on so everyone will know. I do not have Vonage, nor have I had Vonage since January. On May 6th I got a charge on my debit card from Vonage for $30.73. When I called Vonage the first person told me they could not help me, the second person refused to help me and when I asked to speak to a manager the man told me “if you can”t talk to me then your not going to talk to anyone”. I called back and I spoke to a woman who said she did not see any charges on my account and transferred me to another woman. This woman also told me that she did not see any charges coming out of my account for the month of May. She then proceeded to ask me for my debit card number and told me that was the only way they could find out what the charge was. I refused to give her my debit card information and she said that she could not help me, so I asked to speak to a manager. She told me that there were no managers on the floor right now and she did not know when they would be available then she again asked me for my debit card information. I hung up and called my bank and told them the situation and was told to file a fraudulent charge report, which I did. I also had to cancel my debit card so it would not happen again.

I recently called Vonage to cancel my account and found out that I would be charged $39.99 to do so. I followed up this letter. It should sum everything up nicely… This is to serve as a letter of formal dispute to Vonage Marketing LLC. I have had Vonage phone service for approximately 1 year. I chose the service to use solely as a fax line and had access to 500 minutes a month. I have paid an estimated $360 in fees for this service. However, I have only used a combined total of 149 minutes during my entire 14 months with the company. Needless to say it was in my best interest financially to cancel my account. I called on April 7, 2009 and spoke to a very pleasant customer service agent. He informed me that he would be able to cancel my account but wanted to make me aware that there would be a $39.99 fee to do so. We debated this fee for approximately 10 minutes, which only left me frustrated, in tears, and finally angry with the company. This gentleman was so familiar with the absurdness of this policy that he was able to calm me down, assure me that he knew there was no one that would waive this fee, and then provide information on how to file a formal dispute or pursue legal action. He had first hand knowledge from previous customers on how to contact the company and what the most efficient method was. I was appalled that a company could be so unethical that its own employees knew the best ways for customers to file complaints. He pointed me to a clause in the terms and conditions that reads: “8.7 Disconnection Fee (Does Not Apply to Business Plus Customers). You will be charged a disconnection fee of $39.99 per voice line if your service is disconnected, subject to state and local laws. However, if your subscription date is on or after February 1, 2007 and is disconnected after 2 years following your subscription date, the disconnection fee is waived. If your subscription date is on or before January 31, 2007, the disconnection fee is waived if your service is disconnected 1 year following your subscription date.” I mentioned that this is worded in such a way that the average consumer would read it to mean that if the account is involuntarily disconnected, such as when a bill is not paid; this clause does not state anything about voluntary cancellation of the service. He agreed that it is very misleading. I have paid your company over $350 in fees and used exactly 2% of the services that I was charged for. It is completely outrageous to charge me an additional $39.99. I am trying to make financially sound decisions in tough economic times and believe that everyone, including companies both small and large, should do the same. Honesty, fairness, and kindness should come before money in every situation. I teach at a public middle school in an inner city and stress to my students on a daily basis the idea of living a life that is worthy of respect. How will our kids ever learn that if we don’t first set the example for them? Do the right thing. Stop putting your customer service agents in a position where they have to present legal dispute options because of their company’s selfish ways. Stop charging your customers unnecessary fees just to advance yourselves. We teachers, nurses, firefighters, and community service workers work for far less than the average business person (I would know, I left a life in real estate and sales for a low paying job as a teacher) and we want nothing more than to see people live in a way that honors others. If large companies set the example, others will follow. Customers would flock to a company that sets themselves above the rest by treating their people with fairness and respect. Respect the time of your employees and your customers. Respect their money. Respect yourselves as a corporation. Do the right thing.

I recently decided to take advantage of the massive promotion Vonage has going. When I called to setup my account I was told that I have 30 days to try the service with 100% money back guarantee, additionally I was told that it would take between 4-10 days to port the number and I should receive the adapter in 2-3 days. Lastly I have 30 days to try the service and would get 100% money back if not happy. I didn’t get the adapter until the 5th day and it took them 18 days to port my number. After the number was ported to Vonage no one could call me and I couldn’t call anyone even though there was dial-tone. I call Vonage technical support multiple times to get this resolved with zero success. Within 6 days of trying the service I decided to not keep Vonage and called them to cancel the service. The support rep told me that if I don’t port the number to another carrier they would give my number away to someone else (I’ve had the number for 10 years); so I decided to call another carrier and switched my number. The new carrier took 10 days to port my number and as soon as my number ported to the new carrier Vonage reamed me with at $125.84 charge for canceling the service and charged me for the adapter for which I had already paid when I activated my account. I explained to them that it took them 18 days to port my number and zero success in solving my problems while I was with them and asked them about their money back guarantee. Their response was you ported the number past 30 days of the trial period. How does it make sense when it took them 18 days to port the number and I switched within 6 days of them taking over my number. They still refuse to refund my money. Anyone looking to get Vonage should ABSOLUTELY NOT DO IT. Their advertisements are false and a way to trap customers. They don’t tell you of the hidden charges even if you disconnect within 30 days. I don’t know how such business practices are legal and why the attorney generals don’t shut them down.

I signed up for vontage in Jan 08 and upon receiving my equipment found out that they could not use my phone number that i presently have. THey advertise that when signing up you can keep your own phone number, not the truth. I sent the equipment back in Feb, 08. Sent several emails requesting they process my cancellation, called and sent letters. They have continually taken $34.00 out of my checking monthly, I called to today requesting that they stop and their reply was this. This now August 08, so they have a total amt of $238.00 plus the $60.00 for the equipment. They all of a sudden now do not show my equipment being return, which that shouldn’t matter since I paid for it in full. Told them to check their records could see that I have not used their service, since I don’t even have a phone number to utilize it with, but their reply is if I cancelled the service they would charge me $172.00 for early disconnect fee. I requested that they stop taking the money out of my checking and they ignored my stmt not once, not twice but at least eight different times. This was a manager in their customer service department in another country besides US, so their english is horrible. I then requested to speak to the main office was given another number to call, called and the operator put me into a voice mail. The voice mail promises to return calls within four hours if they are open. So I have since contacted the attorney general, the better business bureau, and our news station. This is the most ridiculous way to do business I have ever seen, who would want to go with vontage.
